I'm actually hugely impressed by the last one. That game very obviously took a ton of effort to make - fully unique models and animations by someone who obviously doesn't have much experience with it. As someone who doesn't know how to animate and has tried (and failed) to make animations, how far this guy got is crazy. Same thing with the models - when you don't know how to model something, making something look like that is very difficult. That game looked like a game made out of passion, and I'm always happy to see something like that.

FUTURE GAME DEVS: Learn Unity, THEN Unreal, that way you get used to coding by hand and you get to understand how the code itself works. Make a few games in Unity, then switch to Unreal once you feel comfortable in Unity and it will become a lot easier. Also, NEVER use the default mannequins in your fully released game. Don't flip base games like Lyra, try to build up your multiplayer and whatnot from scratch. However, I do recommend using the prebuilt first-person/third-person set up and working your way up. Lyra and similar things are meant to TEACH, it is NOT meant to be a crutch. Real gamedev takes time, and you should understand that a good quality game is going to take a long time.
@kitsunemusicisfire8 ай бұрын
@@d_mb That's true but right now Unity is safe for now, they rolled back most of their new policies and fired the CEO. And Unreal is pretty easy to use for solo devs. I made a game in one week with a couple of friends in Unreal, and have been able to do a lot of decent work in Unreal Engine.

I really dig this format style of reviews! I really like how you're just judging if the creator put in effort by looking over various things, especially recognizing something simple like the controller vs keyboard prompt changing. Honestly, I think the Future Project DOES have stylised graphics. I've played it - actually before Wiz did, interestingly enough - and not only is it taking place inside a simulation as Wiz said, it's made clear its in-universe creators weren't particularly concerned with how it looked (since it presumably wouldn't affect the AI's performance). I think the art style is supposed to reflect this, and it looking THAT silly is a design choice.

That last game - _The Future Project_ - is why gamers should demand more from Steam. Seeing you play this great little single dev game (which I just discovered had an update & _full_ patch notes posted today) after following 'The Day Before' dumpster fire the past week... it simultaneously restores my hope in the indie scene while infuriating me that talented & dedicated game developers (as well as aspiring devs) like this get buried under shovelware & scams. 👍to this format, your observations about tutorials are gold for devs. So many big streamers & creators ignore tutorials that I think devs now see them as optional... but when most of your prospective player base don't play games for a living, it's not a good move to make learning to play your game harder than requesting a refund. I also gave you a 👍even though I was neither watching on my 2nd monitor nor mobile... Wiz is main monitor content in this household! (well, the first watch-through anyway... then it's off to the 2nd monitor with you!) And 👍👍 for the comment @ 12:52 ... the Wicked Wiz call-to-action perhaps?
