Bring a rucksack with you. It's much more portable than a hand carried sack that throws you off balance. You wouldn't be struggling on the walk back to your car whilst carrying the larger bits like bottles or pottery. Trust me, it will actually save your back & shoulders from getting hurt and makes mudlarking easier.

Since there is two of them, that could probably work. I go out by myself and my rucksack is full of my shovel, scraper, water and lunch and other things I need. I end up hiking back with a bag in my hand full of stuff cause there just isn't room on my back. And it's quite a hike because the places are always far away from where you can park you car. You really do need to bring a lot with you.

While of course all these finds are artifacts of the lives that used them, there's something very special about the doll parts. They weren't just stuff (like bottles), they were, without doubt, actually loved! Seeing the child's boot really connects us all to the child who wore it to the point of it being totally worn out. Kind-a sad it had to be worn to having as much wear as it did. Makes me think "Hey, that's Oliver Twist's boot!".

Hey girls you found a lot of good things i was getting ready to say something about the green glass flower holder or what ever it is it is such a beautiful color it looks a lot better cleaned up i think Mic and Sarah may have looked at it before IF i am not mistaken ,.Sarah put together little piles of bottles and simular items incase someone might want them she makes a lot of things that she doesn't take,she loves jam jars and Mic teases her he ask her sometimes if she found a jam jar and she said no she found an ink jar and he said was there any jam in the ink jar and he get's herso frustrated they make me laugh some times they are so funny together. Sarah is doing her plot garden, and she is having a time she's got a big job there.your friend Josephine-from the U.S.A. ,i really like watching you find all those items and make things out of them.good night

I enjoy watching you two so much but I am always so shocked when you are so disappointed when something you find is broken. People have always been very resourceful and items were not normally tossed unless there was no way to use it anymore. I think when you find things all in one piece it is incredibly lucky. The same goes for teeth, I am truly amazed that the dumps are not filled with old teeth. Would people save them? Probably not, most likely they would have been thrown out and eventually taken to the dump. Love your show, and I am not surprised when most of what you find is broken.
@pamelavans5116
@pamelavans5116 4 ай бұрын
Hi Cheryl, I found your comments quite interesting. I think it depends where the dump was, because yes, poor people HAD to be resourceful, but wealthy people tossed out perfectly good, ( or close to), items, that others would find shocking. I think it's still like that. I could almost live on what an elder sister of mine tosses out. As for teeth, as long as it wasn't too rotten, teeth were often "sold" to the dentist ( or taken in exchange for pulling the tooth) and dentists would use them to make dentures, for wealthy people. Back in the day, rich people often had poor people's teeth in their mouths!

I wrote the previous comment without watching to the end, so did not realize you'd found a head in the same outing. I was also thinking that little sherry glass without its foot would make a great little bell; i.e. if you smoothed off the stem end to make a holder and put a glass bead, or similar, on a wire and affixed it to the cup part to allow it to tinkle when lightly shaken. It's the sort of bell that is used at small group meetings, or kept by an invalid's bed to summon help from a carer when required.

Hello lovely ladies, Just love your videos. Just a bit of information on those doll parts you found. The large porcelain doll without her feet is too big to be penny doll. She is German is circa 1860s due to her hair style. We in the States we call her a Frozen Charlotte. The little porcelain shoulderhead dates to late 1890s to 1930s. The Hertwig company made thousands of these. The bisque arms are also German dating to late 1800s. There are doll collectors who would buy that bisque forearm to complete their German bisque dolls that are missing arms on their antique bodies. Also, the little long arm was wired to a solid bisque German doll that arms moved. Late 1890s. I am a doll restoration artist and historian and look forward each week for your wonderful discoveries and your informative reports on the histories of your found objects. Thank you again and sending you warm regards from Pennsylvania.
