This is a great rock band that started in the 70's. Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. They have had so many great hits such as "Crazy on You", "Magic Man", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc. In 2012 Ann & Nancy performed at the Kennedy Center Honors in a tribute to Led Zeppelin doing their classic song "Stairway To Heaven".

This was and is a great song, but most people never knew the real reason it was written. The meaning behind this song, Ann has said: "There was this one sleazy guy at a record company or promoter - I can’t even remember where from, exactly. You know that type; there’s a lot of those kinds of guys in this business. And he was like, because of our album cover where we had bare shoulders touching … “So, Ann, how’s your lover?” And she goes, “Oh, yeah, Mike’s great!” And he goes, “No, no, I mean your sister, haha!” So, the insinuation that we were lovers was, of course, not anywhere near true and really sleazy and inappropriate. " That song started out as a personal revenge-type of song, but the longer it was out in the world and the longer we played it, it became more universal because there’s so many damn barracudas out there everywhere. You could be talking to any number of barracudas when you’re singing that song on stage. So, I think people want to feel a little bit outraged at the people that are barracudas out there in the world and there’s plenty of them!

Since you’re into country music, Gretchen Wilson sung this live on a VH1 music awards, and did an amazing job. She sung it with Nancy Wilson on guitar (blond sister). She’s good friends with them and sometimes sings the song live with them. She’s so close to them, they call her a third sister, and coincidentally her last name is “Wilson” too. Btw, us rockers were hoping Gretchen Wilson would put out a rock album. I guess her heart is country, but her vocals are well capable for rock music. And yes, I’m aware of her song “Red Neck Woman” that proves her loyalty to country music.

I'm 65 years old. Back in the late 70's, I was in high school, and had the biggest crush on Nancy Wilson. While Ann was the lead vocalist, and always out front, I always preferred Nancy's looks and singing, though there are not a lot of Heart songs with her voice in the lead. There was just something about Nancy that had this young Texan's heart going pitter-pat! Check out Nancy's voice singing lead, on "These Dreams," a song that came much later in their career ..... Basically, after their comeback in the late 80's.

If you gals want to see what Ann & Nancy Wilson can do live, check out this live performance of "Bebe Le Strange" from 2019: ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2jUhp96bcSBhas ) and, of course, their epic cover of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnfbgJR6mq-gjs0 ) as part of the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. 🙂 The story behind this song ("Barracuda") isn't quite so fun, unfortunately. They were angry about an advertisement which their record label at the time, Mushroom Records, had placed in certain trade publications which was worded in a way that implied that Ann and Nancy were lesbian lovers having an affair. (It didn't come out and *say* so, of course, but it was clearly meant to stir up publicity by making people go "hmm"...) Ann found out about it when a promoter came up to her after a concert and asked her how her "lover" was; at first, she thought he was asking about her boyfriend at the time, but when she found out he meant her sister Nancy, she was (understandably) furious, and she and Nancy wrote the song in their hotel room, comparing the sleazier side of the music business to a fast, aggressive predator that could turn around and bite you at any moment.
