I 100% agree. I think the content has been mostly done since Leth's delay announcement. The ports and bug fixing just took longer than expected. I think we will 100% get news from TC by the end of the year and my copium answer is that the game will release this year

Yeah, I’m placing my bets on the port theory. When Primacon made his video talking about how it wouldn’t make sense for them to still be adding new things to the game when they planned on releasing it in 2023, I realized how logical that was, and I wish I would’ve considered the ports before. Wanting to do a simultaneous release on all platforms is definitely a big undertaking, especially now that we technically have 5 consoles instead of the usual 3, with last gen still hanging around. (Boy has the 9th generation felt underwhelming.)

To add to that a similar situation was the recent stardew update. Developer of 1 and he only put the update to PC first because putting it on everything at once is a huge hassle

To add on to this. Leth said in an interview in 2021 that he doesn't play the game until it is close to finished so he can give feedback on the whole game. He said in Blue's interview that he was just starting his second play through. At this point, with the age ratings and xbox store page opening up for the game, I don't think content is being added and they are play testing and fixing bugs/glitches.

Good video, however I disagree that ALL of the DLCs were meant to be in Hollow Knight from the start. Probably Lifeblood, and maybe Hidden Dreams, but I doubt the Grimm Troupe and Godmaster were always gonna be in the game. Especially Grimm Troupe, which is not only really disconnected, but was also released around Halloween, which makes me think it was just a fun dlc for Halloween.

I truly think the wait will be worth it. Seeing the trailer with all the new movement, areas, and enemies was enough to convince me I’ll wait as long as I need to. I really want Silksong to be amazing and I’m sure Team Cherry wants the same. Obviously, it has been a while so it makes sense everyone is anticipating the release, but once it comes out hopefully everyone will see all the work put into the game

Release date will be announced at X. Two weeks later the game is out. One week later World War 3 starts. So you just need to work out when is WW3. And you have about one week to finish the game.

Releasing to multiple platforms at once and thoroughly testing things so everything runs well at launch are definitely good guesses for any delays. It's hard to say either way about extra content packs being a factor though. They've probably done some discussion or planning about it but I think it'd be preferable for them to just focus on polishing the base game. Do we know if Shark Jump Studios is helping Team Cherry port Silksong to consoles?

Oh, I only mentioned Hollow Knight's content packs as a way of visualising the total size of Silksong, not because I think they're considering making content packs for Silksong. I'd always assumed that Team Cherry are doing all the ports themselves this time round. I don't believe they've definitively said whether or not Shark Jump are helping out though.

I think that the theory of delay due to porting to different consoles is the most true and real. But about the release... I'm a skeptic, so I think silksong will be released in the first half of 2025. Well, as for the news before the June broadcasts, I do not think that they will appear, as they will not be at other events this summer, and we will be able to get at least some information only in late autumn-winter. Sorry for my English, not a native speaker.

is anyone able to explain why porting a game is difficult and time consuming? In my head I imagine all of the code would be the same, just copying and pasting it or something lol, and getting a different input source through different controller types. But i’m sure this is definitely not the case

I think there are some unique code for each consoles. That's why they have a Dev Kit. Also they have to optimize the game to fit to each consoles. But Idk, that's just my guess.

It’s mainly due to the hardware that most pcs utilize versus the hardware that consoles use. Sometimes, developers like to utilize little benefits of certain hardware to optimize performance. As you know, consoles differ from pcs in hardware, therefore they cannot utilize these benefits (that might not exist for consoles) for optimization. This is one of many reasons why it takes longer for ports. Another, as said above, is that sometimes developers use software that is difficult to translate over from pc to console. Additionally, consoles do not run as well as regular pcs do, such that they need to do extra optimization such that it runs just as well as on pcs.

hardware and performance can vary massively, getting a game to run smoothly is probably much easier on a ps5 than a switch since its much more powerful and so you can be a bit lazier with optimisation. even once you've built the game for different platforms you then have to test them and fix that, which could take forever considering theres what, 5? different platforms theyre releasing on

The polish and bug testing was given as the stage the game was in by the community in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, I was there for all of it and we’ve always been sure it’s just around the corner. I’ve actually seen this video nearly beat for beat by channels which have since deactivated, it’s been so long that this point has been presented. So no we’re probably not in a polishing period right now; it’s more likely there’s something going on behind the scene or the scope of the game is being expanded

guys I have a question: can I buy SilkSong upon release on Switch or is it better to wait until I have a PC because I have Hollow Knight on Switch because I don't have a PC but I just got all the achievements but now i think it would have been better if i had waited until i got a pc because i am under 18 years old. Personally, I'm going to be playing Silksong on Switch. It's hard to tell right now if the Switch version will be any worse than the other versions of the game (either graphically or performance). I don't imagine there would be that much difference between a PC version and the Switch though, apart from modding support. Buying / building a whole PC just for modding support in a single game seems a bit expensive, but I suppose it depends how much you want mods.

Sure, launch the game when its done and ready, but people can and will run out of patience.
