I am glad that you FINALLY made a video about Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog, because I have been waiting a long time for this video from you. I haven't seen much of SatAM and I haven't seen Prime at all (yet) and I've seen all of the other Sonic animated shows as well as that animated Sonic movie that has Metal Sonic in it and, in my opinion, Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog is my most favourite Sonic animated show. Happy 30th anniversary to Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog, I almost can't believe it's been that long. I always love Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog no matter what.

I remember watching this show from Blockbuster dvds and loving it. Not because of Sonic (in fact I thought Sonic was weird at the time and I somehow didn't even know he was a hedgehog when I was young), but because it was genuinely entertaining with how ridiculous and wacky it was. It actually influenced how I saw Sonic as a character: cocky and heroic like usual interpretations, but also wilder and a total trickster. Basically, even though he was designed to be an edgier version of Mickey Mouse, I always saw him as the Bugs Bunny of video games, both in role and a bit of personality.

I think it would be awesome if AOSTH and SATAM appeared in sonic prime. I would love to see the original sonic team up with SATAM sonic and the freedom fighters, and try to get around the wacky world of AOSTH sonic.

My favorite part of this show was hands down Dr. Robotnik and the S.S.S.S.S. Squad; across all Sonic media this portrayal of him just felt like the perfect balance of mad evil genius, supreme dictator, and goofy punching bag. Long John Baldry's voice was amazing, and Dr. Robotnik had so many witty and legendary lines even beyond the meme ones. Scratch, Grounder, and sometimes Coconuts were great complimentary minions for him to have banter with and deliver insults to; and if you ignore how hateful and berating Robotnik is to them and ignore the badniks kissing up to Robotnik just for the sake of being on good terms, they genuinely have a good dynamic with each other, respect each other, and enjoy each other's company. Robotnik himself said it when questioning why he should repair them: "I'm just too sentimental for my own good... Much too sentimental." Anytime I look at modern Eggman's top minions (that red sphere and yellow cube one for instance) they just feel like diet versions of Scratch and Grounder, who will never live up to how iconic those two were. If there is any continuity between AOSTH and modern Sonic, I picture the newer henchmen as Robotnik/Eggman's futile attempts to recreate what he once had with the S.S.S.S.S. Squad before losing them; by the hands of Sonic trashing them beyond repair, Robotnik finally giving up on them in a fit of rage, or by some other means. I miss seeing them around, and longingly hope myself there's a chance they'd return one day. Personally the plot of each episode never felt too formulaic to the extent you say; enough variables were always changed from episode to episode that it never felt like any sort of brain rot was developing when watching multiple episodes in a row, but I will say the absolute worst offender of a recycled plot would be the two episodes "Submerged Sonic" and "The Little Merhog." They are so similar that before I got super into AOSTH I used to think they were the same episode at first glances. Of the two, "The Little Merhog" is better just for the uniqueness of having a new villain for Robotnik to have some chemistry with, and that submarine construction scene is my one of my favorite bits of the show. When it comes to the stakes of each episode's mid-point frequently being Sonic or Tails getting captured, that's unfortunately just inevitable when Robotnik's one obstacle for world domination is the "cat and mouse chase" dynamic he has with Sonic; it's no different than Bowser kidnapping Peach or Ganondorf hunting down the Triforce. Capturing or eliminating Sonic is just Robotnik's "win condition." Finally another favorite thing of mine to come from this show, amidst the lacking soundtrack, would be Dr. Robotnik's themes; it just hits all the right notes for me. And yes, I said themes; there's at least 3 unique tracks that have the Robotnik motif. Unironically, they are some of my favorite songs to listen to. It's a tragedy there is no OST or clean rips of the themes, and any attempts to recreate or remix it today almost always take inspiration from a single, inaccurate version of the song which is unfortunately the top result if you search "AOSTH Dr. Robotnik's Theme." I always grew up a fan of Mario and never cared much for the Sonic games, even to this day, but AOSTH was what made me actually care about Sonic as a franchise.

Although the series didn't join the Toon Disney lineup until a little while after its April 1998 launch, it eventually did in September 1998, and afterward it aired every day on the network for over four straight years, and the channel even dedicated a marathon of the entire series called the "Sonic Hog-A-Thon" for Groundhog Day 2001. This made it easy to record every single episode for those who were into the hobby of recording cartoons, and it may have played a role in keeping the series from going into obscurity. The show left the network alongside other older Disney and DIC cartoons in August 2002, before the channel's rebranding.

Want to know one thing I think is really nice about this show? Unlike a lot of other cartoons like, say, Spongebob, which usually choose a small handful of environments (Jellyfish Fields, Krusty Krab, Boating School, etc), AOSTH spends time in a LOT of different environments! Such as Space, a snowy mountain, an Old Western setting, a pirate ship, ancient Egyptian times, an amusement park, the ocean, an underground mine, medieval times, I could go on! That really gives the environments of the episodes a great variety!

I know this show kind of lives in infamy for how nonsensical and juvenile a Sonic adaptation it is, but...I can't help but love it. It gave us a meme gold mine, iconic versions of Robotnik and his minions, and nailed the little brother dynamic Sonic and Tails had. I watch episodes occasionally today and still get a good laugh out of it.

5:20: One positive to balance out this criticism on AoStH Tails, is that his development felt more organic. The ironic thing about this positive is that SatAM Tails is 12 years old and wasn't used much, whereas AoStH Tails is 4-6 1/2 years old within the syndication run of the series, yet is more active than his SatAM counterpart; I reiterate, the underrated comedic show with a younger Tails that is used a lot, is a better depiction than the overrated serious show with an older Tails that is used less.

What if in an alternate timeline, every early-1990s' Sonic comic and TV show came out later in 1996(the franchise's 5th Anniversary)? Just after more games came out from SegaSonic to Sonic the Fighters. What would've changed about the Sonic franchise(even promotional materials)?

DiC managed to keep making cartoons as far as the late 2000s with mixed results. I don't know if they made cartoons beyond that, as I haven't seen any going forward. What I do know was that their adaptation of Dennis the Menace was my childhood, which the live action movie adaptations were based off of, rather than the original series from the 50s.

I agree with you, Super Mario Trilogy TV Show (Super Show, Adventures of 3 and World) are not the best adaptation of Mario because you say exactly as i say “it’s a weird taste” and even then it’s not based on the source material than Sonic did
@brandonadam71677 ай бұрын
I think portraying Sonic as a Looney Tunes character who does a bunch of silly antics is such a good interpretation of the character. Sonic in his conception is already very goofy. Dude's an anthropomorphic hedgehog who's blue, eats chili-dogs, runs fast and has a sidekick anthropomorphic Fox who has two tails and can fly. Although this show lacks any bit of logic, it's still cool to see an interpretation of the character that doesn't take itself too seriously and takes full advantage of its silliness.

I'm biased. On the surface, this is a B grade 90s cartoon, yes. However, for 90s kids, we got to watch our favorite Sega character every day after school and play his video games. It's not so much the cartoon, but everything the cartoon embodied and represented at the time. I have incredible memories watching this show many times after school in the 90s. So, many thanks to the creators.

What I love about AOSTH is how it leans into the Tex Avery/Bob Clampett style of animation. I’m sure for many kids this was their first introduction to this kind of screwball style animation and humor.

Oh, and is there anything else that you've been getting into lately? Because The Owl House ended (had a good time with the last season, even if it was far from perfect), I did check out Hailey's On It (has potential), saw Elemental in theaters praying that Pixar doesn't fail, got to see Villanos thanks to Max, and boy, do I have loads of games (the list is pretty long, so I won't have it here). Plus, there's huge stuff coming due to everything revealed at the Nintendo Direct. I look forward to Super Mario Bros. Wonder along with the Mario RPG remake, and am curious about the new Peach game. Anything you look forward to as 2023 is almost halfway over?
@lysander789 Жыл бұрын
Hey Fanboy! I'm gonna tackle your questions topic by topic. The game I've gotten into lately is Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. The Switch port is immaculate, runs well, and has been a blast to play. I've been busy this June over work (KZbin is my side hustle). Skyward Sword has my favorite Zelda story and I do miss the linear structure Zelda titles (pre-BOTW). As for the Nintendo Direct, there are too many good Mario games coming out. Mario Wonder has me intrigued with its dimension-bending mechanics and animal transformations (elephant Mario comes to mind). Mario Wonder is my next hype target for Fall 2023. It might be just as fun as the other New Super Mario games. The Super Mario RPG remake and the new Peach game look fantastic. Thing is, I might not have the time to play them all. 🤷♂️ On the animation front, I've lost some enthusiasm for Disney media. The latest crop of Disney cartoons (Hailey's On It, Molly McGee, and Moon Girl) have been "okay" at best, but didn't excite me as their previous work (Gravity Falls, Star vs. FOE before it fell off a cliff). Without spoilers, did The Owl House get a good ending? I liked the first season of TOH, but I don't want another "Game of Thrones season eight" type of train wreck (looking at you, Star Butterfly). 🔥 I have not seen Pixar's Elemental. I heard it was a decent love story, but the world building had a lot to be desired. It's sad that it's flopping. I will have to check it out on Disney Plus. HBO's Villanos has cool designs, but it didn't grab me right away. I'll have to skip out on that one. In terms of new stuff I've seen, my taste has trended towards the HBO MAX / Adult Swim side of the equation. I laughed my butt off at Clone High season two. Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (made by the guy behind Samurai Jack) is both dark yet dramatic. It might just be me getting older, but I've been enjoying the edgier niche of animation. Adult Swim is not for everyone, but after being burned by the constant flow of Disney mediocrity, it was a good change of pace. I hope that answers your questions!

In fact, I am considering changing my username to Fictionboy because I have found out that fanboys aren't exactly good, and I don't want people to think I'm the bad kind of fanboy. That was a nice review for Sonic's birthday! I've known this show for a while, but didn't get to watch it, and I don't see myself getting to it anytime soon. And while on the subject of Sonic's birthday, what do you think of the updates for Frontiers that released so far? Also, are you interested in Sonic Superstars, and is all the content for Origins Plus convincing enough to get it, or would you rather play the original versions of all 16 games in the collection? Did you have a noteworthy reaction to The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog? Don't think I need to ask you about Sonic Prime Season 2, since you said it's next on your Sonic Bucket List. Well, in any case, hope you had/have a big bash for the Blue Blur!
@lysander789 Жыл бұрын
Hey Fanboy! The updates to Sonic Frontiers are pretty sweet. I'm more excited for the next stages in conjunction with the mods (the Steam Workshop items have helped the game tremendously). Sonic Superstars looks dope. The art style is cute and the four player co-op looks as fun as New Super Mario Wii. For Sonic Origins Plus, that'd be best for a sale. I was more of a 3D as a opposed to a 2D Sonic guy. As long as Origins Plus fixes all the bugs, it'll be on the list. Also, I didn't have the time to play the Sonic Murder Mystery game. I heard SnapCube and DanRock had crazy reactions to it, but the point-and-click nature didn't interest me. Lastly, thanks for asking! I did have a fun time during the Blue Blur's birthday! I'll see you in the next Sonic Prime video.

This one is a pass for me. Out of all the Sonic TV shows made, this one is one of the weakest. This is basally Looney Tunes but with Sonic. I found the slapstick humor to get old and repetitive real fast. It's such a shame that this got 60+ episodes, but SatAm only got 26. It should have been the other way around. The best thing to come out of Adventures are those cringey PSA's at the end of the episodes. At Least Robotnik was entertaining.

Nah. Adventures is better. Sat Am should've just been a one season show.
