Oblivion is the game responsible for my Bethesda Game Studios breakthrough. From there, I would take the deep dive into games like Fallout 3 and Morrowind without looking back. There's something special about all BGS games, but there's nothing quite as nostalgic as your first.

Oblivion will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember being 10 years old, at a friends house, watching his brother play on 360. I was floored by how 'real' it looked and when he was going to Kvatch and the sky started to turn blood red I was hooked. I got it for myself a year later and I couldn't get enough. Spent many hundred of hours, possibly more, exploring and getting completely immersed in the world. Now it looks goofy, the voice acting is either way over the top or deadpan and the mechanics are very broken but that just makes it more fun to play now as an adult. I replayed it 2 or 3 years ago and got quite a laugh out of it. 10/10 Game

Very similar to my introduction with the game. Went to my friends when I was about that age and watched him play and couldn't believe how good it looked and I loved the water ripples. Lol Downloaded it a little whole ago on the series x and have been replaying it and absolutely loving reliving it.

Oblivion is the reason I play video games. It's what caused me to go from an occasional casual player to considering games an actual hobby. Also; insanely good soundtrack. Some of the best adventuring music in any game, to this day.

Oblivion is amazing, played it a few months back also. People always ragging on the looks of the characters and the definitely amazing way this game has aged over the years, but I think it adds to the charm of this game. Also increasing difficulty bar and still remembering the first time I got beat up by rats. I always remember this game whenever a video game has me beaten up by rats. I just enjoy the atmosphere this game has for sure.

Honestly, I don't think the game has kept up with time it may of passed in it's day but in 2022 I don't' see anything really special with it even for an old game. Definitely compared with Bethesda's later titles like Fallout 3. Game is definitely more in depth than Skyrim but it really shows how bad Bethesda was at actually making functional games at the time, and honestly still are to an extent. Fallout 3 feels better to play only because using guns in that clunky environment works better than swinging a sword and I still think Fallout 3's graphics kind of hold up even today unlike Oblivion's. One thing I did like about the game was the writing/NPCs though. But that alone doesn't really make a game good. But to be brutally honest, it didn't even work as well as a lot of Playstation 2 RPGs. Actually playing the game s***s balls. I've played a lot of PS2 RPGs... and stuff like Steambot Chronicles, Metal Saga, Final Fantasy 12 kind of beat it quite easily as practical games despite being older. I'm curious whether this game's success came from hype training which is something Bethesda is good at doing. I think if it took a different art design perhaps people wouldn't look at it so poorly. Fallout 3 is only a few years newer, and as I said, I think the game holds up a lot better. It's art design is also different which definitely helps.

Just gonna correct ya there, Matty, about the Emperor. He's actually Sir Patrick Stewart. It's Martin who is Sean Bean. But yeah, Oblivion is so good. Replayed it a few months back, and it's still as great, and clunky, as I remember.

This is the game that made me fall in love with RPGs. Bought it for my 360 after drooling on the screenshots in the previews in game magazines. I was shocked by how good the graphics looked, little did I know I'd feel the same way about the writing and the quests and the exploration. I think Oblivion has the best side quests of any Bethesda game. Even though I'm much older now and more of its flaws clearly stand out to me, I still truly love this game.

When this came out, I had been dealing with bouts of insomnia that had me full on waking up at 3-4am, unable to get back to sleep. When this happened on a day off, I’d just get up and play this for hours and I loved all every minute. It made waking up that early much more bearable. I played as a female Dark Elf with a short sword and fire magic. I loved the Fighter’s Guild.

This is my favorite Elder Scrolls and I played Skyrim first. The factions and gameplay clicked with me way more, especially summoner builds because I loved the variety of summons in this gane. And the Arena needs to comeback in either an Elder Scrolls or new fallout. Its just relaxing fun to mess around in.

There’s a very soothing and transcendent atmosphere to this game that was unparalleled for its time. The sheer amount of freedom and unique quest lines made it a jack of all trades fantasy RPG. I had played and loved Morrowind and it was astounding how much better the graphics were. Right after that I started saving up money for a 360 and Oblivion. Took a while since I was working at a restaurant on weekends at the time. Still I eventually got the 360 and game and loved it. Tons of great memories.

I'm so happy to see you introducing Oblivion to your viewers. For me, this was my 1st TES game and I love it still to this day! It has so much more than Skyrim, more crafting, custom spells, some really well designed factions and a fairly equal distribution of all of the races. Skyrim was a wonderful game too but it doesn't hold a candle to my beloved Oblivion! Plus it didn't use Arnold Scwarzenegger's face model on all of the men (YUCK). I also really loved that the towns/cities were so diverse and they felt so alive... It has been many years since I first played it (about 16) and I am yet to find something else that makes me love a place such as Cyrodiil.

My favorite memory was setting the game soundtrack to silent and playing Beserk OST over it as I entered and fought in oblivion for the first time ever!! I highly recommend it!! Listening to the Eclipse theme from Beserk while fighting off hordes of Dremora felt like the closest thing I'd ever get to being like Guts without actually being him. The entire time I was there all I could care to do was swing my greatsword over and over again. It was madness and the fear and atmosphere was completely bone chilling...

I actually just played Oblivion again all through it for the first time since before 2010 I imagine. I ended up at almost 90 hours while back then it was probably hundreds of hours. I saw the game for the first time at a friend's house my freshman or sophomore year and I was limited on game knowledge and the games I had played or access to and seeing Oblivion for the first time absolutely blew my mind. I didn't really know the concept of open world games like it. The closest thing to it being Vice City. I had played mostly Mario games and Pokemon games on Nintendo hardware and then we had Playstation's 1 & 2 and the Gamecube. During my time playing Playstation 2 it was mostly Medal of Honor/Call of Duty and Vice City. The only game even somewhat similar to Oblivion at the time I had played was Runescape so again my first time seeing Oblivion I was just blown away. I had no idea a game like it existed or could exist. It was later on for Christmas that I got my first 360 with Oblivion, but the bad news was it was the arcade version which meant it had no hard drive and I didn't have a memory card so I could play Oblivion, but couldn't save it, had to wait the next day or so to get a memory card. I didn't even know of what hard drives were back then and didn't get one for the 360 until I got the GOTY edition for Oblivion where I needed one. That time period of playing Oblivion and then learning of Fallout 3 after and playing that also were honestly probably my favorite/most enjoyable days of gaming. I did consider Oblivion to be my favorite game of all time back then and for years after and then started to go back and forth between it and Final Fantasy X.

The best part about Oblivion really is the guild questlines. It exposes how good both the roleplaying and writing are for the stories. You can stealth your way upstairs and drop something on top of a guy sitting in his chair to make your assassination look like an accident. Just some Hitman-esque shit that adds to your assassin story. Theres always a creative way to go about the missions built in as an option. Then its just a better written more memorable questline. The Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion puts Skyrim to shame as does the Thieves guild. Morrowind had branching paths to the story and less roleplaying so what Oblivion did to make up for a shorter main quest with less options is expand the side content with better stories particularly the guilds. Skyrim had hand crafted dungeons and better modding tools, but as a side effect lost some of the detail on the guild questlines and depth to roleplaying aspects. There are a ton of tradeoffs between just those three titles. If you had a game with best of all three approaches, you'd have near perfect Elder Scrolls game.

This was my first Bethesda game the main thing that stuck with me was the music. It was like I was really inside the game world the way it perfectly captured an adventure in Cyrodill. I even replaced Skyrims soundtrack with oblivion’s lol

Lol. The Emperor is Patrick Stewart. The son, Martin, is Sean Bean. Really enjoy this game. Wish it was on Switch.

Hey Matty, great video! I'm currently trying to mod out Morrowind on the Steam Deck and this video made me super happy! Also, that G Fuel ad was great! Every time an ad starts with "Hey, didn't see you there", I know I'm in for a good time!😂

Oblivion was the best RPG and arguably still is. I know it’s not perfect and the Witcher 3 eats BGS for breakfast. But. The rose tinted glasses fit nicely. I was a sophomore in 2006 when it came out. Just coming into my own (personality, confidence, friends…) and that game helped me connect with several others just on conversation. It was also during the golden era of video games. Halo 2 was out for a while, we had KoTOR, battlefront, mwf, fallout 3, and a vast library of older games to pull from. Still love and occasionally play oblivion.

Oblivion is my favorite Bethesda game. Its writing was fun and inviting. It is also deeper than games like Skyrim that are prettier but so short that going without mods leaves you empty. Is it goofy, yes. Is it clunky on occasion, yes. But it still enchants me even all these years.

Currently replaying this on my newly acquired Steam Deck. Took a bit to find a good controller layout but it runs really well and navigating the menus with the trackpad is easy. Highly recommend getting this on the Deck. I'm on holiday right now and it's perfect for when in bed

I play a breton as a warrior, they have resistance to magic which is great for warriors. It is also a little easier to level up because their warrior stats start low; if you want to go into magic they are already geared to it.

Its honestly a breath of fresh air listening to someone praise this game. Morrowind gets all the love & Skyrim gets all the attention. Oblivion, the awkward middle child just gets ignored outside of the funny random NPC dialogue. Oblivion has always been my favourite in the series. Skyrim is too open so all my characters end up playing the game. Morrowind has some truly great mechanics. But I'm racist towards the Dunmer for a reason & it by far has the dullest environment. Yes its alien & has weird bug creatures. But its all just brown & grey.

Replayed Oblivion’s main story and Shivering Isles this year, couldn’t believe how addicted I was to that world all over again! About to replay the incredible Dark brotherhood next! Skyrim really has nothing on Oblivion besides combat finishers maybe. Still the best BGS game.

Honestly i found the best way to play oblivion was to ignore levelling. The more you level, the more the enemies scale against you. I played multiple, multiple runs never going above lvl 5 or 10 and it was way more fun than the huge hp bar vs huge hp bar fights of later lvl gameplay
@zeikers
@zeikers 2 жыл бұрын
Enemies in oblivion scale to your level and are introduced that way, if you never went passed 10 that means you missed out on over half of the games enemies
@andrewg4412
@andrewg4412 2 жыл бұрын
@@zeikers the last enemy in the game comes up at what, 30? Plus enemies get scaled out, realms of oblivion become those Xiviali's and spider things and nothing else etc. After all my differently levelled runs I found 5-10 being tons of fun, and 19 being the most fun because after that you have glass and Daedric come in, bandits get silly etc etc

I, for one, LOVE the weapon/armor designs in this game so much. They all look like finished works, or finished works with rust. They aren't roughly made like in Skyrim, when it comes to Iron, and Steel; even if they did copy/paste one half of a finished asset to it's other side. WHY NO MITHRIL IN SKYRIM!?!?
