Everyone's telling you to sign the lease but gotta remember that winter in NYC is kind of depressing, especially when you're far away from family. It's cold, dark and the streets are an icy slushy mess, which really sucks when you have to walk everywhere. The winter blues are a legit thing and you seem to really thrive when you're outdoors in the sun. I guess worst case scenario, you could escape to Palm Springs for some sun if you need to.

I think you should come to Boston. One of the best cities in the country with one of the best waterfronts. You'd love Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, as Nantucket as well. So much better and cleaner than NYC. And if you do go to NYC at least do some day trips to Boston which is about 4 hours away.

Interesting, wow prices going up and good lighting is a scarcity there. It is kind of hard to justify if you have no strong reason to be there... I've tried living in NYC twice, bailed out twice. Nowadays, I would just live in that first hotel and find a cafe to chill at. It might come out cheaper with more travel flexibility. stuff like schoolzones & raising family also worth considering eventually..

I love in Europe and had always wanted to live in Paris. Through work I had an opportunity to work and live there and so I did. It wasn't 100% a bad experience and there were lots of things I liked. I no longer live there but am so glad that I tried it because I would always have wondered; "What if?" . All that to say, go for it. If you try living there you'll know what it's like and could really enjoy it.

A friend of mine lived in the building of the last studio unit you saw and loved living there. They only left last year to move to the Upper West Side to be closer to her job. The rooftop is really nice and is even open in the winter. The cool building across from it is a condo building they just finished. I hope you come to New York, it is so much fun and there is so much opportunity here, It will be hard if you plan to move right before the winter but it is still amazing and the summer and fall make it all worth it.

I’m a real estate agent in NYC, I would suggest looking at 70 Pine St in Fidi. It’s an older building but you get tons of space and light, and the building has a Michelin star restaurant in the building.

The great thing about New York is being able to get around without a car. That is definitely a big plus even though the rent is so high. You get more time to do what you need to do. Less stuck in traffic. Definitely go for a place with enough light.

Not to rain on your parade at all Shelby, but from someone who's lived most of her 61 years in the Ottawa Canada region (not that far from NYC) I can say that SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is real between November and the end of February. November is the most cloudy month usually. The sun rises about 8 am and by 5 pm you need lights on in house as the sun is setting or gone already. For someone like yourself that loves natural light I'm just worried that those months of November, December, January and February won't be bright enough for you generally speaking. And it gets damn cold with cold Canadian air sweeping down into NY state and New England. But it seems you have your heart set on NYC. Best of luck. Traffic is super bad around JFK because of the ongoing construction of the new Terminal 1. You should try doing taxi next time - there’s a flat rate to Manhattan and the line moves quickly. Pair and pay with the curb app makes it super seamless too.

trick I do every time I travel international is to give a few hours the day after you arrive to sleep in. I try to stay up as late as possible then sleep in to even as late as 11 am and I am set to the time zone by day 2. Forcing yourself to wake up just leaves you groggy for days

I personally don’t watch your main channel vids anymore. I haven’t found them interesting in a long time, and based on the views I think most of your subs agree with that sentiment. I’m not saying this to be mean, but perhaps one way to become more motivated to make content and make content more subs want to watch would be to move to NY. There’s only so many California real estate and Tesla/electronics videos I can watch before getting bored. If you moved, you could have “moving to NYC vlogs, lots of videos trying new things and going new places. Hey Shelby, I've learnt Life is a balance. We can be just as enriched by experiences & people in life as our bank accounts. We are all different though and have different priorities. Something keeps pulling you to NY, like you said, it's also easier for travel for Sam. Your experience there would be what you make it, some people need close friends, sometimes company & seeing people each day is sufficient. I'm sure you wouldn't have difficulty meeting people. From what you have said, I think you'll end up settling in Cali at some point, now you have the freedom & option to go to NY. If you think the NY weather won't be too gloomy for you as a sun girly & you find the right apartment, go for it. I'm sure you'll make many happy memories.

I vote NYC. It’s expensive but worth it to try it out for 6 months or a year! More than likely you’re gonna settle down and live in CA again long term since that’s where your family is, so you’ve got the whole rest of your life to live there! Trying something new is scary, but the fact that your heart and mind keeps pulling you over there means something. Don’t ignore it! You keep trying to logic yourself out of something your heart already knows! 6 months of increased spending for a once in a lifetime experience. If you already got your stocks on dividend reinvestment plan, you’re really not losing much at all in the long term.

Definitely pick an apartment you love, don't make much of a compromise as you might regret it later. I'd definitely go for a one bedroom not a studio. Take advantage of being young and unencumbered. This won't put you into debt so don't let money stop you. You can always make more money, but you will never get more time. You will create wonderful memories and it will be great inspiration for your videos. Odds are you will end up living closer to your family eventually, so enjoy this time when they are all healthy and you have time to experience new places and have adventures.
