My best tips is to use a Jack when removing a ceiling like that. Make a t-shape out of some lumber, and use the power of the Jack to lift the ceiling . (hydralic Jack is best) Made me feel totally badass!

Love how cool and accessible you make this type of work feel. A good rule of thumb is that any penetration through a roofing assembly should be covered by flashing or membrane, hence the order of SBS over the flashing nails. If you absolutely have to penetrate the SBS directly, you can use roofing mastic to seal it, but it will need extra maintenance in the desert because of the UV and heat cycling. p.s. I'd be willing to bet the area of your overlaps is pretty close to the area of roof that was left exposed on your first roll.

Posted 3/6/22: I think what you are doing (did) is wonderful. We need to know how to fix leaky roofs; we need to know how to do basic framing; we need to know how to build our own damn beds, for pete's sake. At least today we aren't doing it with axes and two-person hand saws, and making our own pitch and charcoal! It's not all about making "pretty" spaces, because your spaces will be covered by mold and destroyed in no time if we don't have and do the basics of making sure our structures are sound and dry and cool in the summer and warm int he winter. Watching you is more entertaining than watching the current "Property Brothers." Personally, I prefer watching shows on HGTV where women contractors are doing exactly what you have been learning to do, step by step, and learning from your mistakes. Knowledge is power Rachel, never forget that.
