White border always looks cheap. At least do silver border or do full art border if they can't afford black border. White border makes it look like playing card stock with some fancy art on top (which I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what they ordered for prototyping) I also think there is something to be said about the text box. You have these massive text boxes beneath the art, and most of it is dead space. If you aren't going to fill that with more rules text, then put in reminder text, or make it smaller without reminder text. For the Volibear example, put a description of what "Exhaust" means beneath the paragraph. Also, have the card name at the top of the card. I don't know why they have it at the bottom, but literally no other card game does this. Just put it at the top so that way when you fan out the cards, you can actually read them without having to do some awkward finagling with your hands to figure out your different card names. Look at 3:17 What are the card names? Nobody knows (not even the guy holding the cards). All you see is the cost (and I assume the pips below are possible color requirements to play the card, which implies some sort of color'd mana system). But you don't see the card type, you don't see the card name, and you can barely see the card text. There's no way the white border versions are what are the final product. There has to be a lot more QOL testing or something for them to be like "oh yeah, people should actually be able to read the card name rather than figuring out the name once they remove it from their hand."

For those of you who don't play MTG or haven't watched commander gameplay (4 player format for MTG), I would like to quell your fears about late game strategies. If fact, late game cards in MTG are generally dismissed by 1v1 players as "Commander Cards" because you aren't given the time to ramp into them in competitive setting but generally have the time in 4 player settings. This is because it is 1v3 for everyone. This means that the people who are ahead get targeted and turn into Archenemies. People who are behind get left alone and get to make deals to beat who ever is ahead. Again, in really, really competitive circles (they are called CEDH or Competitive Commander) removal basically isn't played because it is easier to help yourself win instead of trying to spend your cards putting everyone else down. So they play counter spells to protect their combos instead of removal. Anyway hope this helps

For me the reason why this makes me so upset is that it feels as though our beloved game has already been taken out back and executed, only for a new shitty pretender to show up wearing its corpse (graphic but accurate). You can't blame Riot for axing LoR, money makes the world go round and personally I'm happy LoR has ANY support at all, WW and Ambesa no level up or voice lines? I'm not upset I'm happy there is content at all to do. This does make me upset because it really feels like Riot have turned a cheap cash grab in the Chinese market into an attempt to cash grab world wide since LoR is on the decine. "Oh your card game we axed because it makes no money is dead? Enjoy this physical game instead." The vertical frame of the physical cards often doesn't fit the artwork (which is a problem LoR also had sometimes when they were on board/mobile, but mitigated by the fact you could open them full-screen). The only way I was ever going to get hyped for this was if there was new and stylized card art. Can't wait for the physical card game to fail. The TCG market is a hard business to get into.

@dieptrieu65645 күн бұрын
@@fanficologist6621 LoR failed because of the generous monetization. They would be a big success if they follow the same monetization as HS or at least take marvel snap's approach. Shadowverse is a way more obscure OCG and it manage to be profitable for more than 8 years and they also released a TCG about 2 years before. So this is not a shocker that Riot is doing the same.

I hate to say it, but my friends that are into League of Legends are online... you know, the game series that is also entirely online ither than merch.. I just... don't know who this is for. LoR players get hurt by this with blatant shift of direction. LoL players will probably keep playing LoL, and all the TCG players already have MtG AND Pokemon to cover the bases and there just... isnt really room for another to be a middle ground

Seeing Riot reusing the art like that feels like a betrayal to all the current and former LoR devs, because they did all the heavy lifting creating the art and enriching the world of runeterra with new characters, places and stories and now that Riot deemed LoR a failed project, they're just trying to salvage as much as possible to recoup some of the investment. However, there's also a bright side to Riot reusing the artworks, because if they're sticking with the LoR art style, they'll have to create entirely new cards at some point, whose artworks will be compatible with LoR. So eventually Project K will take over LoR's job of expanding the world of Runeterra and creating new cards with new artworks, taking away some of the burden from the current LoR devs and allowing them to channel more resources into digital only stuff like level up animations or voice lines potentially.
@joshuajellybean3842 күн бұрын
On the bright side, in my opinion, one of the good things about this is the runeterra cards actually looks like cards now! Cause the one thing I didn’t like about LOR is that the cards didn’t actually look like playing cards they only looked like pictures with numbers on them while on the board. But now the art actually looks like real cards❤️

Multiplayer (Commander) is the MAIN way people play MTG now. There is a better scene and content for the multiplayer style of play then there is for 1v1. Mtg even shifted its production to gear to the multiplayer scene. Riot knows this and has this in mind.

@RenAki55 күн бұрын
@@joshelderkin9592 Yea, MTG likely isn't going anywhere. For the issues people have with it, Yugioh is just as crazy right now. There's been absolutely horrible formats for Yugioh in recent times, and people are getting tired. YGO also has a serious problem with obtaining new players. BUT, I don't see any of the 3 (Yugioh, Pokemon, and MTG) going anywhere anytime soon. I've dabbled in some of more fringe games (Force of Will), and they're still going after nearly 10 years, despite dropping the ball. Flesh and Blood has a great cult following, which is constantly growing A lot of the anime TCGs (Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc.) have also had a pretty solid following crop up of dedicated fans. One Piece especially kinda goes crazy. Cardfight Vangaurd has been around for a long time, and seems to still be going strong (Idk much about it though) and Lorcana has the mass appeal of Disney, which lets it exist even outside the cardgame and TCG space (similar to Pokemon). Ultimately, if Project K is actually a fun game, and isn't horrendously priced, I'm sure it'll last for a good while. Might not be the most well recieved on launch due to salt from us LoR enjoyers, but getting over that hurdle might end up giving us 2 great League card games (if Project K is good). Hard to say right now, because all we know is "Hey, we're making a TCG" and nothing about the actual mechanics yet.

13:35 to answer the question the viewer made from my pov: imagine riot shit the bed with runeterra, so much potential lost for a very awesome game, they cut support and reduce the team size and basically kill the main game mode (pvp). Runeterra players are sad because of this, and it happened months ago (like at the beggining of the year, around march/april). Now... Riots card game is on life support, they are doing the bare minimum to keep it alive and trying to make profit of it, no new pvp cards, no new expansions, all new content is for the pve mode that "most" people play but sucks the soul out of the game (the pvp) aspect. Then BAM, you see riot releasing a new card game (idc if its physical and plays completely different), its one of the final nails (of many) in the coffin for LoR. And fans are pissed because it feels like they focused on making an entire new game instead of saving the old one.
@axelwarriorvs3 күн бұрын
You say that it's unlikely, but I think it's 100% the case; Riot was like "our online card game isn't making enough money because our monetization is too generous and it's not available in China, how do we fix it?" and the answer was obviously "remake it as a gacha game and release in China" because that's how you make money if you're a gaming company

I don't hold a grudge, but I do think it's a really bizarre choice. Making a digital card game brings so many advantages - distribution gets easier, it opens up new and interesting mechanics options like Hearthstone's 'discover' keyword, etc. I can't see what would compel Riot to close down a digital card game and then make a new card game from the same IP, using a lot of the same art, in a physical medium. It's like shutting down WoW and releasing it as a board game.

everyone knows it's gonna flop. riot already has a card game. they could have made more monetization for LoR. they still decide to try and build a TCG from the ground up. they will have to compete with MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh. they still decide to make this. Riot is crazy. I just hope the devs get their salaries.
