Aloha you are doing so well. FYI 2020 awards shows due to COVID, without fans. They were able to capture making of; behind the scenes though. It helped me to put some connection between some songs. That network did what they could for all of Korea entertainment with those tid bits. have fun

They were at their peak in terms of performance back then, all top shape, the 7 being under 25. They did complete choreo while singing replicating the exact music videos. That was surely so demanding, an athletic tour de force, and RM commented on the fact that as they get older it will be more and more difficult to perform at that level. They are still amazing performers to this day and deliver top level shows for sure. 🦋💜🦋

This was a huge performance for them but if you want a full BTS concert at an awards show, you need to see the 2019 performance. It's a masterclass in making the stage yours

The choral bit at the beginning is Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei, which is the choral version of his Adagio for Strings. One of the most beautiful things I've ever sung, but SO hard. The soprano part had me wishing for gills.

I can't even begin to imagine the intensity of this choreography and them singing in their suits!!! And to think that they also had a very tiring choreo of BST beforehand.. Every year it becomes bigger and grander for BTS's stage performances, this isn't even half of their 2018 and 2019 MMA performance so expect to be blown away by their vocals and dance routines & the story lines they create in their stage performances that are tied to all their songs.. even incorporating cultural dances & Greek mythology.. it's good that you go through them from the early years before watching their latest performances.

MMA (Melon Music Awards) and MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) are those big kpop award shows that happen at the end of the year. Usually all artists that perform leave jaw-dropping performances, and BTS is no exception. In 2016, god that year was so big for them. They won a Daesang that year (A Daesang is like a big award ex. Artist of the Year, Album of the year, etc.). BTS won album of the year, and seeing them cry backstage with the thoughts of “we did it, we made it” makes me cry everytime. They truly deserve all the happiness in the world. Also notes for other award shows you might watch. MMA & MAMA 2020 - no crowd, everything is prerecorded due to Covid. Plus, no Suga. He was recovering from his shoulder injury MMA & MAMA 2021 - BTS didn’t perform that year. They were on a small break to spend the holidays with their families, which they hadn’t really done since debut (they’ve been busy with promotions, these award shows, practice, comebacks, etc.). So don’t be alarmed if you don’t find anything for it, it doesn’t exist. But they did win awards that year! These performances are so special. BTS have a small habit of making award shows into their concerts lol! I can’t wait for the award shows this year OMG YES THE MASTER SPREADSHEET 💜 Edit: …hot boy walks?

Can't beat BTS award show performances, my favourite one from 2016 though was MAMA Hong Kong stage, probably because it opened with my favourite J Hope song Boy meets evil and my favourite Jimin song Lie, before going into blood sweat and tears, but the life stage performance throughout from all our boys was really epic on a big scale of epicness. Really worth a watch if you can get it. I really do respect BTS and do like their newer stuff, but their older music just seems to hit harder and I still choose to listen to this over the newer stuff. It's funny I said to my daughter that I felt the guys were seeming a little lost musically as a group, just before RM said it on their birthday meal, but I've got total confidence in them all and know regardless of how long it takes, they will come back with their next group album as strong as ever. Love these guys so much, just make me smile and feel happy when listening to them or watching them xxx

Andrew...well...looks like I am going to be able to keep voting...hahahaha! If you could have seen me watching your reaction to this Performance!!! Had a crazy grin on my face the whole time!!! BTS never ceases to amaze me. My daughter showed me this performance 3 years ago, that's when I started to fall into the BTS rabbit hole. Happy to say that I've been here ever since. Fire and BS&T are 2 of my most favorite BTS group songs. Fire just gets me all hyped up and BS&T is just....well, sexy with that choreo! I heard Fire first and V's voice is what got me, then she showed me BS&T and that cinched the deal pretty much. V just stands out for me and whenever I hear him in a song...sends shivers down my spine. His voice is just....awesome. I grew up listening to 70's super groups and 80's hair bands. Was never into rap or hip hop. But listening to BTS, it's more than rap and hip hop...I can't explain it!! BTW, these award performances get bigger and better as each year passes. I've only been an ARMY for 3 years, wish I could have been there from the beginning!! Can't wait to see your reactions to 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 MMA's!!! They really do turn award shows into their own mini concerts!! It is just awesome and you can feel the energy!! Thanks for this, I thoroughly enjoyed it!! Have a great rest of your week and weekend!! You're in for a treat, Andrew! BTS awards show performances are some of the best (maybe the best, actually) of any artist out there. And they outdo themselves every year, amazing! The closest thing that comes to mind are Michael Jackson's performances and Superbowl halftime shows. I consider them musical extravaganzas, a pleasurable attack on the senses. :)

Whoa. I've seen their 2016 MAMA performance (also amazing-- actually, I'd say it's better than this one, because of Hobi and Jimin's Boy Meets Evil dance at the beginning), but somehow I missed this one! I'd agree with other commenters that the 2019 MMA are absolutely EPIC. My fave, tho, is still their 2018 MMA performance: IDOL with their LOUD AND PROUD celebration of Korean music & culture on the big (veeeerry big) stage.

2016 was a really good year AND a really bad year. BTS was rising in popularity, and were also getting more hate. The fan wars of 2015/2016 were bad! Army was growing but other fandoms were bigger at the time. That's when I dropped out of all other fandoms except Army. This time period was when Army became super protective of the boys.

U should watch that there is a cool entrance. In the early years they did not put them last or near last. But they learned and maybe other groups refused to go after them, lol. If you like the 2016 MMAs, you are going to LOVE 2018, and 2019. They will completely blow you away. I remember someone saying, about the 2019 MMAs, "It was so nice of BTS to let them hold an Award Show during their concert". And that's how it feels. I won't say to much about them, because I do not want to ruin the surprise. I will say two things however. 1. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet. 2. Prepare To Have Your Mind Completely Blown 💜 Plus the 2016 MAMAs has an incredible dance duet/battle with Jimin and J-Hope to Lie, and Boy Meets Evil. Take special note of Jimin (that's all I'll say). It's truly amazing 💜

About how other acts perform after them... I am not 100% certain... just based on my vague memory (confession, didn't bother going back to check show footage and such), but I believe/remember BTS were NOT THE LAST to perform that year (both 2016 MMA and MAMA), nor 2017's MMA/MAMA either I think? During those times, they were still the "underdogs" though clearly rising, finally winning grand prize categories. But there were supposedly "bigger" groups from the big3 that has bigger influence in terms of performance orders, thus I believe BTS didn't perform last during those times. They weren't even expected to win (well, ARMYs worked hard to vote), seeing how shocked they themselves were as well as how mad the competing fandom was (another long story about their protests after BTS won), so no, I am quite certain they didn't perform last. And yes, whoever performed after them, the supposed bigger star, how awkward to follow BTS's performance!
