@Chivecookies_domain4 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure the episode where Timmy lets Tootie have his fairies temporarily explains it. She almost reveals that she had fairies near the end of the episode and would've revealed them had Timmy not interefered And since Da Rules say that revealing your fairies leads you to losing them and all your memories, who's to say that she may have had fairies before but lost them because of exactly that But that's just a theory- I shall see myself out

It’s also too bad that the last time tootie was plot relevant she was beating the ever-loving shit out of timmy with a fucking oar just to give him cpr. And given just how hated that episode was, it makes more sense why they stopped using tootie altogether. She might have been just as miserable before that, but she doesn’t deserve to share timmy’s fairies after that performance. Seriously, if I were timmy, I know that I wouldn’t want to share my fairies with a someone who caused me serious harm just to give me cpr, and is really just a creepy little stalker. So if they're saying that a black character getting a lead role (or even just a supporting role) in something is "woke", you can decipher what they *really* want to complain about, but are too cowardly to do so. Rinse and repeat with female and LBGTQ+ characters too.

Another thing I enjoy about New Wish is the dynamic between Cosmo and Wanda, it's just like how they were BEFORE any of the seasonal rot. So, Cosmo and Wanda have been retired for 10,000 years (well, technically about one or two years in real life after the worthless live-action sitcom that ultimately went nowhere), and have been travelling through time. Their dynamic seems to be more playful and fun, and they are ... fully happy together- no hints of their previous toxicity anywhere to be found. Their retirement plays a HUGE role in this, and it's not a coincidence that they seemed to have retired right after Timmy (or the main character from the live-action sitcom, whatever her name was). Just as a friendly reminder; it's apparently canon that Cosmo and Wanda were frozen in time with Timmy for FIFTY YEARS, and were shackled to his eventual selfish antics much longer than the average godchild DESERVES. But I honestly think that a bigger role in their healing was the time travel. Remember in Father Time on how they ran into their past selves? Well, I think that they were able to get to this point after going back and reflecting on WHEN exactly their resentment started, and what they have to work on moving forward. I think Hazel is also a decent main character and what Chloe SHOULD have been. She has a pretty hard time adjusting to the city life, and she is able to get into shenanigans without coming off as too malicious, which was obviously the direction that Timmy went in. Cosmo and Wanda were SO excited and emotional to be fairy godparents again, and as they looked into each other's eyes, I can only assume they were acknowledging how far they had come. I love how they live in a house in fairy world that can also be used as a door portal to Earth, and how they reveal back in the Timmy days they felt too confined and needed freedom from him, which they now have. Does that not sound like a couple that has unpacked a lot in therapy? Because again, they are not married for thousands of years, they have also been co-workers for thousands of years. The way they write Wanda here is also not uptight at all, her concern comes from a place of care instead of anger or disappointment, and her moments on screen don't make me feel drained or sorry for her in the slightest. She is written with humour and fun in mind rather than this misogynistic lens that the original series leaned into for whatever reason.

I don’t mind this kind of race swapping because it’s not really race swapping. They’re not changing Timmy’s race, they’re making a whole new character. They’re doing what Spider-verse does with Miles Morales.

Yeah I agree. It's an entire new character in a series that lends itself to the possibilities of other main characters. It's not hard to believe that they'd move on to a new God kid since Timmy has grown up and the race wouldn't matter so it's not like Velma

Honestly, a reboot of a show that's literally decades old is about the perfect analogy for current Nickelodeon. Not a single fresh idea do they have. It's all the sponge or other franchises they've had and are successful. Lather rinse repeat.
@maxmeidl4909Ай бұрын
To be perfectly honest, I like how Cosmo and Wanda have seemingly moved on from Timmy. Exploring what wishes OTHER kids would make of Cosmo and Wanda were their fairies is still an obvious but intriguing foundation for new ideas and stories. But, whenever this has been tried in the past, it has ALWAYS been tethered to the original main character. I think taking Timmy out of the picture (at least for the time being) was definitely the right move to make this reboot stick out. And while Hazel does start off as a “weak” protagonist, I do not entirely hate her. But Timmy on the other hand feels like an … outdated protagonist from a different time that would NOT work by today’s standards. But, what I’m trying to say is that I don’t want or need my new main protagonist to be abused in the same way that Timmy did. What works about this reboot is that it seems mindful of what failed with newer iterations of the original series that ultimately went nowhere, while still delivering a fairly oddparents that feels modern and can be enjoyed by new fans and old fans. It makes it feel refreshing to watch a new version of the show where absolutely nobody is defined by their stupidity after about 15 years of that trait being cranked up to 11.

Willing to guess that they're keeping it simple for this first season because they want to prove that they can do Fairy OddParents justice to the existing fanbase - after the last few seasons of the OG show, the live action movies, and the previous reboot were such massive downgrades, I definitely understand the pressure of wanting to do the IP correctly. Of course, budget is also a contributing factor, so hopefully if this show continues, Nick gives them a higher budget to do grander things and elevate it to the standards of the OG show in its prime.

As a black man who’s researched as far as he could, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is the only GOOD black kids show now. The really sad part is that there’s barely any good black kids shows running right now. I’m sure there’s some I haven’t heard of. But then you look at shows from the big three networks. Young Dylan sucks, That Girl Lay Lay sucks, even The Proud Family reboot sucks now. All three networks have been sabotaging practically every show that isn’t a spin-off, sequel series or reboot for like the past 5 years now. This unfortunately includes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. And who knows if that show will get a third season. Raven’s Home, Craig of the Creek and the latter show’s spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World are all over now. Iyanu: Child of Wonder which we’ve waited for almost two years was just announced to be delayed to 2025! The best we can hope for is that A New Wish stays consistent with their quality moving forward. A modern Fairly OddParents show. Who’d have thunk?

While it is debatable whether or not Hazel truly DESERVES fairies, I don’t need my main character to be abused all the time in order to be miserable. Plus, the original said there are tons of reasons why a child could receive fairies. So, I’ve been making observations about Hazel during the first few episodes BEOFRE Poof was reintroduced as Peri, and I think I’ve come up with the reason as to why, even though it has not been confirmed; Hazel has autism (or at the very least, shows autistic tendencies). Really stop and think about it; 1. Hazel was having a hard time dealing with the new big change in her life 2. She has trouble communicating exactly what she wants sometimes 3. And initially had a difficult time relating to other kids and thought she would get along better with her teachers before making her own friends 4. Cosmo and Wanda are commonly disguised as fidget toys on her backpack Now, my best guess is that Hazel’s parents never stopped to consider the possibility that their daughter is on the spectrum. And that is why Hazel needs Cosmo and Wanda; she needs someone to help make her voice heard. The parents do indeed love their daughter, but they don’t truly understand her, and that is what Cosmo and Wanda are there for. Look, I know this might not be the best reason to be given fairies, but in Hazel’s case, at least it’s a better reason in comparison to Chloe or Whatshername from the live action sitcom.

got one thing to say though, thank fucking god it hasn't assimilated the same art style the other 3000 modern cartoons have. I'm getting tired of that. It looks good and new and hell, even makes it look a bit more expensive even though it's probably actually fairly simple to produce with the tools they have.

I imagine the team is trying to be very careful while also trying to draw in an audience on a shit budget. Obviously tons of effort went into this. Doing a very quick google search, there were some interviews saying they were on an extremely tight budget. So it seems you had a team that REALLY wanted to put a good show out there, but they had very little money to do so. I imagine skipping the rules was because they know you know and want to get to the content. The budget probably effected the props as well considering the interview mentioned that they were counting each prop and closing watching the budget when they made them. I think the goal is to put something both old fans and new can enjoy and hopefully getting enough traction for future seasons to be picked up instead of being a one and done deal. Maybe they will get a bigger budget in the future if this does well and we can do more bigger and exciting things with the story. I think this show has great potential, and it feels like there are some old fans now writing for it, so I wish them the best. Better than the hot shit we've had for basically the past 10-15 years now.

I think it'd be cool if the wishes got more crazy as Hazel settled in and got more confident with it all. She seems like a more anxious character, to which I can relate, so i'd appreciate it if the intro was established as her testing the waters.

I love where they’re taking Hazel! I had such bad social anxiety growing up and I think it would have meant a lot if I say a main character who was a bit more like me. The wishing to be friends with teachers things honestly reminds me of how it was easy for me to answer questions in class but not to talk to kids at lunch or recess. It’s also just a type of character you rarely see take the main role of a cartoon which is nice.

Honestly, Being CG was probably an economical choice. I know that seems wild considering some of the problems you've complained about particularly with the limitations of what they can model, but the other side of that coin is that once you have the models they are infinitely reusable (such as the fidget toys). Also, You could have certain objects the new kid just has and retexture them to cosmo and wanda-ify them, meaning there's a lot more potential for them to explore there. 2D Frame by frame animation is quite expensive and time consuming to produce. It was then and it is still a major hassle now. WARNING: I AM EXPLAINING THE DECISION, NOT JUSTIFYING IT HERE. In the eyes of a television network, making a show with reusable assets is a no brainer because even though aquiring those assets can be expensive, the ability to reuse them over and over again like the locations and props means new assets will essentially pay for themselves. You say that "2D has no limit other than what you can draw" But also forget that the thief and the cobbler still isn't done after 70 years of production hell. Budget and time constraints especially for television animation apply. This decision was probably made to try and re use the shaders and texture stuff they created for Camp Koral with an appealing fusion of 2D and 3D animation, Which FROM A PURELY BUSINESS AND NOT ARTISTIC PERSPECTIVE Was an incredibly smart move.

Honestly I quite like this series and I’m glad that you enjoyed it too. I can agree with some of the critiques and I do think they probably should up the stakes just a bit. Also surprisingly, I can actually quite relate to Hazel. Growing up, my big brother was basically my best friend and I’d hang out with him a lot since I didn’t have a lot of friends much. When he eventually started college and got a girlfriend who he soon moved in with and married, it felt like he had his own life now and I was no longer in it. But like Hazel, I realized he’ll always come back to see me and that he needs to have his own life to experience the wonders of it.

I can’t be the only one who’s really not been digging the dimmer lighting in almost every recent 3D-CGI show… In daytime there’s just too many buildings where it feels like no lights are on and any/all lighting feels like it’s coming exclusively from the daylight passing through windows (the most egregious examples being Camp Coral and the Rugrats reboot)

I finish watching The Fairly Oddparents New Wish. And it was amazing. I like the new character Hazel. She's kind, fair, smart and fun to be around. And I like that she good wishes unlike Timmy who makes irresponsible wishes. At first Hazel was alone and afraid of change. But with help of Wanda and Cosmo she was able accept change and made new friends. I can't wait see the new series have in store.

ive only seen one clip of the show so far, i love the direction they decided to take on how the parents are emotionally absent despite thinking they've totally nailing the whole parenting thing. its not as comically exaggerated as timmy's parents being absolutely horrendous and patting themselves on the back thinking otherwise, but its still cartoonish in delivery and excellently justifies why Hazel deserves fairies one thing i may need to get used to though is the rim lighting. i get why they're doing it, so character silhouettes pop like they do with og FOP's bold character outlines, buuut its just throwong me off man. enough so that i might never get over it lol, but we'll see

i honestly equally love both the new and og series. They're adding something new with some familiarity,, but you can also see some of the differences in the two. I appreciate what they did with Hazel to make her different from Timmy. There was a interview article that I read about Hazel's and Timmy's personalities / personal problems. One of the producers mentioned how Timmy's problems were more external while Hazel's is internal. That she is more emotionally aware and dealing with self confidence and identify. I'm very excited with what a new wish will do in future eps, but with whats out so far it is very solid! It's very nice to see that other people are enjoying it as well,

11:19 I kinda figured since this series is a sequel of sorts, we'd get small references to Timmy ranging from "was that him?" fakeouts to hints of what he's currently up to without showing him to even old characters slowly appearing until we get a story where Hazel eventually meets him down the line. (I'm curious if he's the reason Cosmo and Wanda decided to spend their retirement on Earth as disguised humans. That, and if he does retain his memories but chose to be more independent from them. While keeping in contact.)
