Scott, when your video showed cracked Czech canister, I thought you might like a tip about repurposing old ceramic sugar canisters or even large orphan sugar bowls. I have a hand painted Italian ceramic sugar canister that I dearly love & cannot part with. It has been through much clumsy handling--and even a few earthquakes--with many rim chips and a cracked and badly chipped lid. It is no stranger to Super Glue. The lid doesn't seal tightly so I can't store sugar in it. However, the canister makes a excellent container for an assortment of packets of Splenda, Stevia, Equal and Sweet'N'Low. It sits proudly on my kitchen counter, at the ready, right next to my electric percolator that I bought back in 1969, and my vintage Scandinavian tin "Kaffe" canister.
@gailsprangers93882 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Janet. Whats a littlecrack when itcomes to a pretty cannister! Mine does have a crack that was repaired and works perfectly for my sugar. The rice cannister is too small for the rice I use, so that is kept in a screw top glass jar!
@janetburke27392 жыл бұрын
@@gailsprangers9388 I agree with you about little cracks and chips! I like to reuse, re-purpose and fix (if possible) all sorts of things. About sugar canisters, I keep quite a bit of white sugar on hand, mainly to use it for making hummingbird nectar. My Italian sugar canister holds maybe 1 pound, way too small for the amount of sugar I need for making nectar, so instead I use it for the sugar substitute packets we use in cereal, coffee, tea, etc. I bought the canister approx. 25 years ago at an Italian importer's warehouse sale. It was an orphan, a lone canister on a clearance table full of hand-painted dinnerware. So, I keep my white sugar in a 2 gallon restaurant-type storage container. We have maybe a dozen hummingbirds that live here year-round and eat from our feeders and nest in our trees, but we get more hummingbird visiting seasonally in the spring, summer and fall to rest a while here and eat before resuming their migration. We love to watch them, they are beautiful, like living jewels.

Hey Scott! I am and I am not surprised at the cardboard egg carton. I work at a big box retailer and yes, we sell empty egg cartons...in the pet department. They're for people who have pet chickens and they need cartons for the eggs. Amazingly, the price at the thrift store is about the same as we sell at retail. Raising chickens so they can have fresh eggs seems to be becoming more and more popular in the burbs and the country. It might be worth it to start saving egg cartons for resale. Who knows? After working where I do, not much surprises me any more.

Those antique trimmers are excellent. I collect and use old kitchen and garden tools in preference to new ones. They hold an edge, do the job, and last longer than anything new. That bridge you crossed driving safely looked like it was put together using an ‘Erector set’. Hull this week, Roseville next week, then on to a collection of Weller. Matching your wardrobe and hairstyle to the time when things were popular/trending is cleaver time recall. I left my childhood barber behind to move on to the ‘hair stylist’ phase in my life. That just meant I went from a $7, 15 minute, electric clipper haircut to a 1 hour $20 stylish scissor cut. I was paying for a therapy session and pampering from my stylist though. LOL.

Oooooh. That 1930's modular kitchen cabinet!!! I have part of my mother's cream and green and the one you found would have matched mine. You are so right, it is almost impossible to remove repainted layers to get down to the original paint. When my mother got married in 1937, her cream and green cabinet was the first piece of furniture she purchased. Although repainted and beat up a good bit, I want to try and repair my mother's. I love it.
