Heart rocked because they ROCKED! they werent worried about "girl power" they did it because they were full on rock. They werent worried about patting themselves on the back, they just rocked, hard and its why they are awesome. If more women would stop worrying about "girl power" and just go all out we would see a lot more women standing tall and rockin out.

This was their studio version synced up with live footage. You can find the actual live performance on YT. You are absolutely going to want to explore this band. I just liked and subscribed for what I hope to be your journey exploring more Heart. Try their "Crazy on You" live 1978 version. You will see an extended acoustic guitar intro by Nancy leading into the song. WELL WORTH WATCHING! Ann (vocals) & Nancy (acoustic guitar) Wilson are sisters. Heart was a progressive rock band in the 70's. For me (and for Ann & Nancy BTW), their first 5 albums were their strongest work. Both ladies are incredibly talented. In the 80's they signed a contract that took away some of their creative control. They were re-imaged by their "corporate masters" as a pop rock band in the 80's. They still had some good 80's songs, but their albums were not chalked full of hidden gems like their earlier works. They were even dressed in the "popular corporate wardrobe" of the day - which they also didn't really enjoy.

So, Ann Wilson is front vocal and her sister Nancy is on guitar. Nancy plays a variety of strings (including the mandolin) and if you want to she her absolutely shred on the acoustic, find the live vid of "Crazy on You", but make sure you get the version with the long acoustic intro (it's actually two songs, the acoustic solo is titled separately but it leads into Crazy on You). Nancy absolutely shreds on the guitar and then Ann comes in after with the power vocals....

Nice reaction. I was a senior in high school when this album was released. I was into Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Yes, Hendrix, etc etc etc and the rocking Wilson sisters were very popular among all of my rock and roll loving friends of that era. Both Ann and Nancy have fantastic voices, but I don't think any other female vocalist in rock and roll can equal Ann Wilson. A legend in her own time, no doubt. Their music still sounds fresh all of these years later, it's amazing.

Heart has reinvented themselves a couple of different times, but this is their iconic best from the 1970's. Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock music singers, male or female. And Nany Wilson is one of the greatest rock guitar players, male or female. The only problem is that they tended to overshadow the rest of the band, who were fantastic in their own right. Getting into the 80's they went more of a hairband style, but were still great.

It was a pleasure to see you so sincerely blown away by the power of Ann Wilson's voice. She's been doing that to me since 1977. Yes, it's a studio recording paired with a live performance, but they're remarkable live. Still touring, but Ann doesn't have the consistent power at 74 she did at 27. But still a brilliant musician. I highly recommend the Alive In Seattle concert from 2002, it's amazing to hear them at peak maturity, without the corsets and hairspray of the MTV 80s videos.

Heart’s performance of: Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” in 2012 At the Kennedy Center (NOTE: There are TWO versions of this; you want the LONGER one - 7:59 minutes - the heading says “Full Version” - because the shorter one has CUT OUT bits of the performance. THE CHANNEL THIS IS ON: Don Jack) “These Dreams” A live performance at the Paramount Theater in SEATTLE in 2002. (This rendition sounds even BETTER than the original studio recording!) This is from 1977... there were very few 'Music Video' type releases, with visuals that were not just the band playing -- they were rather expensive seeing as they needed to do it on film (video tech was in its infancy, really). So this is not Live... it is the studio audio track and a Live show mashed together to look as synched as possible. They did a convincing job, I think. ;-] There are very good Live videos out there of Heart, if that's what you like, but no, this one isn't really Live.

The song, Baracuda, was written by Ann after a radio promoter asked her how her "lover" was doing, which Ann took to mean her boyfriend (the band manager), but the promoter meant her sister, Nancy. The promoter was, as the story goes, just parroting a rumor started by the label, Mushroom Records, that started it in order to garner more record sales. - As Flicker put it, "'Barracuda' was created conceptually out of a lot of this record business bullshit. Barracuda could be anyone from the local promotion man to the president of a record company. That is the barracuda. It was born out of that whole experience."

Great job. I like the variety of music styles you're reacting to. I'm not sure but you might want to research if getting a better microphone might get a better sound for the music. Or maybe get some feedback from other reactors on how their setup is? Also, there may be a way to feed the sound through direct line instead of using an open mic if that's what you are doing, but I really don't know. Anyway there must be a way to eliminate that distortion and fading in and out of the sound...Good luck!

“So much girl power”. Truly, one of the most ridiculous things that has ever come out of a Gen Z mouth. The Wilson sisters weren’t about “girl power”. They were about the music, nothing more. They weren’t looking for accolades because they’re female.
@ernesthakey33963 ай бұрын
Hey, she's reacting honestly, and she's a product of her times. And to be fair, while Ann and Nancy weren't particularly focused on "girl power", this very song is a clap-back against the misogyny of the record label guy who tried to push a rumor that Ann and Nancy were actually lesbian lovers in order to sell more records - that's who the "barracuda" in the song represents. "If the real thing don't do the trick, you better make up something quick" is definitely calling the guy out for the douche he was. And whether the Wilson sisters themselves were just all about the rock or not, Heart was in fact one of the bands that led the way for women in rock to be able to shine, for women to do more than just sing; Nancy's awesome guitar skills inspired lots of women to dream of being in a band, and to actually pursue that dream. They weren't the only ones, but they were definitely a positive force in that regard. You don't have to actively promote "girl power" to be an icon that does inspire more women to get into the business. So the comment is legit - they WERE an inspiration, just by being who they were.
