It never really sat well with me when people said Steven was unlikable in Steven Universe Future 'because of the way he acted'. But one thing i really liked about the epilogue series was actually how Steven acted and reacted to past and current events. It shows mental health such as PTSD to be ugly at times because guess what? It is. It felt like they handled it very realistically and it had me watching intently to the end because its a little rare to see consequences from previous episodes as far back as season 1 carry on to later ones in cartoons. It definitely felt more rare back then, so to see it in Future was great. Mental health can be extremely painful, uncontrolable and make us say/do things we don't want to. I'm not sure how that can really be in a more literal sense, since the gems are effectively hard light constructs created from within their core. However, since the gems are essentially whatever patterns exist within their core, I suppose it'd be possible for her to basically overwrite her own programming. This would in effect make Steven a more permanent hard light construct, which would explain certain abilities he's had, including his ability to fuse.

My question is where does Greg come into play? Though Gems can shapeshift human body systems, they can't even be seen on an x-ray since they aren't truly organic, as shown in Steven Universe Future. However Steven is organic like his father and also resembles him. Clearly to me, the birds and bees come into play here. Yes Rose gave up her physical form, but Steven also stated that "The other part came from his Dad." Instead of giving birth the human way after intercourse, she sacrificed her body for Steven with the help of Greg's uh.. DNA shall we say. Since her body is incapable of producing another gem. It just makes the most sense to me anyway.
@hunterwillis3775 Жыл бұрын
@GodsmackAR69 you just made me think of something. The statement that Pink's body can't make another gem is technically wrong, though that's splitting hairs since that would be very difficult to do. But that does make me think, could she theoretically use the fluid their bodies seem to naturally produce to create a "blank" gem, thus birthing Steven with his own gem while keeping hers?

My favorite thing about the show is the concept of fusion. They become literally more than the sum of their parts. In "Stronger Than You", garnet sings about being a conversation, she isn't just two people and then one person, she is also a metaphysical embodiment of who they are as people and their love for each other. There are so many fascinating layers to what fusion is and represents that I could talk about it all day. This show's exploration of relationships and intimacy are what mean the most to me. I started binging this show right after losing my brand new job due to the pandemic and it helped me process my emotions in ways I really needed.

I began watching the show when I was beginning my graduate schooling in clinical psychology, eventually training to specialize in PTSD assessment/treatment. This show was a wonderful experience, including the parts that were fun, zany, beautiful, heartbreaking, and unsettling. I appreciated the main show and movie, and I thought a major idea of the show was a reckoning with the concept of the lone hero trope, often reflected in American culture and anime alike. To me, Steven Universe Future was an indictment of this trope, and makes the viewer reflect on the emotional consequences of being in all those dangerous situations, as well as how people can try to cope with them, and the effects that all has on one’s loved ones. (The sacrifice of the lone hero is not just felt on the hero.) The personal toll was literally spelled out when he is talking with Dr. Maheswaren, who informs him about PTSD (great quality in my opinion!). While the series wrapped up quicker than I’d have liked, it’s effects are and will be overwhelmingly positive and long-lasting.

Despite the bad reputation that this show usually gets as well as my few peeves with it, Steven Universe has a place in my heart. One of the biggest parts of this show for me was the aspect of trauma and mental health. Watching this series, I often found myself empathizing with the characters and really clinging onto the things they’ve said. In this case, I suppose I would relate to Steven, Amethyst, and Rose the most. Much like Rose, I’ve grown up in a home that was filled with instability where I was often faced with complete opposites on the spectrum on abuse. I was often neglected but also nitpicked on and scared into submission. Much like Rose, I’ve found myself unintentionally repeating the cycle of hurt. I’ve also found my voice in Amethyst due to her extremely low self esteem, her feeling of being inferior and not fitting in, and finally how it’s affects the way I act or even how I maintain my room and hygiene. And lastly, I relate to Steven the most. The way that he had so much put on him at a young age and how it slowly chipped away at him was so relatable to me and I’ve often found myself crying just thinking about what he went through. We’ve both had to find out about horrible things that our family has done, neither of us were able to have a normal, functional life. And as we both grew up, we were often pushed aside and had to be the ones to comfort others. This lack of care has made us internalize our pain until we just suddenly snapped and now constantly face breakdowns over the smallest things. One thing I liked in future was how Stevens trauma was described. All these little traumatic events eventually cracked and chipped at his head and, now, every little thing feels like the end of the world. I don’t mean to ramble but this show means so much to me. This show was how I learned about the existence of the LGBTQ community and eased me into my journey of exploring my own sexuality. Most children shows aren’t this advanced, it’s so lucky that Steven Universe didn’t face as much censorship as other shows. Overall, this series is a beautiful peace of art that will have a close place to my heart and has been something that has completely altered who I am as a person.

I was completely enthralled, I finished the entire show & movie & Future in about 3 weeks, then I got my wife to watch it all with me again the next month. I can understand why some people have problems with the villains or the narrative being a little rushed, but I have so much love for this show. The music is all amazing, the art and aesthetic is lovely, the characters are so real and lovable. This will be one of my favorite shows of all time (and I did buy the whole Funko Pop set LOL)

I was maybe too old for the target audience when this was airing (mid-20s) but I fell in love with this show and avidly followed it when I found it (somewhere around the time they revealed Pink was shattered). I loved the concept of fusions and seeing Ruby and Sapphires wedding was so heartwarming and made me wish I grew up with that kind of representation on TV. This is my absolute FAVORITE show of all time! I absolutely adore everything about it from the story, songs, characters, animations, themes, and everything else about it 🤩 and this is one of the shows that gets unnecessarily hated on a lot, and that really annoys me, because Steven Universe is just such a beautiful show. Steven Universe is my one comfort show I always come back to. I was 16 when it came out and it felt so different to be as a queen positive story since I had just came out myself earlier that same year. (and I really like gemstones so win/win) and wrapped up in 2020 right as the pandemic struck and I lost my job due to the shut down. I grew up with the show and characters, most notably Steven. I know the show hasn't aged the best with how rough season 1 is, the amount of filler, and how rushed the ending is but I still thank Rebecca Sugar and the rest of the Crewniverse for giving me a show that wasn't afraid to tackle real-world feelings and situations in a fantasy setting. I'm really glad to hear your review and enjoyment of the show :) I love seeing new people discover and experience the show for everything that it has to offer.

Personally, I think SVTFOE deserves it the most, because they ruined their show themselves. SU was rushed, but thats only because they got canceled. They had filler, but SU didn’t know they’d get get canceled, and had to rush everything bc CN didn’t like the wedding. SVTFOE got canceled, but they new. And they still added multiple filler episodes in season 4. Not only that, but they also made straight up stupid decisions, which I wont get into in this comment.

I've always found it fascinating that Gem reproduction is intended to mimic how viruses replicate. The injectors (which are designed to look like actual viruses but as machines) cause the planet they are deployed on to produce new gems by pulling the resources from the planet, eventually destroying it. Considering that the gems are also not organic and do not require most things that living things typically require to survive, the gems are effectively sentient pangalactic viruses. It connects very strongly to the show's overall theme of understanding and empathy first even to that which seeks to harm you.

gem bodies being made of light gives them a very precise control over their shapeshifting. since photons are smaller than atoms, i assume that rose shapeshifted the necessary cellular gear needed to produce and house steven. and that half of his physical makeup is actually just light energy pretending to be organic matter so effectively that the actual organic matter can't tell the difference.

I was one of the ones that started right as season one was ending and saw the premier of its finale with Garnets reveal. The first episode that got my attention tho was where Sugalite was formed. It had a musical number as well as the fusion aspect and I was so so intrigued. This series has made me absolutely bawl. Im an empathtic person and can relate to steven very well. Amethyst is close in that too. But I will cherish this show for not hiding itself and teaching kids to not only be themselves but to be open to all of the differences around them. Learning about life, death and what it means to be human and to learn and grow. A lot of people hate how steven "saves everyone" and it isnt darker than it already is, but I will stand by a show that can give some glimpse of hope of what being better can be. Opening your heart to others un-ashamed and learning from the ups and downs of life. Basically this show is so near and dear to me emotionally Ive had plans on getting the song "Change Your Mind" tattooed with Roses flowers. To remind myself "I dont need you to love me, I love me." When times are rough.
