Its genius lies in the fact that when you start out it seems a bit simple and kind of repetitive but as you move on it becomes a whole lot deeper than that. The world is vast and incredibly varied and the storms are really scary. Everything works fast and seamlessly with a great gritty style. The sound effects and explosions are visceral and unashamedly violent. I love it.

One of those games that really stuck with me the last generation. I may be in the minority but this is in my top 10 of favorite games. I think the world is what really sold this game for me. It's desolate and pretty barren, but it felt incredibly immersive, and when you did find a point of interest, it just felt that much cooler. Paired with engaging car combat and driving physics that actually felt good, I highly recommend this game for anyone that has an interest in open world games. Also I'd recommend Rage 2, which a lot of the same developers from Mad Max worked on that game. A bit of a spiritual successor.

The way this game does collectibles is so good cuz it feeds into the upgrade system, just like Far Cry 3 did and Far Cry 4 perfected, the collectathon is for upgrading your existing gear not just for the sake of it, and you are not being showered in non unique random *replacement* gear. Far Cry 4 did it the best imo where you had to get the skins of animals you hunt, habitats being restricted by area which improves the pacing of the game, and then when you get the second to best level of "ammo pouches" you get a quest to hunt like the "white rhinoceros" to get the last upgrade for your ammo pouches. I really prefer this system to just collecting journal pages 1/140

Arguably, the post-apocalyptic settings that likely inspired the Mad Max movies and Wasteland / Fallout are rooted in literature. Harlan Ellison's novella "A Boy and His Dog" was published in 1969. Alan Dean Foster's short story featuring vehicular combat dates to 1971 and his "Why Johnny Can't Speed." The first Mad Max movie hit screens in 1979. Check 'em out!

Played it almost exactly a year ago and now finally downloaded it again and installed a mod that lets me toggle the HUD. Haven't started a new game yet tho. Been just driving around and enjoying the scenery. Clearing those few little hideouts that I've had left and trying to find find all the history relics. As well as doing as much roleplaying as I can. One of the things I do in the game RP-wise is taking off and on Max's gloves, gauntlets, armor, jacket and shirt in their most sensible order as well as not wearing the strongest armor or weapons at all times. I just love the vibe of this game. What I'd like to see in a sequel would be having it be less of a Ubisoft-style checklist game as I feel like it's a bit opposed to the scavenger lifestyle of that world. And speaking of scavenging; one of the things I'd want to see would be what Avalanche had originally planned for The Big Nothing, where it was meant to be procedural and you were find upgrade materials there. In general I think games should have more massive expanses of eerie nothingness.

This was one of my favorite games of the 2010s. On top of the broader "open world fatigue" that was starting to come in when this game released, there's also the factor that it was also essentially a movie tie-in game. By this point we all had a couple decades of experience telling us that movie tie-in games are always terrible. This of course is the exception, maybe the single best exception to that rule. Speaking of the movies, the first movie isn't actually post-apocalyptic. Its basically set right before the apocalypse. Where resources are starting to grow thin and wars are kicking off all over the globe over them, meanwhile at home criminals are running rampant as governments with fewer and fewer resources struggle to do anything to stop them, and even when they do manage to bring someone in a feckless justice system just lets them right back out again, and while things haven't completely fallen apart it feels like that's right on the verge of happening. Crazy... imagine living in that world!

Legitimately one of, best licensed tie-in (sort of) games ever released. And one that not NEARLY enough people played. When people debate about amazing feeling car physics...I point them towards Mad Max.

As soon as the first drop touched the guy's lips, two cars (one of them packed with explosives) came outa nowhere and decided to ram into us head on. The disappointing thing for me with Mad Max is that the survival elements never really come in to play, you basically never run out of fuel and when you upgrade the home bases enough ammo and water are refilled which I wish you had to buy instead.
@MegaMerdeux6 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's one of the flaws in the game. With the upgrades you eventually never run put of gas or water. Making the survival elements pretty pointless very quick. On one hand most of these upgrades are optional. But even without any upgrades, it's not so difficult to get gas and water.

My review is: I really, really enjoyed this game. I put a lot of time into it and played it until it was dead. The graphics are great. The story is fine. The quests are fine. The fighting is excellent. The driving is serviceable. The upgrade system was fun. Just a really solid, good game. And then, when I had beaten it to within an inch of its life, I uninstalled it, never reinstalled it, and completely forgot it existed until you just put this video up. It's not a great game, and it's not particularly memorable, but at the same time: it's a FUN and entertaining game, and I guess it's what I wanted at the time. There's nothing wrong with this game at all. If you want a 'Mad Max'-style game, play 'Mad Max'. If you don't, you're not missing out on anythinf seminal. I definitely recommend this game.
