Hello from Pennsylvania. Very nice video with lots of color and history added in. I enjoyed seeing the locomotives and the various locations. I also enjoyed seeing the rounded nosed locomotives which I’d guess were built by GM EMD or a licensee which closely resemble our F-series locomotives. That was the locomotive model which almost singlehandedly drove steam off the American railroads. Ours were all single-ended. Double-ended freight locomotives were and are virtually unknown in North America. The F-series units all gone now here except for a very few preserved or on tiny short-lines. Thank you for the interesting video. Fun to watch. I also love all the dual gauge trackage. Must be a nightmare to manage. Stay Well. CAS.

That's the Victorian Railways B class loco. A licence built version of the EMD F7 to an order of 26 locos. Victorian Railways specified it with cabs at each end, as they would mostly run solo, and the dual cabs eliminated having to turn the loco at the end of a trip. Vic Rail also specified 3 axle 6 motor traction bogies (trucks) to lighten the axle load for Australian Railways. Much of the trackage at the time was 80, or 94lb/yard rail. The engines were the EMD Rootes blown 16/567 1500hp. Like in the US, the B class knocked off many almost new steam locos from the premier passenger, and goods trains. The third loco delivered: B62 ran up it's first million miles very quickly, and became the first million mile loco. The dual gauge track is a fix for the 'break of gauge' problems, and also happened during the construction of the B class. They were built in New South Wales. On the delivery trip, they ran on the NSW standard gauge 4 foot 8 1/2 inches track to Albury, on the Victorian Border. The first wagon behind the loco carried the broad gauge 5 foot 3 inch traction bogies for the loco to use on the Victorian network. The bogies were swapped over at Bandiana: a small town and Army depot near Albury. The loco continued to Melbourne, and the formal handover ceremony. The B class worked for their delivery trips - hauling goods trains. I'm guessing the standard gauge bogies were then returned to the manufactures in New South Wales, for use on the next loco to be delivered. A number of B class have survived. They are a fan favourite.

I think T413 was used in Geelong (Fyansford) years ago by the Geelong Cement Works A.P.C.L. (Australian Portland Cement Limited) Brendan.

I was quite fortunate to see X31 in VR when it passed my school on the 9476 maryvale paper train and i think that A60 is going to be painted into VR because that is what everyone else is saying but as always great video.

Great video & extremely educational. Chatting with Big Dave the other day, once the remaining Murray Basin Lines are converted to SG including the Geelong to Ballarat line, all those preservation groups with BG loco's & rolling stock are going to be limited where they can go. Real shame about that, what's your thoughts about it.

At a guess either T369 or T385 as both locos had the WCR blue livery

As a train lover myself I'm interested in other opinions about this, what's your view on the inland railway? and incidentally, Australian High speed rail.
@Schony7474 жыл бұрын
High speed rail is a pipe dream. Nothing will happen for years at all. The inland rail on the other hand is something that is needed in my opinion. Direct route is good while freeing up paths on the East Coast.

15:08 is that SSR a Ex V-Line?
@joferguson74 жыл бұрын
Kristie Beals they were both owned by V/line many years ago I believe. Then they were both sent up to NSW. S312 normally lived out near Blaney. S302 worked a lot of trains with El Zorro. As time went on, El Zorro bought S312 and they didn’t use it too often. Then El Zorro went broke. SSR were the ones who got their hands on them. Then typically worked the Kelso train with a 442 normally. Then S302 did some grain trains along the main south. When SSR won the Allied Pinnacle contract in Victoria, they put both of the S’s back on Broad Gauge to do that trip.

You may be intereste to know SSR had artists paint the broad gauge grain cars to stop people putting stupid graffiti on the side of trains. It's a problem everywhere
