People forget that wild horses have a lifespan around 20 years. The 30+ horses you see have never missed a hoof trim or vet check. They had a balanced died and good breeding. Never overworked or beaten. Over 20 with no care is a miracle for most horses.

Im so glad you discuss the end of life care and decisions. So many people refuse to think about it. Horses like many prey animals, mask their pain as not to show weakness or they get eaten. So when they physically show signs of lameness or being unwell. You know they are in great pain. Keeping animals going when there is pain is purely selfish by the owners. True love and respect means doing the last act of love at the most appropriate time for your animal , as devastating as that is. Big hugs to Kory, who had to make that decision 💔

I had a bird with a heart condition I had been treating for over a year. I took her to the vet because she was having problems. When I found out her heart condition was worse, I asked them to put her down. The Dr wouldn't do it. So I gave her to a nurse who worked at the vet, she was crazy about her. I said I don't think this is the best thing for her. I said I didn't think she would make it a week. Sure enough, 3 days later, I got a call telling me I was right. This was the first vet I ever had that wouldn't put an animal that was ready to be let go down. I found a new vet.

I started riding when I was four years old; we had horses my whole life growing up, and trained more than one of them ourselves. We'd use quirts and buggy whips as cues, yes, but never ever would we have ever considered striking a horse like that; a light tap, or even just a wave of the buggy whip, is enough to tell the horse what you want. The very idea of breaking a horse's skin like that is just horrifying to me. I can't imagine what kind of a person feels the need to do that. I'm so glad that poor whipped Standardbred wound up in your hands.

I live with a few chronic pain conditions, and have had most of them since I was a young teen. Thankfully I have treatments that at least control my conditions enough that I can live a relatively normal life. This was such a an emotional roller coaster! Thrilling that Dr Nancy will be mom to Ginger Darlin' and her friend. She'd be a fantastic owner for any animal, but Ginger may have extra needs, and no one could be better prepared to help her. HPHS struck gold when they found Dr Nancy. (Now y'all need to get her a dog for the office, and name him Matthew M!) Kory, I'm very sorry you had to lose Ace so soon. Just watching him soak up the loving and treats from the staff, it was easy to see he was a special boy. Thank you for giving him such a good life. I hope your next mustang comes along soon. The whip scars on the buggy horse took me back to reading Black Beauty as a child. Even then, I couldn't imagine why anyone would mistreat these wonderful animals. I'm sure he, like the horses spending their last days in a sunlit pasture, feels like he's found heaven. May he have plenty of time to enjoy it! Thanks to Tawnee, Jason, and everyone else there for all your hard work and compassion.

That would have been in interesting if short ride on Shelia I expect. She was doing some impressive bucking and jumping. I know you do all you can to give a chance to the horses you rescue. At least they get some time to be horses as much as they can be and get to hopefully see that not all people are horrible. That poor horse with the whip scars. Whoever did that deserves to be tied to a post and take just as many lashes themselves. If they were still alive at the end, turn them loose in the street with no treatment offered. There is no excuse for torturing an animal. Condolences to Kory. He had a great life with a great person. It doesn't matter what species of pet, if you do it right, they give so many wonderful days, but ultimately a very sad but important one that you have to get right and don't get to duck out on.

I'll never forget him. Who ever owned the horse you have should be charged with abuse. Paperwork should show who it is and they should be exposed. Or don't these horses have paperwork I don't know. The thing about those older horses that really frustrated me was that a lot of that is preventable as well. Good hoof care, good diet, and good treatment regimen can help a horse maintain healthy bones and joints. They may have had many more years than what they have now, though there is no promise in that, the chances would be higher.

I feel for her having to surrender her horses but only she knows the reason why, but they are in the best place possible in the world. Congratulations Dr. Nancy adopting her Ginger. I saw a unique shoe from Idaho Horsemanship for a horse with a club foot, maybe Elijah or yourself could contact them and find out about it. Oh, Kory, I feel your pain regarding Ace and saying goodbye. You did the right thing. He looked fantastic. It's the hardest thing we do as animal lovers and owners. I believe the horses you save at the auction have a reason to be saved by you. You love on them, give them time to feel so much better at the end of their lives, then if you have to give them the gift of a humane passing you do. Thank you. If only there were more knowledgeable owners doing the right thing we wouldn't see these horses at auctions.

I hear you. I had 2 cats for 18 years and when the vet told us when it was each one's time for them to go, they said we could take them home to spend one last night with them. But besides not wanting them to endure any longer if they were suffering, I knew how they were terrified of the car ride so I didn't even want to put them through that one more time and had them go ahead and give the last act of kindness on the spot. But it is hard with animals since they can't tell us how they feel. Like in my case one cat was obvious because he had kidney failure but the other cat didn't show any signs of pain or any medical issues, she just became really clingy. The vet thought we should let her go and we didn't want to see her, like Tawnee said, deteriorating and/or having a major medical complication and really suffering a few months down the road.

So very sorry for your loss 😢 I went through something almost the same, except that the fluid on the lungs moved and my cat died a horrible death on the way to the vets. I wished the vet hadn't sent me home the first time 😣

@@charlotterockel-kennedy8913 Oh Charlotte no..how awful for you to have to see your fur baby in such distress.. seeing what happened to you makes me realise that I did make the right decision..but your vet was wrong ..they should have advised you about what could happen.. my Rufus looked at me and I could see he had had enough.. I did feel I was taking his life too early but it was the right thing to do for HIM in hindsight..but next time Charlotte you will know when to make that decision and not be swayed by the vet.. seeing these poor horses gets me so angry..these owners want their last dollar from them rather than pay for a vet to put them out of their misery..I'm so sorry for your loss and for you having to see your furry in such distress..we live and learn..thank you so much for your kind words..I'm 63 and have decided not to get another cat..I can't get a dog as my mobility issues stop me from walking it and ive lostb4 cats in 2 yrs..all late teens in age and to illnesses..but Rufus hit me hard..I rescued him from a terrible situation when he was about 1 yr old..he was such a softie for a boy..he was a lovely ginger boy..it really knocked me for 6..as he only was diagnosed with this 3. Months before he passed..I have all my babies ashes in little urns with their names on them..people might think thats weird but I wanted them back home with me..take care .and think of the many wonderful memories you have from your life with your fur baby..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🐾🐾🐈👍

@@kimmarievan-ever6599 thank you for your kind words. I have sadly experienced a lot of sad things with cats and have decided not to get another one 😪 I have 2 retired greyhounds and 2 Irish Cobs, both now 27. I live only for my pets and do absolutly everything for them. It breaks my heart seeing so many horses where the owners have neglected them and I will never understand how people can be so heartless. I am 56 and my animals keep me fit, mentally and physically and I still ride a lot of friends horses because I have a light hand and can connect to animals in a different way than most people. I had a greyhound called Rufus, that's such a cool and unique name 😍❤wishing you all the best and take care too xxx

@@charlotterockel-kennedy8913 kindred spirits Charlotte..what is the likelihood of us both having pets called Rufus..its not a common name so thats just spooky..in a good way..I used to foster neglected and abused cats and rehabilitate them so they can find their furever homes..so I too have witnessed humans cruelty first hand..the physical problems are always easier to get better..it was just a case of being patient with them and do it at their pace no matter how slow..some responded quicker than others..but I'm proud to say I never had a failure..they sll found great homes..one took 8 months before he would let me touch him..he wasn't feral..just absolutely petrified everytime he saw a hand or foot..that tells you everything but I'd say he was my biggest success because of that..once he trusted me he became an absolute fuss monster. .absolutely loved a cuddle..he is now with a retired couple in the country and his dad hold him in his arms like a baby and tickles his tummy..worth every bite and scratch..which of course they do as its their only defence..people's mistake is to pull your hand away..one..thats how you get the tears in your skin through claws and teeth but also the quick movement makes them think they're going to be hit again..just leave your hand there and they will let go and just gently say no. It works every time..used to be in a group of people who rescued and rehabed..but just too much with my medical issues now.. it is rewarding but damn it makes you bloody angry..take care of yourself snd your lovely furries..god bless. .🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🐾🐾🐈🐕🐎👍

High again Restores one's faith in humanity when someone donates such generous gifts funds and horses. Caring and kind is how owners should be always so such unbelievable abuse neglect and suffering would never take place. Thx as always to you all for all the TLC you give. Soo sorry for your loss Kory but you chose the best thing for your mustang.

This was an awesome video today! Ginger, Joy and Dr. Nancy….what a great combo. Kory, I’m so sorry for you with Ace, but knowing his best life with you is comforting. The black Standardbred is beautiful…so proud, so dignified and so deserving of a good home. I hope he learns to trust again and he will make a wonderful horse! The woman at the end of the video…wow! Thank you for being so generous and mindful of the needs at HorsePlus. It truly is heartwarming to see the compassion in this world so full of negativity. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤❤❤
