I love how you do some simple things, like adding pebbles and trees, to make the same terrain look distinctly different every game. Really impressive. Also, utterly gorgeous armies. Some of the most Heresy looking armies I've ever seen. The extra bits add a ridiculous amount of character.

The iron hands adding "and then horus showed up" in the post battle report to explain the outcome of the battle between their elite armored company and some rust buckets the local militia dug out of their junkyards and sheds. Absolute brutal battle, so many templates and marines going around.

Beautiful battle as always. The Militia tank company is so glorious. Couple things rules-wise on the list building (and correct me if I'm wrong), but I believe the Master of Armour in the Armoured Spearhead Rite of War must be a standard Sicaran battle tank (or predator) and can't be one of the variant sicarans. Additionally, in an Armoured Spearhead RoW, all infantry must begin the game in transports, therefore the big Medusan Immortal squads wouldn't work in this build. Obviously though at 5k points, most of the army building restrictions are a bit redundant, but worth keeping these things in mind for future smaller games :)

Immortals only gain Line HoTL and hatred in the Company of Bitter Iron ROW. They don't have them in their base rules. Also in an Armoured Spearhead, only a Sicaran can be the warlord, not the other variants as they are different units.

My enthusiasm over Armored Spearhead dwindled when I realized I had to use a basic Sicaran and none of the spicy variants (a Sicaran Omega warlord would be SWEET).

That's an amazing looking tank army; the dozer blades' hazard stripes are really striking. This demolition derby really looks like some of the more over the top 40k artwork.

The sculpted the dozer blades to have the stripes etched into them, ment I could paint the striped just with contrast paint before the weathering. No masking needed

I think above 3000 it really helps to play on a bigger board - it doesn't make sense these would come this close without already engaging already (this is an issue in Warhammer in general). I love how in 2nd/3rd, one recommended table size was 8*4, but I also appreciate how in other games, like hail Caesar, bigger games are recommended on tables as big as 12*6! Imagine that, it would suit the scale of heresy so well. Otherwise gorgeous game, but very cramped!

I have been saying this for years. The deployment zones are far too close for 40k and HH. Even small troop firearms can reach the opposition first turn. As you say, it's not actually thematic to start the fighting this close...maybe have a role before the first turn to determine damage already suffered so arnies start as if they have come through fire already. HH feels more like a strategic war game, but it would benefit from larger tables and gaps between the armies.

1. Only a basic sicaran can be a warlord in Armoured Spearhead 2. Immortals only gain hatred and heart of the legion in company of bitter iron 3. All infantry not in a transport at the start of turn one are removed as casualties, so the immortals and termis would be instantly dead turn 1

Awesome auxilia army tho was the macharuis around for 30k I thought they was made after the heresy by forgeworlds that wanted to build super heavies like baneblades but wasn't given the rights to do so and the macharius I'm sure was named after Lord solar macharius who was around in the early era of 40k

You're correct but the Macharius has rules in 30k in a PDF. There's a note that says something like "yes we know the Macharius wasn't around yet, let's just say it represents some of the wacky stuff that doesn't have an exact analogue"/

The macharius is just used to represent the other types of heavy tanks from the Heresy era that didnt survive to 40k. After all the Macharius was built from different fragmentary stcs which means the parts would be from heavy tanks potentially around during the Heresy.

I always thought that the solar auxillia got the sponsons but looking at the rules they also cannot.

In the hh books they referce the sponsons replacing the side hatchs and leaving the crew trapped in the case of a fire. but not in the rules. Which is a shame.

I really like it since it lets you play on tables that you just cant in current 40k since everything is so much more lethal. Its also nice having games where both players still have models on the board while 40k tends to end with someone being tabled quite often.

​@@sturm9087 Yeah I can understand that, though from what I've seen of heresy it seems to just swing in the opposite direction, it just seems like there's absolutely mountains of extra fluff rules. I love fluffy rules but rerollable saves into feel no pains - there's no drama to the roll, it's just an endless stream of durability checks. I know it's meant to be a kind of revised throwback to classic 4th edition but I feel they've added too many of the wrong things. Sort of similar issues with easy to trigger snap firing, half the penetrating table seemingly ignored by half the vehicles etc, there's just alot of stuff that feels designed to make alot less happen per dice roll. Kind of like when you use ork boyz in a shooting phase haha.

I might be confused here, because I mostly play oldhammer games, but how does line of sight work in Heresy? Surely a squadron of leman russes can't see through a different squadron, which is right in front of them - clearly blocking their line of sight? I know militia need all the help they can get, but if it was me playing, I'd be thinking a tonne of the shots that were fired couldn't have actually seen anything

True line of sight is a thing, so getting down and looking happens alot. Turret weaponry helps

@@wintersSEO I guess it's not the sort of game where you want to get too bogged down in realism, it's not chain of command. I do think that intervening cover saves need to be more generous to encourage people to make more realistic shooting decisions though. If you're looking over the top of the heads of a squad, through a half inch gap between two tanks, then through a window, IMO that target should be getting a 2 or 3+

I've never played HH, and I have a lot of nightmare memories of getting alpha struck turn 1. Genuine question, regardless of the actual outcome in the end, how do you avoid the feeling that you've lost the game just by losing the first rolloff for turn 1 in situations like this, in the moment?

Fight a bit thematicly. .i know It sucks to Get alpha striked....i speak form personal experience. ....Iron warriors dude teared part My mechanized heavy tank army ...My warlord died turn one. ,His spartan transport blowed up And him killed on the explosión alongside 3 terminators ..and then all thanks excepto for My scorpius where either glanced to death or exploded. ...excepto for My lone scorpius ... What I do on This Situation Is to try to kill whatever I can ... It Dosnt matter what Is....only taht I does die or causes modelos to be removed as cassualties .....taht makes one feel better

Generally a good amount of los block, shrouded reactions, night fighting,only being able to kill models in range and los and players being decent with each other and not shooting at something because they can see the tip of a gun barrel or an antennae. Nothings perfect but a combo of the above does help

HH is a much... sluggier game, vehicles can be hard to get rid of, same with marines, so typically an alpha strike isn't as devastating as in some other games. 40k is regularly decided by the first turn roll, for instance.
