I did a quick search and it seems that for the phone I’m using, Redmi Note 7, it’s still at the “Testing” phase. I’m not really at the level where I’m confident to build one on my own. I’d rather wait for a prebuilt image to become a thing first. But yea, thanks for suggesting it!

Btw if you are trying to find arm applications for I want to touch and they are not available in the default repo you can try to download the deb packages from a raspbian repository and then manually install them through apt, though this may very well break your packages but it's at least a viable option you've got if you want to test things

15:29 that's really interesting. If I had to take a wild guess the first time it asked for your passcode is to log in as your user, the second time is to grant sudo permission. The same workflow makes sense on Linux desktop but it does feel very odd on mobile

Genuine question: how the eff did you install Ubuntu Touch on a Redmi Note phone without turning off the bootloader - have you had it unlocked beforehand or did you just-- I seriously wanna know what I've been doing wrong trying to install it on a Redmi Note 9
@MeloriTensei49 минут бұрын
Yea, I’ve had mine unlocked prior. It was quite a jungle to go through but it still worked regardless.

i used it for a while but I was mostly using waydroid and my device was kinda abandoned so I came back to android. also I think ubuntu touch has read only root, you might be able to change it but an update would revert it all back. it also uses the regular android kernel for the device which makes things generally work better but breaks some linux stuff. no X11 etc. for example. something like postmarketos is a bit more regular linux. but depending on the device it can be a bit less functional.
@deathmist_3 күн бұрын
Android kernel (which you can change the configuration of and still patch source code of btw) isn't really the reason X11 is broken, it's the userspace stack you run on top of the kernel. Ubuntu Touch (since 20.04 anyway) has Xwayland which works possibly after a bit of tweaking from device porter side. libhybris even has patches floating around for accelerated X11 rendering backend which you can run full Xorg-based desktops on top of not that basically any of them would be very usable on a phone-sized display (especially those running legacy UI toolkits without proper touch support) :p
