One of the nice things about being broke is that you don't feel the need to rush out and buy things the moment they're released. It's often wise to wait a few weeks (or months) before making a purchase, especially a tech purchase, because of things like what's happening with the 6k pro.

The thing about the NDs color shift is that it can be corrected on shoot if you do a proper white balance (including using the TINT function). It’s a matter of a few seconds. I don’t get why people complain that much about that. It’s physical : every camera when you stack NDs (which this camera does) you get some kind of shift.

Don’t use the standard battery indicator for battery life, read the voltage instead. Anything below 7.0V shows up as red on the P6K Pro but the camera won’t die until around 6.3 or 6.2V, so a better indicator that your battery is about to die would be at around 6.5 or 6.4V. I was confused at first but did some battery tests and it was consistent, whereas the normal battery indicator is so inconsistent because voltage varies a lot between batteries and changes throughout their use

2022 update. I've followed Brandon's thoughts of derigging my 6K pro (I've found using an external monitor and Samsung T5 too cumbersome, and opted for extra batteries (no D-Link) and taking out a small mortgage for a CF card. AMAZING DIFFERENCE. The 6K Pro screen is more than enough and I can shoot faster. The form factor is pretty crappy though and hard to grip. My previous canon D90 was way lighter, but Black Magic always wins on the large bright screen, ND's and simple to use interface

I mean who the F$^% cares about a blue screen when you can kill it in post. Not had any colour shift on my ND's and the battery life makes it really usable. I do have the battery grip which can make it bulky but I am a big lad(hands-wise) and that suits me. Just need Tilta to bring out a RIG for the Body and Grip. Great review Brandon, thanks. Love your channel and enjoy when you keep it 100 on the BMPCC cameras.

Have to make a few corrections. The battery meter does show voltage, you just need to tap on the battery icon on the screen to show the different readouts. For me, when recording 6K BRAW at 50p to an external T5 drive, the camera dies when the meter showed 6.1v The camera does save the file when your battery dies. I was recording BRAW 6k50p at 8:1 to a Samsung T5 when the battery died ( I let it die on purpose) and the file that was recording was perfectly fine. Really strange that your camera didn't save the file.

6k super 35 vs 4k M4/3 + speedbooster... I would say if someone wants the Full Frame look, then the 4K with speedbooster is the better option. As for what is the look? Its the shallower depth of field , since a crop will affect aperture. Lets say one uses Zeiss EF lenses and 40-45mm is a preferred focal (full frame). On a Super 35mm your option is either a Distagon 28mm F2 ($600 on ebay) or an Otus 28mm F1.4 ($3400 on ebay). On a super 35 crop, that distagon is now around F3 wide open. The Otus is around F2, while spending more on the lens than the camera body. If you go 4K + speedbooster, you can buy a Distagon 35mm f1.4 for around $760, and have a 40mm with f1.6 wide open. Yeah, industry standard is to shoot F4-F8 (full frame), but more aperture options gives people more creative freedom, which is why we are all doing this in the first place. My main point is, one could reasonably say Lens options is a huge factor determining the camera body.

There is absolutely no point to pair the 4K with a monitor with recording abilities when you have BRAW... You can save a couple hundred bucks for sure there. So the 4K will be even more less expensive and you don’t really need the Metabones as well, there are crazy good M4/3 lens out there. So 4K is still an amazing value for the money. That’s only my thoughts, thanks!
@jessecumberledge45303 жыл бұрын
I like a monitor with my 4k. But the ninja is pointless as it only outputs 1080p via HDMI and the camera gives you Prores and RAW internal. So the Shinobi at 300.00 which uses the exact same monitor and viewing features as the ninja would have made more sense. I also stick to M43 lenses personally. I am getting jealous looking at the 6k pro though!

The problem with the battery is the np-f style don't have a connection for percentage read out or the failsafe to stop the recording before it cuts out. This generally isn't a problem as you can work of voltage, which hopefully the camera can show and work with the camera. It can be a problem with this camera as you can't use a larger battery or hot-swap unless you have the power grip or use a external solution. The ND issue can't be fixed with firmware and the screen colour shift may also be hardware related. I feel blackmagic are getting close to having to recall this product as it seems all over the place.

Any camera, can perform great in bright light but may be garbage in low lighting situations. It's no good pumping up the ISO and pumping up the noise and trying to convince oneself that, it's ok we can fix that in post because in reality we know , nope that's not going to get accepted and getting rid of noise in post will always come at a price too (not to mention time and effort)

You claim not to have an issue with your ND colour shifting but then I can see it colour shift. Am I just seeing things? Also, if the 16-35 cannot balance on this camera when using an industry standard gimbal it's a bit of an issue as it tends to be the go to lens for that type of shooting. Being able to quickly adjust the frame tighter on that lens makes life allot easier.

Thanks for your thoughts man! As i am saving up for the c70 this camera does make me think... still not sure. Maybe you are planning to compare them anyway 😃
@CinemaSteve3 жыл бұрын
As someone who has both, my biggest draw to the C70 is autofocus, gimbal use, and battery life. I can take the C70 on any run-and-gun shoot. I can mount it on the RS2 and it’ll do all the focusing for me so I don’t have to fiddle with their focusing system on the RS2. Also 1 BP-A30 will last you a couple hours minimum so that is an afterthought for me. I pack 2 BP-A30’s and I’m set. Contrast that to the BMPCC6K Pro where you still have to worry about battery life, and there is only single shot AF so running on a gimbal or handheld means pulling focus. The biggest pros for the 6K Pro are the price and the image with BRAW. So if you aren’t using AF, don’t care about batteries, then the 6K Pro is worth it. If you want a better battery, and AF then the C70 is your camera. I just sold my 6K Pro because the C70 image is so damn good without RAW, and the 6k BRAW was taking up so much space and for what I do nobody really noticed the difference anyway, I just couldn’t justify it anymore.

The P4K with a speed booster still makes much more sense. Most productions don’t want to deal with 6k BRAW as the files are much harder to work with. 6K BRAW over 25p requires much more expensive CFast media to keep up with data rate. You can shoot 4K BRAW on the 6K but the crop factor is worse than on the P4K with no speed booster. You can’t correct the crop factor on the 6K like you can with the P6K by using a speed booster due to the EF mount. That leaves you with shooting full sensor 4K ProRes.....which is still great but .........🤔 I need a second camera and already have the P4K. Id go the 6k pro for the tilt screen and internal NDs but these features are easy to rectify on the 4K by using a $300 1500nit 5” monitor and some screw in Nds. The shortcomings of the P6k on the other hard are not really fixable. Hmmmmmm Thoughts
