Imagine lining the entryway to your home with red glowing rocks! Can you get the right lights for outdoor use for that type of thing? Lava along the sidewalk at night!

Very cool man! I was just at a NJ fluorescent mine! Fun stuff! I found a wild specimen last time I was in Utah. Pyrite on soda light that looks like yoopers with pyrite in it.

So jealous of your geology over there, love the fluorescent rocks, Only thing that glows around here is some calcite, amber and gypsum that I have been able to find. No patent number on my light tho so I might be passing things by, I use the "Alonefire H42UV 36W 365nm UV" one from amazon, probably garbage hah.
@meMiner Жыл бұрын
I have never seen amber under UV. I bet it is nice
@designworksdw1949 Жыл бұрын
The stuff around here has a really nice blueish green glow. Usually go out at night if there was a storm the day before to see if anything new has been washed off. I have also been experimenting with using a 405nm - 445nm laser to scout larger areas while wearing the proper and tinted safety lenses. They block out all the laser light frequency but lets most of the fluoresced frequencies come through. I find it hard to explain sry, basically with the laser you can de focus it to cover a 5x5m area and with the glasses anything that produces light (with the lenses i use it comes back as bright green do to the tint) is some sort of reactive mineral. Later under a proper light you can see the real colors. I have not really found anyone else that has tried this before but maybe you have?

Have you seen any videos of using short and medium wavelength UV lights on the same rocks? I know that using 395 and 365 and 255 wavelengths will produce different colors on the same rock. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
@meMiner Жыл бұрын
I have a different lamp that does all 3 wavelengths and experienced that. Some rocks look like nothing in black light (365) but sure glow nicely in short or medium wave.

I've been looking for a good uv light! They definitely should sponsor you, then I could buy one and support your channel!
@StarScapesOG Жыл бұрын
All I've been able to find are garbage ones... and a super sketchy laser that dumps uv light that it isn't supposed to...

Cool bit of kit, Rocks in a U/v display cabinets are awesome, Different take on humble rocks,, Does infra red light have an effect on any minerals? Cool video, cheers me miner
@meMiner Жыл бұрын
I don't think infra-red would do much. However, short and medium wave UV can be a real treat to try

Looks beautiful Greig. My son and I were at this site a few weeks ago and collected a number of samples as well. Do you know what the minerals are based on colour? I assume the Hakmanite is orange, but what is the purple/blue? Any ideas?
@meMiner Жыл бұрын
The Blue there is usually sodalite.
@stevemills2941 Жыл бұрын
What would happen if you tumbled these rocks or cleaned them up? Would the the fluorescent glows disappear?
@CoinandRelicOntario Жыл бұрын
No, it's the rock itself that fluoresces, not a coating on it.
