I think the first time I tried to play the game I decided to play Bow. I can't even describe just how long it took to beat Anjanath in Low Rank lol. As a Bow Enthusiast, it being my main weapon alongside Swaxe, Bow recovery frames are deceptively long, I refused to play Bow against Fatalis, because you get stuck so easily with even basic attacks that last just a fraction of a second too long. And even normal hunts, if you compare the damage you take with an identical set but swap to a Blademaster weapon, it is immediately apparent the absolutely silly amount of extra damage you take, it is close to like double damage in my experience, I don't know the exact numbers. But as a Gunner, I'm usually at full health and seeing myself get hit for 75% of my HP when my buddies with melee weapons take like a fraction of that is wild. That being said, I still find Bow immensely satisfying to play, and will bring it to most hunts.

Imagine, you liked Lance that much and you don't know the Power Guard Cancel which is something that makes it that much more fluid and offensive. The side to side flame for instance where you counter guard but the counter doesn't come out, that happens because there is too much knockback on the attack. If you however press the dodge button while you are in that heavy knock back state you go immediately into power guard (so you skip doing it the normal way of counter guard and then power guard) which means that even in those attacks that lock you in place you can still counter! And there is even more but I've already said too much. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hello, Bow player since MHFU here. I fully understand your take on Bow on how it is a bit annoying that they have no defense and die on almost 0 hit. But as someone that have played bow my whole life, World and Rise is SUCH A GOOD upgrade, seriously. I'm just gonna list 2 important points here, Damage and Mobility. Bow pre-World era was an okay but not as good when we compare it to others, rather I felt like it is a Support DPS class. But when World came out, it changed everything, you have the option of chaining combos now for damage (+ finally you can cut tail with dragon piercer), and lastly mobility, having sidestep was huge, like really huge. Sure you can get punished by sidestepping range but the fact that it allows you to be in attack ready state immediately was enough. It saves so much time that I don't think I can go back to FU fighting against Shen Gaoren solo, seriously.

Seems like you haven't known about Lance's Power Guard Cancel technique yet! It's similar to your normal Power Guard, but instead of Power Guarding before the impact like normal, you can enter Power Guard AFTER the impact as well. In the video I see you use Counter Guard to negate the heavy knockback. After that, try inputting Block + Dodge and you'll enter Power Guard even after the impact!

Adding to this, it's a nice technique because you can cancel heavy knockback attacks like bellyflop early and follow up with a powerful attack or more guard dashing, it improves the tempo of the weapon tremendously. anytime you're thinking "man, i just got hit and i can't do anything for a couple seconds" you could power guard cancel and get back into the fight

Hi, GS main, for a long time I didn't really use Focus much. I'm weird with comfort skills, sometimes I feel like it's better for me to just learn "the hard way" and then I can adjust to easier timings, but man, Focus is a gamechanger for sure. Especially in Endgame IB where most of the time you have the room to fit almost any skill you want on what you want to build, so it doesn't even matter if you're prioritizing damage over comfort, just do BOTH LMAO I still GENERALLY prefer Focus 2, for whatever reason, over none at all or Focus 3, don't ask me why, but having Focus really opened my eyes a lot to how you can use this weapon more comfortable. I think Focus is unironically more important on draw attack charge builds as opposed to going all in on TCS, as while TCS is obviously slow, that hit and run playstyle can eke out a lot more damage if you have Focus 3 on a draw build instead of just tapping the draw attack. Maybe I'm a crackhead for thinking this way, but I think there's a nonzero chance somebody else out there feels the same way.
@GalactoseGalaxy2 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with "Just play the weapon how you want", spreadsheet gamers will tell you all of the optimal damage rotations but they refuse to tell you how to fit them into any matchup or get them to land consistently. like bow 2 charged shots and a power shot is good dps but if it forces you into a bad position or locks you into an animation that will get you hit then it ISN'T optimal. same with using fatalis weapons for every build, sure they're the highest raw damage but monster hunter has more than one way to slay a monster, and sometimes a good paralyze weapon in your 4 hunter party is a good enough window to dps a quarter of the monster's health with 0 risk. it's also a video game, and we play it to have fun at the end of the day. i think that's what's important about not having monster health bars, it doesn't matter how much dps we're dealing if we're having fun and the monster dies by the end of the hunt.

Started as a HH main in World (I'm always the support player of my friend group). I learned that the HH at base seems weaker than other weapons, but once you get your buffs rolling, they bring you up to par with the others. But I still argue the HH IS a support weapon, but it's not ONLY a support weapon. If you're in a group, you not only can contribute just as much as anyone else in terms of damage, but the buffs you give to the entire team can almost equal an entire extra hunter's worth of damage. Basically, the more people in your party, the STRONGER the HH becomes! Switched to CB in Rise because HH became freaking braindead to play. Hopefully it goes back to requiring at least SOME thought in Wilds.

I tend to think there's no true "support" in MHW. All weapons are just that, weapons. A true "support" is a proper Wide-Range build, which can be performed by all weapons (but preferrably with weapons having less sheathe time, on average). So, IMHO, HH songs are there to buff yourself first, your team receiving said buffs is incidental. Buffs are never a necessity, unless you're speed-running or some other specific case. You play to contribute damage, not to buff, otherwise the team as a whole will have a hard time hitting a decent DPS. It just happens that a part of HH's damage is distributed among players. Or at least that's how I face it. Massive cope, I know.

7:25 for general hunts I don't use focus but for fatty and alatreon, focus has much better return on investment. Their openings are much shorter and tackling against them is risky since even with tackle most attacks are twoshots at best. Focus making it possible to charge an extra level or fit in a TCS leads to much more meaningful breakpoint differences against the two black dragons. I've been playing GS since freedom unite and back then, I tried to slot focus wherever I had space, but with the introduction of tackle in world it really isn't all that crucial against most monsters anymore. (and then there's the rajangs on the extreme end of small openings where even 3 levels of focus doesn't make much difference coz monke does what monke wants)

Honestly GS has 2 core strategies in World: crit draw frostcraft, and tcs spam. For Fatalis you basically stand mid-range and bait cones which gives you a free level 3 draw attack. Focus is basically mandatory as the level 3 is so important for damage output. The Frostcraft build also can TCS efficiently since we can skip the second charge slash with the slinger. I play the most weapons in GU though(everything but Glaive, and Gunlance cause it sucks and by that I mean it's not worth the effort because of issues like launching teammates when shelling and heat gauge management). Gunlance in World has some silly things you can do with bombs and snowmen since basically your wyrmstake tries to attach to them but can't so multiple wyrmstakes attach to the monsters face and effectively 1-shot it, it's really funny

I consider the Hunting Horn as a utility weapon more than a support weapon. One utility is support, yes. But heavy exhaust and good ko damage are also utility, along with the many non-traditional "support" buffs like stamina up, earplugs, and knockback resistance. I'd consider all of those more utility than support. Even its long range follows the utility mindset. Same with its versatility of the new echo notes to allow it to be an elemental/status weapon in Iceborne.

As a Charge Blade main and Greatsword enjoyer, Focus is my best friend. Also don't mind it with Hammer, on the rare occasion I play that. Nothing else really uses it, but those are enough to earn it a spot in my heart. Edit: I would also love to know how many people are aware of Charge Blade's guard slinger burst. It's pretty cool

Also ima need that great sword build because you are doing more damage then me with a slightly charge attack then i do in full

It’s probably just frostcraft ( 4 piece Velkhana) and critical draw or something and focus to make it charge up faster

@@Kenshin-lw2dj I put that together and the max charge damage was 800 😭😭😭

Man as a CB main, I feel the same way. I hate savage axe, and everyone is always raving about it. I had a really hard time with CB on Fatalis, and other weapons seemed to have an easier time. Might go GS main for Wilds, or at least as a secondary.

I gave up on mh the first time after a 3U demo. Came back for stories 2, immediately downloaded rise, now world is my home, but i made sure to go back for 3U and 4U (i love 3U so very much now)

Finally recognition that the bow is hard. It's my favourite weapon but if I just wanna lay back and take it easy, I just swap to a melee weapon I play a fraction of the time.

Your way of playing with CB is so strange. It's better play almost like a Lance. Guard attack and immediately answer to it! And Guard points not so hard to learn, you need only 2 of them.

GL player here, thought I’d put Fatalis tips here for GL players since there is not a lot out there. Wyrmstake cannon is a BEAST, try and find opportunities to do it as much as possible! Some free opportunities would be when fatty cones, gets enraged (just block the roar and stake em), or does a 360 spin breath attack. There are other opportunities but they aren’t free like these. Heavy ammo poke shoot build is viable with raging brach or Ala full dragon elm up. Raw damage max crit is the best build in my opinion. No fatty gear build I found the best for me was the Ala GL, a full Safi set, max crit, max evade distance/evade window, double health argument, max heal boost, max crit damage, tenderizer, and with some extra dragon elm up. You only ever use shells in this build to wyrmstake and you just play it like a slap lance build. You will be outputting tons of damage with your crit stakes and will be healthy with all the healing you get. I also recommend not using wyvern fire as stake does sooooo much damage.

It's really interesting that you ended up leaning towards draw attacks with GE because that's how we used to play it. Everything wasn't all about the TCS. I make an effort to play Crit Draw as early as I can in every new MH game. ofc in the big openings you go for a TCS but other than that you really cam just do the ole smack and sheath.
@Kriss_941Ай бұрын
I will be that guy... HH is a support weapon, but why is that a bad thing? Being a support weapon doesn't mean it's not viable, BUT it's basically the only weapon that has support utility as an integral part of the weapons. SnS can choose to make a wide range support build, but HH can't choose not to bring support utility and buffs...

I also started trying weapons I’ve never used (in all of the previous games of the series) fighting fatalis. And without a doubt lance was the one that shocked me the most in mhw… I freaking love lance now poke poke poke baby Hunting horn is cool I guess…….
