Stellaris is an awesome game that I have listed as one of my most played games of all time. And, as someone who has quite a bit of experience in the game, I would not wish trying to get into it completely blind with no online guides, videos, or friends who know what they are doing, on my worst enemy. If you want to learn it, you either need to be ok with doing A LOT of exploration of the mechanics and experimentation on your own, or watch a couple of guides or have a friend teach you. But once you get into it and know what you are doing, there really isn't anything quite like it out there.

My advice, just enjoy it to begin with, lots to learn and many a mistakes to be had but try and learn something new every time you play. My most played games ever is Rimworld (2,416 hrs) & Stellaris (4,699 hrs). If you get into this it'll be so perfect. I have one saying to compare the two: Rimworld is just Stellaris but on the ground where you get to see the faces of individual people and their horror as you do war crimes. Stellaris is just Rimworld but in space and you get to do all the same war crimes but you do it to billions of people and declare yourself the law making your actions legal. + I love watching how beginners handle the game, it always fascinates me. Little note: Most Stellaris games tend to end somewhere in 2400. Seeing you in 2735 is insanity, I've furthest I've been is 2550. Also mods exist in Stellaris but the base game code isn't as flexible as Rimworld's so it tends to die when you cross the 100 mods mark.

I sent a force to claim the planet before he became a problem, which led to the Galactic Community getting pissed at me due to non-interference laws. This kick started a chain of diplomatic events which resulted in the 2 Main Federations (one I was part of) starting a Galactic War. That war lasted like 20-30 years and drained resources from both sides, and then the endgame crisis came. 10/10

Let alone learning the DLC content like oh my god XD Coming into this game as a new and learning this game to be decent probably takes a long time. Theres LOTS of people within MP that dont exactly know what they are doing, and yes theres still lots of sweats. I'm pretty decent at the game myself after about 1.1k hours spanning over 3-ish years. UI mods are a big help. Especially stuff like UI overhaul dynamic, Tech tiers revealed and tech tooltips (the latter is only useful if you know wtf ur doing). But yeah my point stands, it takes a while for the average user to get into. Though it's easier if you're a Paradox Player beforehand One thing to keep in mind. If you play machines, late game lag isn't anywhere near as bad, and it almost doesn't feel like cheating anymore since they nerfed the hability. (Though you can micromanage to get around it but still). If you do play machines, NEVER PICK VIRTUAL ASCENTION UNLESS YOU ONLY HAVE LIKE 5 PLANETS. I blindly picked it because I had stellaris content playing in the background and I heard someone (not sure who because most stellaris creators sound strikingly similar) talk about how amazing virtual ascension was without getting the context lol. As a new player, I strongly recommend the subscription model they have now. I have bought most of the DLC twice (I started on console) and that gave me the luxury of knowing exactly what I don't want to buy. You can get that same luxury with the subscription

Pop calculations every month is the greatest slow down in the game so I do 1 guaranteed planet per nation and .50-.75 planet modifier for amount of planets in game. Medium or large map. I generally play on Grand Admiral with x5 crisis as a default setting. Do a clone origins playthru and then dissolve the senate and create an empire XD “I am the SENATE!”. Best starwars reference any game as ever given me with a clone origin lol

honetly the biggest problem with stellaris is UI. The game isn't actually super confusing and is quite intuitive once you learn the UI. The constant popups, numbers without clear meaning and complete lack of direction as to what is important and what is not is the main issue. Small things like putting a cross next to the health of a starbase or seperating resources with a vertical line would help you distinguish what systems are relevant to what. If theres a cross or a target symbol? don't worry about it cause I'm not at war. My energy and minerals are seperated from that weird blue thing (unity) and the other stuff so my goal should probebly focus on the first two. Also make it more clear the relavence of planets to your economy. Hovering over a planet should show you it's net gain and consumption without clicking on it so you can examine your whole empire more easily. These features would go a long way to making the game more accecible and many more things could be change as well Edit: Its also not very clear what is a button and what is not. When you hover over the white starbase Icon it should darken to show that it is clickable. It took me a long time to figure out how to build ships because I didn't starbases even existed. Level 1 starbases should also be visable so it is clear you can upgrade them

Glad you ended up liking the game. Your initial assessment is fair because there is so much to the game. Thanks for sharing your experience. Montu is the GOAT. May I suggest you check out The Red King and Ep3o

Red King was on my radar already, but I thought i'd play the game first myself and then check out red king. Try and figure out as much as I can myself and then have someone explain me what I missed.

There really isnt a "GOAT" of stellaris, if there was it would probably be a modder or a developer if not the development team. Moreso I say this is that most people at the top do that through either using the "meta" or by breaking the game in ways it should not have been. Which in essence is just minmaxing and cheating XD though that is just my view

Your buddy poked a fallen empire. I recommend not doing that unless you have a martial alliance rolling.

Heyyyy first time commenting on your vide. Stellaris is one of my all time favorites along with rimworld and PZ! Stellaris can be overwhelming at first, but there are so many mechanics you can play around with! I love roleplaying the game similar to rimworld, pz, kenshi and recently Elin! Have fun

I play Stellaris since day 1 with WAY to many hours in to it.... I have seen its rise and fall.... game is almost unrecognisable form where it begun... But one thing remained exactly the same... New players shearing their experience of first war with Fallen Empire XD Not gona lie its sorta baptism that everyone is going through. One word of advice for new players... If you dont want to ruin your run when ever you will see that game gives you some sort of choice and one of the options is in red text.... DO NOT PICK RED TEXT OPTION !!!!

Played Stellaris since its release, i remember when you used to be able to chose your empires style of w space travel you could chose to use just the hyperlanes like we have now as default or a straight hyperdrive and fly to any star you wanted or jump drives man the game really was so simple and bare bones on the 1.0 version even combat was super simple you actually choose your starting weapon tech aswell lasers, coilguns or missiles and the AI would choose one and stick with it so you could counter the AI fleets easily if you knew what weapons they used and if they used shields or Armor as you didnt use both one or the other so a Fleet or armoured ships using coilguns you just ran shields with missiles as shields blocked kinetic weapons and missiles chewed through armor.

Dude for me personally, i love micromanagement games and Empire building games, have 2k hours in civ 6 and 1500 in civ 5 before that. I’m also an astronomy major i love space, so i thought this game would be literally perfect for me. And it WAS. but dawg let me tell you it took me about a month to be able to even finish a game fully before i restarted it over and over because i realized how wrong i was doing things (i hate watching tutorials so i raw dawg it) now i have 362 hours and am in love with this game.
