I love the parents’ nickname for their daughter; Hazelnut (and the one her older brother gave her; Small-Fry). That’s just so cute. And I also like the fact that Hazel’s parents are NOT neglectful, brain-dead morons who are constantly going on about how happy they would be if they didn’t have kids, and … they also have actual names. Seriously, fuck Mr and Mrs Turner. But in all honesty, one thing that this reboot has over the original series is that most of the adults at the very are trying least to be helpful and benevolent compared to the original where those adults would range from being useless at best to unfunny at worst. Now, while her parents being loving and supportive of their daughter does kinda defeat the purpose of Hazel receiving fairies, on the other hand Mr and Mrs Turner got so unfunny as time went on, so really, I can give it a pass in that regard.

I agree with you on that!😊 As children, we don’t see anything wrong with cartoon adults, but we understand what they’re actually like when we grow older. I think the grown-ups are generally better written here than in the original FOP (especially in later seasons, where many of the characters became more idiotic). Although there still are a few meaner/more antagonistic adult characters in A New Wish such as Dale Dimmadome and Principal Krentz.
@melissamurray83073 ай бұрын
The problem with that it kind of defeats the purpose of having fairies in the first place.
@GutsyViceroy3 ай бұрын
I think the point of the useless adults was to put the audience in Timmy's mindset. Whether or not it's entirely true, children can often view adults as controlling and non-understanding. Kids often feel smarter than adults and don't understand why adults do the things they do. The show is just capturing that feeling of being a misunderstood kid. This is why Timmy can lead a miserable life without it being straight up abusive. The show's concept falls apart if the main character feels loved and supported by their family/friends. And besides, some children do grow up surrounded by uncaring and unattentive adults.

Another thing I enjoy about New Wish is the dynamic between Cosmo and Wanda, it's just like how they were BEFORE any of the seasonal rot. So, Cosmo and Wanda have been retired for 10,000 years (well, technically about one or two years in real life after the worthless live-action sitcom that ultimately went nowhere), and have been travelling through time. Their dynamic seems to be more playful and fun, and they are ... fully happy together- no hints of their previous toxicity anywhere to be found. Their retirement plays a HUGE role in this, and it's not a coincidence that they seemed to have retired right after Timmy (or the main character from the live-action sitcom, whatever her name was). Just as a friendly reminder; it's apparently canon that Cosmo and Wanda were frozen in time with Timmy for FIFTY YEARS, and were shackled to his eventual selfish antics much longer than the average godchild DESERVES. But I honestly think that a bigger role in their healing was the time travel. Remember in Father Time on how they ran into their past selves? Well, I think that they were able to get to this point after going back and reflecting on WHEN exactly their resentment started, and what they have to work on moving forward. I think Hazel is also a decent main character and what Chloe SHOULD have been. She has a pretty hard time adjusting to the city life, and she is able to get into shenanigans without coming off as too malicious, which was obviously the direction that Timmy went in. Cosmo and Wanda were SO excited and emotional to be fairy godparents again, and as they looked into each other's eyes, I can only assume they were acknowledging how far they had come. I love how they live in a house in fairy world that can also be used as a door portal to Earth, and how they reveal back in the Timmy days they felt too confined and needed freedom from him, which they now have. Does that not sound like a couple that has unpacked a lot in therapy? Because again, they are not married for thousands of years, they have also been co-workers for thousands of years. The way they write Wanda here is also not uptight at all, her concern comes from a place of care instead of anger or disappointment, and her moments on screen don't make me feel drained or sorry for her in the slightest. She is written with humour and fun in mind rather than this misogynistic lens that the original series leaned into for whatever reason.

I’m just happy that they got Infinity Train writers (Lindsay Katai and Alexander Horab) to make this series, because they know how to fuse whimsy into real-life situations. Plus, having the tone be more friendly compared to the original’s mean-spiritedness was a great choice, as it helps the kids relate to Hazel’s situation more compared to Timmy’s where he could be as just as mean as the adults he hates. I would love to see a Danny Phantom reboot with them at the helm, because they’ve done really well with similar stuff in Infinity Train.

@Legoguy98755 ай бұрын
Willing to guess that they're keeping it simple for this first season because they want to prove that they can do Fairy OddParents justice to the existing fanbase - after the last few seasons of the OG show, the live action movies, and the previous reboot were such massive downgrades, I definitely understand the pressure of wanting to do the IP correctly. Of course, budget is also a contributing factor, so hopefully if this show continues, Nick gives them a higher budget to do grander things and elevate it to the standards of the OG show in its prime.

I imagine the team is trying to be very careful while also trying to draw in an audience on a shit budget. Obviously tons of effort went into this. Doing a very quick google search, there were some interviews saying they were on an extremely tight budget. So it seems you had a team that REALLY wanted to put a good show out there, but they had very little money to do so. I imagine skipping the rules was because they know you know and want to get to the content. The budget probably effected the props as well considering the interview mentioned that they were counting each prop and closing watching the budget when they made them. I think the goal is to put something both old fans and new can enjoy and hopefully getting enough traction for future seasons to be picked up instead of being a one and done deal. Maybe they will get a bigger budget in the future if this does well and we can do more bigger and exciting things with the story. I think this show has great potential, and it feels like there are some old fans now writing for it, so I wish them the best. Better than the hot shit we've had for basically the past 10-15 years now.

To be perfectly honest, I like how Cosmo and Wanda have seemingly moved on from Timmy. Exploring what wishes OTHER kids would make of Cosmo and Wanda were their fairies is still an obvious but intriguing foundation for new ideas and stories. But, whenever this has been tried in the past, it has ALWAYS been tethered to the original main character. I think taking Timmy out of the picture (at least for the time being) was definitely the right move to make this reboot stick out. And while Hazel does start off as a “weak” protagonist, I do not entirely hate her. But Timmy on the other hand feels like an … outdated protagonist from a different time that would NOT work by today’s standards. But, what I’m trying to say is that I don’t want or need my new main protagonist to be abused in the same way that Timmy did. What works about this reboot is that it seems mindful of what failed with newer iterations of the original series that ultimately went nowhere, while still delivering a fairly oddparents that feels modern and can be enjoyed by new fans and old fans. It makes it feel refreshing to watch a new version of the show where absolutely nobody is defined by their stupidity after about 15 years of that trait being cranked up to 11.

So if they're saying that a black character getting a lead role (or even just a supporting role) in something is "woke", you can decipher what they *really* want to complain about, but are too cowardly to do so. Rinse and repeat with female and LBGTQ+ characters too.

It’s cute that they’re referencing Timmy, and the cameo of Poof was nice, one thing I hope to see is references/cameos of Sparky and Chloe, yeah they’re not popular but considering they’re willing to reference Cosmo and Wanda’s past constantly it would be appreciated if they referenced their entire past. If they ever do bring these four characters back for an episode this is how I would envision it: - Hazel would be excited to see her brother who’s coming to visit from college and on that same day Poof comes by to visit his parents from fairy school and trouble ensues because where ever Poof is Foop is not far behind trying to destroy him. -Sparky could be introduced to Hazel because of either a fairy celebration that happens to be hosting the stunt team he joined or that Hazel is throwing her first ever party and she wishes for the best entertainment in existence which happens to be Sparky. -Hazel and her class go to visit the biggest environmentally friendly toy company in the world (which is also known for its charity work), the whole time Cosmo and Wanda are panicking about being seen, later it would be revealed that the owners of the company are Timmy and Chloe, who were not only Cosmo and Wanda’s longest running godkids, they’re also the reason Da Rules are as strict as they are now, and the two are worried that if they see them they’ll remember having fairies which will have them taken away from Hazel; Hazel decides to ask them a few questions mainly why they’re friends and partners despite being so different and they reveal to her that they don’t know why just that they always feel happy when together, like there was something magical about their friendship despite their many differences (which assures and actually comforts Cosmo and Wanda) later once Hazel leaves it’s revealed that they fully remember their time with Cosmo and Wanda and are happy that they have a new godkid they love. I don’t expect any of these stories to actually happen but it would be fun if something along these lines were to happen in the new show.

Honestly I quite like this series and I’m glad that you enjoyed it too. I can agree with some of the critiques and I do think they probably should up the stakes just a bit. Also surprisingly, I can actually quite relate to Hazel. Growing up, my big brother was basically my best friend and I’d hang out with him a lot since I didn’t have a lot of friends much. When he eventually started college and got a girlfriend who he soon moved in with and married, it felt like he had his own life now and I was no longer in it. But like Hazel, I realized he’ll always come back to see me and that he needs to have his own life to experience the wonders of it.

One of the producers mentioned how Timmy's problems were more external while Hazel's is internal. That she is more emotionally aware and dealing with self confidence and identify. I'm very excited with what a new wish will do in future eps, but with whats out so far it is very solid! It's very nice to see that other people are enjoying it as well,

While it is debatable whether or not Hazel truly DESERVES fairies, I don’t need my main character to be abused all the time in order to be miserable. Plus, the original said there are tons of reasons why a child could receive fairies. So, I’ve been making observations about Hazel during the first few episodes BEOFRE Poof was reintroduced as Peri, and I think I’ve come up with the reason as to why, even though it has not been confirmed; Hazel has autism (or at the very least, shows autistic tendencies). Really stop and think about it; 1. Hazel was having a hard time dealing with the new big change in her life 2. She has trouble communicating exactly what she wants sometimes 3. And initially had a difficult time relating to other kids and thought she would get along better with her teachers before making her own friends 4. Cosmo and Wanda are commonly disguised as fidget toys on her backpack Now, my best guess is that Hazel’s parents never stopped to consider the possibility that their daughter is on the spectrum. And that is why Hazel needs Cosmo and Wanda; she needs someone to help make her voice heard. The parents do indeed love their daughter, but they don’t truly understand her, and that is what Cosmo and Wanda are there for. Look, I know this might not be the best reason to be given fairies, but in Hazel’s case, at least it’s a better reason in comparison to Chloe or Whatshername from the live action sitcom.

As a black man who’s researched as far as he could, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is the only GOOD black kids show now. The really sad part is that there’s barely any good black kids shows running right now. I’m sure there’s some I haven’t heard of. But then you look at shows from the big three networks. Young Dylan sucks, That Girl Lay Lay sucks, even The Proud Family reboot sucks now. All three networks have been sabotaging practically every show that isn’t a spin-off, sequel series or reboot for like the past 5 years now. This unfortunately includes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. And who knows if that show will get a third season. Raven’s Home, Craig of the Creek and the latter show’s spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World are all over now. Iyanu: Child of Wonder which we’ve waited for almost two years was just announced to be delayed to 2025!
