I was genuinely surprised by the quality of this show. Kinda reminded me a bit of that forgotten Netflix gem, Trinkets (great show btw if you haven't seen it). Also, one of the Liars being A is a cool idea. As long as it's not one of their long lost twins sporting a horrible accent, I'll be fine.

Yess! I thought that I was the only one making this comparison! The chemistry of the main cast is very reminiscent of trinkets, which features young women who highlight the differences & bring out the best in one another!

I was actually super impressed with the spin-off! I love that the main characters actually feel like good friends and have a lot of chemistry, compared to the og liars who sometimes felt like they just hung out because of A, rather than because they like each other’s company

Wow for me personally it’s the opposite. I feel like the girls don‘t have that much chemistry, they don’t seem like real friends. For example in pll the girls would meet up in duos like Emily and Hanna or aria and spencer etc. but In plltos they’re always together and barley talk to each other about privat stuff or they don’t meet up just to chill in bed and talk about stuff or watch a movie. Like the og girls did.

@@AR-di8em Idk it's totally subjective but i feel like these girls have more authentic conversations as a newer friend group - i'm sure we'll see more duos develop, like imogen and tabi, as the season progresses, and they learn more about each other and open up, and we're already seeing that in episode 5. the og liars were friends for years before the show started, so it makes sense that they felt more comfortable having deeper convos, whereas these girls just met - but that's what always got me about the og girls, even though they were supposedly bffs, they constantly kept secrets from each other and would do things behind each other's backs. it also felt like they only ever hung out to talk about A

@@KimboHimbo I feel like that's the problem, they claim to be BFFs when didn't even know each other two weeks ago, and we don't know for how long Imogen and Tabby are friends. They don't really trust each other, they still do some stuff alone when you clearly know it's not a good idea (again, all the while saying how good friends they are). So I completely agree with @AR on this, I loved the ogs chemistry and friendship.

@@AlgoDeCris they don’t claim the be “bffs,” in my opinion. they’re aware of the idea that they’re newer friends and are definitely working toward becoming closer. in ep 3 where they had known each other for a week or 2, faran and noa were questioning if they were all friends. however by the end of that episode they all decided they were in this together. from the episodes released as of right now, they’ve known each other for around a month. i think the show is giving a realistic portrayal of how new friendships develop, while also focusing on the development of the girls as individuals. that’s why they tend to do some things alone and why we don’t get as many duo moments. all of those things take time since they are newer friends and in the og they were already friends + had many filler episodes to showcase those dynamics.

The strange shot with a close up face in the foreground and the reaction shot in the background all in the same frame is a reference to director Brian De Palma. He's known for that specific shot, especially throughout Carrie. The entire show has horror references like Wes' name is like horror director of Scream Wes Craven and Ash is like Ash versus Evil Dead.

there's a lot of horror references. right after the scream reference there's a halloween homage where imogen looks out the window. and the shots used during the ballet class COULD be similar to suspiria. it's actually really entertaining and well thought out

I started watching pllos with little to no hope bc of all the reboots that have come out lately but I was greatly surprised!!! you can feel how much the writers, directors and actors themselves love the horror genre and the original pll series so yeah so far I'm loving the series and I'm looking forward to seeing how everything will unfold

7:23 idk if someone else said this but i think these are in reference to Brian DePalma (who gets referenced quite a bit in the episode). He likes to shoot a bunch of scenes like that, especially in "Carrie".

Up until now PLL original sins is really good. I've got the same reservations as you about Roberto , like we've seen what happens to tv shows he's involved in aka Riverdale and Chilling adventure of Sabrina . Everytime he gets involved it feels like the first season is good and then it all comes crashing down from there . We saw it with Riverdale and CAOS it went from mystery to forced musical and witchy marvel type of shit . I hope he's learned from the mistake he did with Riverdale et CAOS , but ii'm not sure he did .

I'll give it to like season 3 or 4 here for this show... Riverdale got bad season 2, Sabrina got bad second part of season 2 and season 3. He's progressively getting better... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

i’m happy that they are going more with the slasher vibe because that’s what i always felt was missing from the og pll. like yeah there was the risk of death sometimes but with this show i feel like really at any moment someone could/will die. obviously nothing can touch the original but i’m very pleased with the vibe of this version.

babes why are we all lying in the comments like this.... its definitely better than expected but a lot of the cinematography choices are weird and unnecessary, the dialogue is cringy, the side characters are forgettable and theres barely any chemistry between ALL the liars, and with such a short season im worried they wont be able to flesh them all out equally as individuals.... I see the potential but theres definitely a lot than needs to be worked on, idk we'll just have to wait and see

Okay but yes I feel like besides imogen and tabby, the friendships feel sooooo forced? Like yes they bond over hating Karen, but that still doesn’t make you insta bffs. I mean I love a meet in detention and plot our revenge story (looking at you John Tucker) but it still felt really superficial to me. Also what motivation do they have to not tell their parents or anyone else that they are being stalked and harassed once they find out it isn’t Karen? In the og the girls didn’t want to tell anyone because A had serious dirt on them. Maybe I missed it in this one but I don’t see what motive they have to keep it secret. Tabby especially is very close to her mom so why not tell her? Anyways a lot of plot holes and kind of unbelievable characters, but overall it is better than expected. I also like this setting for the show as opposed to the preppy, super rich Rosewood community. It gives it more of an edge.I.e., the chase scene in the rundown apartment building would have never happened in og pll. Will be interesting to see how the story develops! I really hope one of the liars is A or at least working for A because that’s definitely a missed opportunity from the og.

The problem I had with this series is that the actors did not do well. Like the delivery is so awkward. There's no chemistry and flow of the script. I'm only watching it for the plot cause the concept of this is better than the og one. I gotta give the acting chops to the og actress like they carried the show.

Also Sasha! 14 years old and probably the best character until the writers didn't know what to do with her in the later seasons. I agree with you that the new liars aren't as strong. Also, it was really more of a Tabby and Imogen show with the other liars seeming like subplots. Farrah was the most interesting imo but they didn't really flesh out her story very well. I think it does have potential to get better though so I guess we'll see how it progresses!

I'm surprised everyone else in the comments is really into this. Imogen's actress is not very good at acting, or her lines and direction were not done well. All the girls become best friends within like 10 minutes? It doesn't work like that. This gave me Riverdale cringe vibes every once in a while where the plot didn't make sense and the bad acting took me out of the moment. Original PLL was nonsensical camp, and it embraced it; this could've been an hour and a half standalone slasher that everyone watched and forgot about. Not sure if the shows are losing touch or if these spinoffs aren't meant for the original target audience or only new gen watchers.

I know people love this show and power to you everyone is allowed to like what they like but I just wanna know why exactly. This isn’t shade or hate it sarcasm, I’m actually asking because: 1. “A” is such a joke. He is sending the liars text messages that mean absolutely nothing and mean absolutely nothing. When “A” texts it’s usually to tell the liars that he/she knows one of their secrets, to take credit for something bad that happened to the liars or to get the liars to do something because he/she has something the liars want. This “A” is literally texting nonsense that means next to nothing for the sake of being creepy. 2. Also these girls all have secrets and from what I have gathered “A” knows none of them. He isn’t using them against the girls or anything. Like in the first episode we find out Tabby records the boys locker room and has a weird relationship with her boss. We also know that Faran has scoliosis and the father of Imogen’s baby may be sketchy. We find out more about the other girls but it seems like “A” doesn’t know anything and doesn’t do anything about it. 3. There’s also a whole bunch of unnecessary, waste of time jump scares. Like “A” is not gonna kidnap these girls or kill any of them. So why make us think that and resolve it in the most cliché way. Like Madam Giry walks in scaring Faran. 4. Also is “A” stupid? Why would they set up their operation at the school. Mona was a student and she was smart enough to work outside of school. Did they do that to kill the janitor we don’t care about. There’s so much more I feel is wrong with the show but I can’t say it without spoiling. This isn’t to spread hate about the show. I just wanna open a dialogue as to why people love the show so much and give it all this praise.

They are completely irrelevant to the story especially in the first three episodes and then the writers remember that it’s a story about “generational trauma” and make like 2 scenes of them talking and like two five minute flashbacks that literally don’t tell us anything we didn’t know. Their moms were b*tches. We could’ve figured that out ourselves. And those flashbacks literally do nothing to impact the story.

I've seen a theory that this person is trying to get back at moms and girls' bullies (for whatever reason). Tbh, this A is mostly a non-factor. I constantly forget they even exist. I'm more interested in the girls' relationships and that old story with Angela. In a sense, it looks like A is... helping them? Like, do everything to get girls detention and make them meet. There's more the toward Karen than them, honestly. Still, A could be an unhjnged serial killer running in the background for all I care; I'm focused on the girls and the 1999 case. Their stories make me like the show.

Everything about this show is Roberto and his riverdale style writing, but with the "A" decoration and the husk of PLL. I audibly cringed at the auteur lines and cinema references, like we don't need a Jughead in everything.

I am so sorry but I have watched so much tv on my days off that I had so much expectations for this spin off. It is on HBO in 2022 so it should be great, right? The script was god awful and the acting here is so cringe. It is bad when you could not quote a show, distinguish characters from the other, not have an inspirational look/outfit/makeup/hair or can't tell the decade it's supposed to be set because of the "twilight" lighting. I can't anymore with the random murder victims that don't follow a pattern and not reporting/recognizing this random killer with the same outfit and mask. I lost it when they mentioned the nurse can get a DNA done like LMAO who is reasearching this. They really tried to cram issues such as teen pregnancy, kidnapping, sexual assault, stalking and drug addiction but it was so superficial that it doesn't even leave any impression. I am trying my best to find good things in this show but it is hard. The OG PLL was not perfect but you could always count on the way they set up and create suspense. The only way this gets renewed is if an HBO has previous arrangements with its stars or creators.
