I don’t know what hoodoo Ireland have over Scotland. For some reason even when Ireland are badly out of form and Scotland are flying they turn to shite against Ireland. It’s happened the last 20 years pretty much every time. It’s odd too because in that time period Scotland have beaten great English and French teams who are far better than some of the Irish teams they lost to in the 2010s. As a Scot I’ve zero hope of a win in Dublin, even last year Ireland were god awful , we were at home looking for a first trophy since 99 and we just did nothing in that first half.
@ThunderDawg899 ай бұрын
@eoin8156 the Scots are where Ireland were a few years ago. I like Gregor, but I don't think he's the man to get them that extra mile.
@eoin81569 ай бұрын
@@ThunderDawg89agreed . I think it may also be that our pack just isn’t good enough. We have a great backline but the pack get bullied and pushed around against a strong Irish pack and leave our backs on the back foot all game . Some of the lads in the backs like duhan and kinghorn seem to go into their shell against them too , probably need a shift of tactics and as you said Gregor doesn’t seem to have that.
@ThunderDawg899 ай бұрын
@eoin8156 definitely a shift of tactics. Its all there, that Scottish back line would be terrifying if they had a better platform to start attacks with front foot ball, but the forwards still seem to be doing "old forward things", the game has moved on and 1-15 need to have decent hands and the rugby IQ to use them at the right time. Like I said, I don't think Gregor is the man that will push that, I also haven't the foggiest who the SRU could even approach.
@cheeseweasel699 ай бұрын
Great vid as always. Ireland are looking as terrifying as ever and I cant see anyone stopping them from back to back GS. This French Forward Pack may be big but, their Achilles Heel is making them run by keeping the ball in play. Yes they will have their moments of domination in every game but, the sooner their opponents can force Galthie to go to his bench, the better the odds are that they will gain a win.
@jean-pascalesparceil90089 ай бұрын
@@fawltyoldboybasil.2178 This time the bench, especially the fly half and the second row (1st and 2nd international match for them) did well for the French. Scotland dominated completely the first half time and most of the second.

I listened to the post match analyses on two Irish tv stations and a popular Irish sports podcast, and none of them got anywhere near as close to explaining what we saw as you did. So thanks a million! A lot of us didn't know what to make of Ireland's win. The margin is historic, but France were very poor, so what does it all mean...? But the breakdown you give, especially regarding France's kicking game, helps us understand how it all happened. That it was as much Ireland's impetus as it was France's collapse. So hopefully we go on go win the tournament and even get two consecutive history making Grand Slams. That would be something! Looking forward to a video, if you make one, about that crazy Wales/Scotland match! Cheers, mate.
@helenaville59399 ай бұрын
This is all the vid contains though. TV channels must present a much broader programme. I sometimes tune into the Irish channels and find the analysis top notch and pretty neutral. Lots of praise for the opponents.
@LisztyLiszt9 ай бұрын
@@helenaville5939Yeah, look, it wasn't meant to be a dig at Irish tv pundits (who are former pros with plenty of medals) but more praise for Squidge. The Irish podcast in question, Second Captains, is excellent. But it amazes me that a guy on KZbin can provide more insight than the people who have actually won the Six Nations!
@helenaville59399 ай бұрын
@@LisztyLiszt Sure, but my point was that tv channels can't go into this kind of in-depth analysis because it's too intensive and time-consuming. They have to cater for many different tastes by giving a broader view of things in one programme. Squidge gives us nothing but in-depth analysis - nothing more. Squidge even admitted himself he's having to cut down on the vids because of the time it takes to do these kinds of in-depth vids. Hope you enjoy the rest of the 6N. 👍😊
@LisztyLiszt9 ай бұрын
@@helenaville5939 Not in agreement there. There is a huge appetite for this type of analysis, even in the main stream. When Shane Horgan has the guts of an hour to describe the Ireland v France game on a podcast (Second Captains) for people who want the nuts and bolts, and doesn't mention the kicking game of France being muted after 20 minutes, tells me that he just didn't notice it, not that he did but his audience are too idiotic to understand it. The thriving community on KZbin who follow Peter Windsor (F1), Lantern Rouge (cycling), Tifo (soccer), etc. etc. and of course Squidge here, shows that there's a huge appetite for a deeper analysis but the tv networks figure that a big name personality, even if limited, will attract the masses, even if that's not what the masses actually want... That's my view anyway. Enjoy the tournament.
@helenaville59399 ай бұрын
@@LisztyLiszt Ok, but I still think you missed my point - probably because I didn't make it clearly enough. Squidge does a great job of giving detailed and in-depth analysis -- and I'm a long-time subscriber. But why do you want everyone to do the same thing and provide us with in-depth analysis? Isn't it great that there's so much variety being provided instead? The tv channels provide a broad range of content and don't get stuck into in-depth analysis. Squidge doesn't give us anything else except in-depth analysis. I think both of these producers of content are good at what they do, and I love having so many choices of different types of content. I guess I don't feel we need to criticize one type of content in order to praise another type. That's really all I'm saying. An honourable mention to Ireland being smart enough to play Karl Dickson like an absolute fiddle at the breakdown. This isn't a criticism of the ref at all, it's a nod to a team doing their homework and knowing his style of reffing. As much as Ireland play a beautiful flowing game their intelligence is something that sets them apart.
@Tellemore9 ай бұрын
Is that the same Karl Dickson who penalized Ireland eight times in a row in the 20 minute period after he gave a red card to France? At least two of those penalties he gave against Ireland were highly questionable. Not only that, but other than Willemse penalties, France conceded only six compared to Ireland’s 13 in the entire game; That Dixon? Yeah, they really had him fooled alright. Dickson rode Ireland mercilessly for some time to get the crowd back onside. How many teams put in such a decisively superior performance, but have twice as many penalties as they opposition?

A focus on a key thing or two and then other wee things connected to it is great. Obviously we all want our teams to be the ones that get the analysis but I think we trust that any really interesting features will end up somewhere. I think one of the key things that none of the other teams have been doing is planning beyond the world cup. Ireland knew the world cup would be the last time jimmy sextin pulled on the green jersey, so they bedded in other options and built for future where as everyone else was building for the world cup Ireland where building for beyond. Ireland looked like a team that was hungrier than ever with more freshness than any team I watched over the weekend. I still don't understand how you can let you general go play for the seven's team and basically let your national team sacrifice it's self just to be able to have a star face on an Olympic poster!!!!!
