To be fair everything until episode 12 is basically the prologue of the story, so besides that there isn't really anything other than the protagonist to keep you watching it. And even the second cour (13 to 24) it's still the start of the story, the anime will likely end on the first big plot twist of the series (Volume 5 of the light novels), so you will only have a gist of what makes the series good.

The endings for this show are truly fucking legendary, and this show has only been around since January! And in that time, I've now read all 11 of the English translated volumes! Seriously recommend them! They are a lot better than the anime, and will enhance your watching experience immensely.
