I saw Prima two days ago, and you’ve articulated everything I wanted to say so beautifully. I left the theatre in a state of shock (then had to pull myself together because I met Jodie twenty minutes later hahaha). This play will stay with me for the rest of my life, as I’m sure it will anyone else who has seen it. Jodie is going to be so huge. She already is, but I mean really, really huge.

Thank you so much for watching the play and of course for this review. I don't think the coversation about Jodie Comer in suit is going to stop anytime soon. I am loving it. ❤️

I totally agree with you that Jodie is other worldly she captures the audience with her spell binding performance and has them in the palm of her hand which I have also had the privilege of seeing. She leaves us stunned into silence and I wonder how she does it night after night and matinees as well she must be rung out at times. She is phenomenal.

I watched a screening at a local cinema last night. I would have said it was impossible to do what she did. Set changes. stage choreography and movement, climbing on furniture, speaking speaking non-stop for over an hour and brilliantly portraying a gamut of emotions, I can't believe she did what she did. Amazing. Brava! Oh; by the way, I also saw Top Gun Maverick this week. As I said to my wife, Prima was 100 times better. I thought Maverick was tosh just after I'd watched it. Jodie Comer's performance trampled it into the dirt.

Saw this in New York a few days ago. Her stamina for the number of performances and the energy on stage is amazing. I was thrilled to see what Jodie Comer would achieve live and she did not disappoint. Powerful and she hits every note of the play expertly.

I saw this tonight and I’m shook. I’ve been watching shows/plays since I was old enough to sit up and I’ve never felt like this. I never lost focus once and I am in complete awe of Jodie‘s performance and especially the last scene had me in tears. This will stay with me FOR A LONG TIME and although I thought this might be triggering (after all I too am that ”one woman out of three“..) it wasn’t.. I just knew as I’ve known before: SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE 🙏🏻

My friend and I were lucky enough to get to see this OUTSTANDING play while we were on holiday in Ashford, Kent. It was streaming live from London. Jodie's performance was UNBELIEVABLE AND AWESOME. Both my friend and I DEFINITELY KNOW that she will go far, maybe be the next Dame Judi Dench ? We have heard that after last screening in Britain she is going to Broadway. So, if you ever get the chance in seeing this AWE-INSPIRING thought provoking play DO GO AND SEE IT !! You won't regret it. And finally my Friend Elaine and I would like to wish Jodi Cormer ALL THE BEST FOR THE FUTURE AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. YOU DESERVE A 🏆.

I always wish I was in the U.K. anyway, but to see a performance like this live makes that even more true. I'm grateful that I will be seeing the broadcast of a performance at my local movie theatre on July 21st. It won't be the same as being at the Pinter, but at least I'll get to see the performance. Thanks for the review!

I wish I could see the play in person, unfortunately not though. The play really is very important. Even if it Is a rehash of things, it’s good to see that it’s being spoken about more and that more awareness is being brought to SA and the legal system surrounding it. Jodie does a phenomenal job at portraying emotions so I imagine that the play was very raw and real. The fact that Jodie chose to do this also shows just how down to earth and genuine she is, to do a play about such a sensitive topic but one that needs to be spoken about more. I don’t think Jodie realises the impact this play is/will have on people, and her performance just amplifies the raw emotion behind it all. So proud of Jodie for doing this.

I hope it is okay to share this here. I saw an article in today’s theater review section of the NY Times with the headline, “A Theatrical Neophyte With the Know-How of a Pro” and their opening paragraph praises Jodie for her stage debut in Prima Facie. The review ended with, “. . ., there’s no denying the visceral power of an evening that owes its sellout status to a theatrical neophyte who possesses the know-how of a seasoned pro.” Our girl getting coverage in The NY Times. I am so happy for her!

Wow, I just binge watched Anatomy of a Scandal yesterday, it has pretty much the same story. I agree Tessa, I hope works like these can shed a light about how victims of sexual violence are treated by the legal system.

Yes, here we are in the 21st century and women are still treated as second class citizens. The world would be a much better place if the patriarchy fell. Here in the US, things are horrific. I'm glad I have dual citizenship (German/Us), and I'm thinking very seriously of moving to Europe. Not only are they taking away the right to abortion, but this will lead to the taking away of gay marriage, gay rights, birth control and on and on. Very dark times in the US. I would love to see this play. Maybe it will be made into a movie at some point. I love Jodie Comer.

@RianeBane2 жыл бұрын
Lol they're not taking away the "right to abortion," it never actually existed because Roe v. Wade was a terrible decision (even Ruth Bader Ginsberg thought so), and overturning it simply lets people decide whether abortion will be allowed, and to what extent, in their own State. And it has nothing to do with gay marriage or birth control. Don't be swayed by the fear-mongering.
@dragonfox2.0582 жыл бұрын
@@RianeBane I guess you haven't seen the state trigger laws and one wanted to try women for murder. At least they nixed that one! but regardless of how bad the Roe law was and it was bad, it helped us for 50 years. This is gonna be a bloodbath...you watch. Both parties of men/handmaidens are playing political football with our lives
@JennPaciocco2 жыл бұрын
@@RianeBane where have you been ? They either have restrictions or abortion bans in almost 50 states. Yall don't belong in our uterus, especially if they gonna turn out like the rest of these assholes This is all religious shit and men not educated nor do they want to be. So yes I don't think it's far from taking away gay marriage as they have already done. It's legal where I am, it's not legal everywhere else

I am so greatful that this play was on the National's streaming service. My wife was kind enough to give me a months subscription as part of my xmas gifts and I. Am. Stunned. I adore Jodie, I adore her work (yes those suits...) and this is the best thing she's done yet. I am still absolutely floored and I've streamed it twice in the last 6 hours. The direction, the writing obviosuly, the music, the design elements, all complamented this so well, it was, in my mind, a perfect piece of theatre and kinda called me back to this theatrical world I've tried to leave.
@PlaceForAnEcho2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for reviewing. Rather jealous. The poster alone looked great. I have respect for Jodie that she chooses intense subjects. I’m amazed on Twitter a girl said the theater gave her another ticket after she read the email/confirmation wrong for the showing when she had a front row ticket. As someone who worked in a box office that’s unheard of and very kind the theater did that. My thoughts: Girl you read it wrong, it’s your fault but they said here’s a ticket. Shocked me. The “justice” system was built mostly by white men, it protects them, I’ve talked to many women and they often don’t want to go through the legal system because they know they’ll be attacked. Just so glad Jodie is doing this play. I can see her like Vanessa Redgrave (adore her) doing a 1 woman show when she’s very mature in her career. I wish you hadn’t experienced the trauma you have. Will say even though I’m a stranger I support your process and am here in solidarity. (Last night I literally told my mother figure my older male neighbor isn’t a creep and it’s a nice change. But it’s sad it’s rare when a male is just decent/respectful like it’s a grand accomplishment.)

I'm absolutely on your wavelength with this I thought I might be the odd one out.....it didn't quite move me in the way it did others and I also feel the burnout from the rehashed material, though it is important to keep banging the drum to highlight it and bring about change. I did feel the ending was over-egged/overly polemic and so the monologue became somewhat deadening as it closed. Still thankful to have seen it and to have been seated so close to the stage, JC's face is so expressive. I'd recommend the show to others for sure.

Great Great review. I saw Prima Facie when it first came out in the cinema last month (July) and omg i was blown away by it all. Thank you so much for the intelligent review and talking about not only Jodies' amazing performance but also what the play was actually covering.Her performance was something else. I agree with you though that the play itself did not cover anything new or present anything that so many of us have known for many years now. I do though feel like Jodie's performance added the human element and importance of that lived experience of being a victim/survivor and the sheer emotional intensity she infused into the pain and frustration of facing such an unjust system. The emphasis on the fact that this lived experience cannot be judged by such a linear technical court system and that an often traumatised victim is disadvantaged by technical legal tactics. I literally felt like I wanted to scream at times...it was so overwhelming.

For those who have seen Prima - question: I've been thinking about the climactic scene(s) again and specifically the plot point about 'the position of the arms/hands'. Surely no self-respecting QC would - could - argue the line the defence initially takes without being laughed out of court? Could they ...? The scary thing is that Suzie Miller is clearly very well-informed in this area, which suggests she writes from experience :-(

only saw the trailer last night. I even couldn't close my eyes. The trailer is so powerful. Jodie looks SO INCREDIBLE!!! 😵 Be honest. This's really seriously and tough topic. The actor must have very strong mental to carry on and go through the whole heavy process. Can not imagine Jodie have to play it twice one day, and day after day during the whole month. The writing was brilliant and the acting by Jodie Comer was top notch. I love watching whatever Jodie does. As a man I do find this subject very emotional but I never here any practical solutions, other than 'believe the woman'. May be the courts, as we know them, are not the right place to seek truth and justice in these circumstances. May be something else, a different approach, is required.
