As a holder of unconventional Final Fantasy opinions, hearing this was the creator's favorite had me curious heading into it. With the love for Final Fantasy 7, why did this one standout? Coming out of this experience on the other side, I totally get it. This is story is an EXPERIENCE to put it lightly.

Quina Quen- "I do what I want. You got problem?" Quina is the type of character that shows the simplicity of life. That it doesn't have to be as daunting, or difficult, or hard. That it can be as simple as how you want it to be as long as you're true to yourself. How you can live life how you want to. That's Quina's input in the narrative, and how they choose to live their life compared to the rest of the party members. Edit: I'd also like to add, that Quina also represents the sort of person that lives to experience life and what it brings. Lastly, that even if others don't like Quina, I don't think they'd care either way. They live their life how they want to, and that can be respectable.

Yes! Come here with that justice for Quina! Simple, yet elegant. Also, Quina's perspective is so different from other party members that I find him/her refreshing. A standout moment for me is how he/she was the last picked to go tackle a shrine. He/she doesn't bemoan their apparent low social standing with the other party members. The Qu believe that leftovers are a good thing (probably because someone thought to make more than enough food for any unexpected guests). So really maybe changing your perspective could make you much more satisfied in life. So overall, Retro Rebound is not wrong. Mechanically, Quina could be described as just made to complete the 4-party squad exactly when he/she is needed (and actually tends to get replaced pretty quickly by other party members more proximal to the story), but does that make him/her any less?

Quina is levity. FF9's cast is full of serious characters with sad stories. Quina is there a) to help keep the tone from getting too heavy (esp. when Steiner isn't around to be comically serious), and b) to give some perspective that while, yes, things can get sad and dark, you don't have to let it get to you and define you. While everyone is having existential crises, Quina is out there just living their best life, showing the player and the party what life is like when you don't let the bad things drive you.

@@cptwaavy Something about introducing one of my all time favourites to someone that young in today's gaming landscape puts a smile on my face. I think I was even about 12 or 13 when I played it the first time, VII was my first one at just 8 (I put it down for a year because of a certain plank in the Sector 6 slums that I couldn't see to progress lol). I'm not sure who I'd say my favourite from IX is, apart from Beatrix being a badass, but I do have a soft spot for Vivi. I was also the philosophical sort, so it was hard not to empathise. Has she finished it yet? If she's able to look past the dated aspects, I suspect it'll stick with her for a while. I think it's one of those games that stood the test of time well.

It's just the limitation of the games hardware is what causes it to slow down once an while. Had it been more patch up, it would be alot faster. There is an option that can makes the battles goes faster though.

@@jaretco6423 I feel that the problem isn't that it's slow - the problem is that what happens on the battlefield is almost always late compared to the commands you or the enemies input. And if you play on "Wait" mode (I've always played FFIV to FFXII on Wait Mode, I like to take my time to choose my next action), what is even more aggravating is that what happens on screen completely halts when you're in a menu, even though something should happen because some characters' or enemies' commands were already selected. You have to allow the time to flow again by getting out of the menu for one or two seconds, for the next queued action to perform. Basically, you're always kinda watching the distant past, which might make you select wrong actions (ie you're in the menu to select a white mage's action, absolutely nothing is happening on the battlefield so you decide not to heal because everyone is healthy, but little do you know that an enemy already chose to perform an attack on the whole party... That attack will occur before your white mage's action, effectively making you lose a turn. Infuriating at times). Oh, and when you enter a command, your character will always take a second or two to get into a "ready" stance before doing what you asked them to do, which makes for a completely useless and unpleasant delay. It's the only FF with those faulty behaviors, it's a shame they were too lazy to fix them in this Remaster. Battles being such an important part of an RPG, because of these issues I just cannot rate FF9 higher than FF6, FF7 or FF10.

This was my first introductory to FF, and still my favorite. Recently replayed again and still finding new things. The story, imo, is the best in the series. All characters and their developments are enjoyable (even though Freija and Armant were sidelined fairly early, story-wise). Also Quina can be one of the best mages if you take the time to build him/her. Their use is broader than vivi, who’s really only useful at the beginning/end or whenever Steiner is in party. Basically a more magic focused version of Armant. Story-wise, Quina is comic relief.

It was a payback after the time she went "silenced". I suggest playing Final Fantasy Tactics if you got the chance. Quina (kwin-a) is a reflection on the simplicity life can have when you know what you are and what you want. They're meant to be a juxtaposition to everyone else in the party who is driven by deeper fears or aspirations and bogged down in moral grey areas. Quina wants to support everyone to be as content as they can be. Quina recognises the danger of the journey, but instead of being cowed, they grab a fork. While their total input on the story and character development could have taken on a bigger role; they're almost like 'hidden' characters from my perspective. Their abilities can be OP to someone who's played the game a few times over. As a kid, I always used Dagger, Steiner and Vivi, but in my most recent play through, I switched it up with Eiko, Quina, and Amarant. It was satisfying and.a huge refresh on the combat strategies that I remembered.

One of the reasons I prefer FFVII Remake is bc the battle system is a lot better, but while I haven’t finished FFIX yet, the characters in this game are all very different in the way they play with different strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn't say VII Remake's combat is "better", it's very different. That said it also isn't without its flaws, like the sort of poor AI and the aerial combat on flying enemies is pretty terrible, very mashy, etc. VII Remake's combat got me more annoyed on Normal mode at times than it did satisfy me. Especially towards the end.
@stevenanderson7620
@stevenanderson7620 2 жыл бұрын
@@FurryWulfz I mean the AI is actually kind of ok. You aren’t supposed to “main” a character, you’re supposed to swap between everyone to build up ATB and unleash your abilities or some magic. Whoever you aren’t controlling generally plays defensively until you swap control to them and build up ATB with them. It took me a while to understand that, but the game became a lot more fun that way. That being said, I agree about aerial combat. The camera fights against you during aerial combat, and the fact the game has no dedicated jump button is irritating to say the least. At the end of the day, I prefer Remake’s battle system, bc the og game didn’t do much to differentiate between characters, and it felt like other FF games just complimented the ATB system better. Such as this game. I still love ATB in og FFVII, but somehow other FF games from the time made it feel more fun imo.

this game ran into an infamous issue: because storage space was so limited on their 90s computers, after the development was finished, they actually deleted the 3-d models that they used to make the background renders in order to make room for another project. Thus when it came time to remaster the game for a PC re-release over a decade later, they didn't have those assets, and were forced to upscale the 480p renders that were stored on the disk instead of re-rendering them, resulting in them being really blurry and gross on any modern HD screens. They literally just didn't have the files they used originally. There's actually a fan-made mod that did some AI upscaling to make the environments look better. It's not perfect, but it really helps capture how gorgeous some of the environments and vistas you visit are a lot better, and helps the characters look significantly less out-of-place by virtue of being rendered at a much much higher resolution than the backgrounds they're standing on.

Nine was my first final fantasy, but I only felt the true soul of this game after tackling the previous games then replaying Nine, so many references to previous games and got more of the story because it hits a 10 year old different than a 19 year old

As another comment said, Quina is present as contrast. Without Quina's simplicity, and giving a bit of extra flavor to Vivi's backstory (as well as some interactions that contextualize the rest of the cast), the world would've seemed actually less _alive,_ funnily enough. Quina also filled a lot of otherwise empty spots by themselves (Quina's gender never _actually_ gets confirmed, nor does Vivi's, so take of that what you will), and indirectly encourages the player to take a break from the narrative (even if a bit forceful, imo). Generally, one either likes or dislikes Quina, and also generally does so _strongly._ However, I'm indifferent to Quina. Quina was handled well enough, especially since they're a bunch of tropes that you _wouldn't_ expect in a JRPG.

Will always be my favourite as it was my first FF game. Got it as a gift one Christmas, along side a brand new PS2. I didn't expect to play it much as I had a shiny new PS2 and GTA3 to play. That plan was shattered when the PS2 turned out to be faulty. I was gutted. Ended up playing FF9 on my old PS1. Immediately loved it. Sparked my love of the whole series. Turned out we couldn't get a new PS2 for a few weeks as they were sold out everywhere. But I honestly didn't mind. I got to play the best JRPG of all time.

Needs a remake. Just like FF6! 6 IS THE BEST! 6 and 9. 7 is good but damn there are other FF games, 2,4,6,9 deserve credit. I still can't believe this is your 1st time playing FF9 Matty. But glad you love it! Honestly just downloading now on my ps4 to play again for the 100000000 time

2:34 no no... kidnap Princess Garnet. Not the Queen. Maybe you wanted to see the hidden scene and you mixed your words hahaha (if you didn't know, when you go over the plan with the Tantalus at the beginning, if you say "that's when I kidnap Queen Brahne" *50 times,* Ruby comes storming in to make you advance the story... because she's Ruby). Anyway, yep, it's a great game, definitely my fav main FF game story wise. You should check Memoria Project also, it's pretty nice to see Vivi and Alexandria in 3D even if it's a short experience. If you haven't tried, I also particularly liked Final Fantasy Tactics' very mature story but the game's not everyone's cup of tea (geopolitics/politics/social issues + tactical RPG mechanics) Suikoden II also but I won't say much more since it seems you've already played/tried it or at least you know about it. *edit:* not that it really matters but Zidane is technically pronounced just like the French soccer player, Zee/dan not Zay/deyne. But yeah it's not that important

tbh i loved this game more than FF8. I don't know why but the whole world was way more lovable for me. FF8 was too much Teenager Angst and lovestory in a sci-fi world. FF9 was pure fantasy. Sadly the game was too easy so most of the time the cool skills were not that neccessary for the regular playthrough. (i was 15 when it came out and played it when i was 16) the only issue i had even back then: the ATB gauge filled up WAY to slow. FF8 was "quicker" ... and Adamant was just... "there" regarding remake: IF they remake it i HOPE they don't make a button masher like ff7 remake

Favorite final fantasy game for me as well. Played it when I was very young, and it left an impression. I am very curious about what a remake of this game could be. I highly doubt they are going the FF7R route with it. I could see them doing a near 1:1 remake with better visuals, a improved battle system and maybe some other extra additions, but not the AAA treatment that will impress everybody. But we'll see. I am very open with whatever they come up with, as long as it's not an ugly broken mess. I am just excited that there might be something more coming out of FF9.

Qyina as a character was bizarre, Quina as a useful party member? Amazing 👏. The best blue mage in the series, fight me. Amarant is basically a reskinned Shadow (FF6) with some semi-useful side abilities. No slouch but definitely not the best, but at least he's useful for the shrine section where everyone splits (if you've grinded his abilities and not neglected him like many do).

It took me a few years to realise 7 is my favourite because I had this weird thing (which I still have now and I believe will always have) where when I'm playing 7, I think it's the best....but when I'm playing 9, I think it's the best. I have this constant back and forth between the two and I'm always in favour of whichever one I'm playing. It's only when I'm playing neither that I say I prefer 7. So that tells me I ultimately prefer 7, but needless to say it's a very close call and 9 is without any doubt my second favourite. Technically speaking there are MANY things about 9 that are better, but for me 7 just wins. It's such a hard comparison but if I was forced to pick it'd have to be 7. I'd be over the moon if they remade 9. Especially if it looks like this Memoria Project thing that's going on....my god....😍👌

Playing it on PC is equivalent to I don't know, taking an old western movie and increasing the saturation by 200% and the fps by 300% so that it looks like a home video shot in a candy factory. It looks soooo bad, these old games were meant to be played at 410x234 something resolution in a 4:3 aspect ratio. They completely removed the unique font meant for the UI and replaced it with Arial as well as changed the UI completely so that fingers on a handheld device could click the buttons. That is why bubbles pop up when you walk next to characters so that you can click on them with your finger on a touchpad. Anyone reading this and who hasn't played the game, do yourself a favor and play it on a playstation 1 emulator. The port is terrible and the mod that upscales the backgrounds isn't much better because it doesn't fix the other problems. Oh yeah and the encounter rate is lowered by 200% so the dungeons aren't going to be as challenging. Very unlikely you'll ever die in the game. The same wasn't true on the original. Very good children's game, very bad port.

So, I just finished FFIX during this past weekend, I know a lot of FF fans say it’s the best one, but…hm…I guess it just didn’t hit as hard for me. It’s good, but there are other FF games that I have enjoyed more. If I had to rank the Final Fantasy’s that I’ve played so far it’d be like this 1. Final Fantasy XV 2. Final Fantasy VIII 3. Final Fantasy XII 4. Final Fantasy VII Remake 5. Final Fantasy VII 6. Final Fantasy X-2 7. Final Fantasy IX 8. Final Fantasy X It might be weird seeing IX & X so low, but I want to say, I genuinely liked both of them. I’ve yet to play a Final Fantasy game I don’t like, it’s just, I didn’t enjoy them as much as the others. IX’s battle system is so fucking SLOW, and it took forever to load battles when going into new areas (even with the speed up). That wasn’t a problem 7 nor 8 had. Also, I enjoyed the Materia and Junction system more than the ability system in 9. Stealing to make sure you always got the best equipment would get tiresome after a while too. Story wise 9, for me, was good, but that’s all I can really say. I enjoyed the storyline in other FF games more. The ending parts of 9 reminded me of 7 and Tales of Arise mixed which I found interesting. Also, the OST was just alright. There wasn’t a standout track besides Melodies of Life to me. 7 has a lot of great ones, 8 does too, and XV’s OST is my favorite out of the whole series. Soooo many bangers on that one. Omg, you didn’t like Quina!?!? I fucking LOVED Quina. S/he is one of the only FF characters to actually make me laugh hard lol. That wedding scene with ViVi before visiting Eiko’s village made me laugh so hard lol. No FF game has made me laugh like that. Plus, Mighty Guard blue magic is awesomeeeee. The characters are the bread and butter of this game. I love this cast. They’re so funny and gel well together. Zidane is a great protagonist, and the people around him are excellent. I’d say Garnet is my favorite because I enjoyed her arc the most, and then Quina because s/he made me laugh so much. I love their dialogue lol. Eiko and Vivi would probably be tied for 3rd. I love Eiko’s epilogue scene with Cid and Hilda 🥺. That was adorable. IX has one of the best endings too. I’m glad it was happy. When Garnet started running to Zidane, I started crying lol. Overall, a really good game. Not my favorite FF, but still a damn good one.
