mk9 was a modern (at the time) version that brought all the elements that the fans loved from the og trilogy. The tag mode was so great and so were the x rays

Still the best MK game in the NRS era. Perfect blend of cheesy, serious, sexy, bloody, and the story mode was such a gift to those of us who were familiar with the first 3 games. Although i enjoyed X, its a shame how much they changed direction, especially with the female characters.

Nah female character designs in 9 were too much they went too far from the normal for the series that it was just weird. X had way better designs for them. Also the story honestly just spat in the face of the original 3 games story, if you were familiar with them. It got a lot of things wrong & very flawed writing. I think MK9 is a great game but also had some flaws.

@@bloodycherri2798 just have to agree to disagree when it comes to the female character designs. I do think Soyna's didn't make much sense considering she's special forces but the Edenian female ninjas had all used their "looks" to an advantage in most of the lore I'm familiar with, especially Mileena. Plus MK has always been over the top. The outrage regarding the character models reminded me a lot of how people freaked about the violence during the arcade era. And I thought the story almost followed the first 3 games spot on. Especially MK 1&2. They got a little wild with game 3's intro into the story of MK9 because at that point they had to start pushing things toward the new direction they were going. But it's all good! People are welcome to like what they like. That's what makes the series fun 👍

The reason why MK9 is so great is Midway designed the whole game when Midway was going Bankrupt. WB Then came in and told them to finish the game and they would release it. After MK9, WB Inserted the Sweet Baby Diversity into the game, which has had a weak effect on the game, when you uppercut you don't get "outstanding" the aggressive Select Screen music, is gone... all of these things seems mediocre but have ruined the feel of the game. MK9 was the last great MK game. I did like MKX as the diversity stuff was lite but MK11 and MK1 I can't stand.

It's so simple. No need to overwhelm yourself needing to learn variations or a second character at the same time. You can get away with learning how to fight with one character on MK9.

Broken characters are actually great for newer and younger newbies to the game in fun and casual matches. I remember playing with my younger cousins and despite being new to the game, they could still keep up with me thanks to those cheesy characters and it was really fun. Good times

People are idiots, tag team mode not being in recent games is why I’ve not bought any mk since this one. What was more fun than playing on the same team as a mate and tagging out when you were struggling to have your teammate put in a shift. So good.

So true. I can’t even fathom how people didn’t enjoy tag team. It makes the game way more fun. Gives you the choice of adding another player and another character to mix it up. 2 v 2 been there since UMK3/Trilogy but they made it even better in Mk9. It makes no sense

I would have 2 v 2 nights with a crew of friends at the house, and it was so much fun to just mix and match and have strategies and tag-team moves to have your partner continue the attack. It was way better than cameos and ahead of its time.

I was a die hard Street Fighter fan back in the day. (Still am 😂) But I played this at a buddy's house after work back in the day. It was surreal seeing stages from the first MKs remastered so beautifully. The gameplay, story mode, arcade endings, and the amount of sheer content packed into this was insane. You could tell that they put their heart and soul into this one. Needless to say, I became a die hard NRS fan afterwards 😅

This was the last time Mortal Kombat was actually good. MK9 imo is a masterpiece of a game. Def the best MK next to MK Deception, MK3, Shaolin Monks. The character designs were awesome, the roster was great, I loved the guest characters and the returning MK characters, the modes were fun, tag battles are fun, the costumes are amazing, it wasn't censored back then like it is now due to overweight jealous people.

@@Southernguy39 It's not the same. First off, it wasn't a cameo, though there WERE cameo tag moves you could do. Second, you could have combos that led to a tag and extended combos. Third, and probably most importantly, it was two playable characters versus two playable characters, and the round ended when both were defeated, with a health recharge as the game progresses. It made for strategy, skill, and a bit of fun. In short, I get this is a gotcha response, but you're respectfully, off-base in this.

As a Singleplayer person, this was such a huge game. An actually good Story Mode, loads of things to do, skins to collect, Kratos as a bonus character. Especially in Germany this was huge, since it was the first true 3D Mortal Kombat game that wasn't censored in Germany.

Shoot I was just playing MK9 on my steam deck the other day and was surprised on how fun the game still is my favorite is still MKX by a long mile, but MK9 is still one of the goats.
