One of the best and my personal favorite movie of all time. I saw the 3am showing on opening day. This wasn't an opening night. This was a concert. Thousands and thousands and more coming as the sun came up exiting the theater. Amazed to silence.

Dude I just turned 35 and I still dress up like that occasionally and I don't think that is going to change even when I'm forty years old. Especially when it's something you are still very passionate about! That's why I enjoy cosplaying at conventions like Comic Con!

Every major version of The Joker has been iconic... but all in very different ways. It's one of the amazing things about that character and the actors who play (or voice) him. I grew up with reruns of the 60s Batman series, so Cesar Romero was my first Joker. Then Nicholson's in the first Tim Burton film... which was just mind blowing at the time and the first time a Batman movie really captured what I thought should be "Batman" as a whole. Then the animated series doubled down and refined on the aesthetic of the Burton films and gave us some of the most complex long form storytelling for all of these characters outside of the comics... that version of The Joker had more nuance (and consistency) than we'd ever had the chance to have before. When The Dark Knight was announced, people were absolutely livid about Ledger being chosen to be the Joker. "There's no way," they said, "that this pretty kid will be able to play a role like Nicholson did!" They were right... he didn't do it all like Nicholson, or anyone else had ever done. He made it his own. (Perhaps a little too much of his own.) And that went a long way to making this the great film that it is. I do still wish we'd gotten more of Dent and Two-Face... because that's a character that really doesn't get treated right in a lot of places and can be as interesting as The Joker, especially in relation to Batman. Oh, and also, yes, in your 30s you can definitely still dress up as Batman... but as time goes on, you need to upgrade your gear, just like Bruce does. Rock the full body armor, dude. :)

Playboy Bruce is a mask. He exists to make it look less likely he is Batman. Bruce might wear a mask, but the only time he is actually himself is as Batman. Pattenson was good as being Batman 'always' but he could have benefited from playboy Bruce because there is no way a citizen of Gotham wouldn't look at Bruce Wayne and think 'yeah that's Batman', at least when he gets more tech stuff. He still works in his film because his gear is relatively cheap looking. In Pattenson's next movie, I hope he incorporates playboy Batman because he understands now after the riddler, that he can't just beat the bad guys up and solve all of Gotham's problems, it needs hope from all angles. I think that would lead perfectly into Robin, as he adopts a kid and it helps him learn to act more in the public interest as Bruce.

Bruce's playboy side is just a facade so noone would suspect he's Batman. Never a big fan of Pattinson's emo Bruce. It makes so little difference whether he's Bruce or Batman mode. I'm surprised noone is suspicious of his identity by the end of the movie. The Batman's pacing is also a little too slow at times. As for Nolan's Batman, I think Bale's Batman voice can be a bit much at times causing some intentional laughs. There are so many skits out there making fun of that voice. Michael Keaton or even Pattinson doesn't have to do much to their voice and comes off a lot more natural.

Debo saved the innocents on the boat... perfection (if he hasn't watched "Friday", that should be on his list). But this movie is STILL terrific. Such a great distillation of The Long Halloween & other comics into an action crime thriller. Any time it's on TV & I can catch it, best believe I'm watching it. In seeing this review, I need to get back to playing Arkham Knight. And I love that the Nolans & Goyer finally gave Batman his white eye lenses from the comic in this movie.

For some reason, just because the movie doesn't acknowledge it, fans just believe Batman isn't a killer in this trilogy. This version of Batman is just as bad as Ben Affleck's Batman, killing wise. DK Trilogy Bats killed so many people, but because he says not killing is his one rule and saved Joker, fans just ignore what happened in the previous film and forget what they just watched in this film. I love these movies, but fans have to stop spreading the lie of how close this Batman is to the no killing rule, because in reality, it's only in Rises where he has it.

I rewatched this film last year with an open mind and I like the plot but there were a couple of things I didn't care for. First, Joker says one of the dumbest lines ever in the beginning which was, "I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you stranger"... really stupid stuff. Then there's Two Face. They made Harvey Dent look good but when he became Two Face, there was no Two Face there. He was just a complete crybaby.
@ColombianThunder

What's so stupid about that line to you? I think it works as a tongue-in-cheek subversion of the common phrase.

@@ColombianThunder it's completely stupid. It makes no sense at all. The movie tries to spread philosophy which is fine but then opens up with one of the dumbest lines in edgelord history.
@ColombianThunder
@ColombianThunder 2 ай бұрын
@@drewskiee9254 hmmm. Yeah I don't agree. Sure, it's edgy, but the Joker himself is also edgy and pretty theatrical, intentionally so. As far as it not making sense, I don't think it makes any less sense that the original phrase, "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." The subversion, especially coming from the Joker's mouth, is fitting. The original phrase is about becoming mentally stronger after overcoming something difficult. In the joker's case, his trauma only made him worse and a weirder person, thus, stranger. It's also thematic in the ideas of losing one's self. The joker IS a stranger. We don't even know his history. Whatever happened to him made him a stranger to the world. The same with Batman, whose obsession with stopping crime after his parents' death has made him estranged from who he originally was as Bruce Wayne. Not to mention that the idea of dressing up as a bat to fight crime is in itself HIGHLY strange behavior. I think it works.
