There's an online save game editor that lets you place foundations. You could cover the map in like 5 minutes that way.

Until you get to fluids then the shit mk1 pump makes getting fluids up there a nightmare. In my "sky city" save I made I found I had to ramp up mk1 pumps because at vertical they for some reason lose some of the headlift they are supposed to get. Don't have the same problem with mk 2 pumps, they do 90 degree bends just fine.

@@TheRantingsofaMadman you could focus on getting it up there and into a massive elevated (2-3 foundations higher than base level) resevoir (similar to IRL oil reservoir tanks)... conglomerate of a bunch of tanks all connected top and bottom. Then disperse accordingly. As all machines are at a lower level than the resevoir so head height shouldn't be a problem after its in the resevoir

In newer versions foundations aren't full objects anymore, and I don't think they count towards the limit. Those changes are the only reason this is possible, in previous versions if you built this many foundations, the game would freeze for an increasingly long time whenever you added or removed one.

Foundations are just solid blocks that never move and all look the same, so they don't need as much flexibility as a factory machine or enemy. Think of the items on conveyor belts, and how they're not really separate objects, but more like one big special effect.

I have put foundations across the entire map as well. I just put them underneath the map so I can build any size of factories I like, all on the same level. No bridges, no terain issues, no train "elevators"/spirals. Just. One. Big. Fat. Slab. Of. Concrete. As far as the eye can see. Oh, and yes, it IS in line with the world gird and it IS as maximized as possible (red birder line is literally just centered with the "wall" of the map-wide concrete slab.

I was really disappointed by the fact that in update 8 with the lighting effects it didn't actually make the whole map dark - as well as rain still made it to the bottom. It was only able to render the first 20 or so meters underneath the foundations as having something above and then just started raining again

I am currently doing the opposite. All rails are placed on the terrain. All basic resources will eventually be produced by refineries placed on top of in-land water extractors. All miners feed train stations. All resources available by train (other than those with 500 items per slot). All intermediate crafting done by separate vertical manifolds. I am playing DSP in Satisfactory. I spent 3 weeks placing water extractors and rails and I'm about 20% done. Someone help me.
