This song is so important to me. "You will no longer stand between collapsing walls wearing a smile like you can't bear it anymore." I grew up in a religious cult, and it was terrifying and painful to leave, but it would have killed me to stay. I'm so much more hopeful now that I'm out of that. When he repeats "you will never be the same," it sound so much like a song we sang in church. But now it's a reclamation. I won't be what they made me ever again. There are so many ways to interpret Vessel's lyrics and Sleep Token's music, but Sleep Token's discography sounds so much to me like the process of deconstruction, pain, grief, and acceptance of leaving the church and finding hope in yourself.

I’ve officially been out of the church for 6 months. This is the exact same way I viewed this song. It helped me so so much. I break down and cry when he sings “you will never be the same” because I won’t. And it’s a bittersweet feeling of i’m finally free from all of that but also it caused a lot of trauma and pain. This song brings me a lot of comfort and it’s one of my favorites. I’m so glad i’m not the only one who interprets the lyrics this way. Much love to you on this journey. ❤

You're right with the layers on this one. For me, this was the song that gave me the lightbulb about how the whole journey from One through to Eden is reflective and self-referential rather than being typical lost-love songs. "And I am so ready, to tear that knife from what once would have been dead fingers" = pretty much all of Are You Really Okay? "you will no longer stand between collapsing walls" = Euclid (I can feel the walls around me closing in) "Wearing a smile like you cannot bear it anymore" = High Water (I'll smile through the agony for you) "Come on, tear off the bandage" = Atlantic (Bandage up the trenches) and maybe it's a stretch but I've felt there's a link with "The way that you were//You'll never be the same" to the various references to leaving one self behind and becoming someone new i.e. DYWTYLM, Euclid etc

And I feel like this is more just due to a low shooting budget, but the woman is the same one from the Jaws video. But it’s still nice to wonder if it’s got more symbolism. Honestly feels like a perfect one to end on in some ways. Well done, dudes. I’ve been watching since about 5 videos into TMBTE, and it’s been a joy watching y’all go through this journey. One of those songs that make me feel that we “trauma bonded”. Painful but also comforting. To me this one is about trauma and how it changes you. How you lose a version of yourself. It's hard to gain that lost self back or often, when it comes to trauma that you had to face early in your life, you don't even remember that lost version. All you have left is trauma responses. A very devastating topic yet he says it so well. At least for me. That and also “unhealthy coping strategies”. Even when you are aware of how much you hurt everyone around you with your unhealthy coping strategies you can't just stop doing them. It's is (was) very hard to stop. (I am so ready to tear that knife...please don't hurt yourself again...)

Thank you for this journey! It made me listen to their music more closely and pay even more attention to the lyrics and grasp more of their meaning, which had eluded me before with me not being a native speaker. Just like with this one. The line "you are too tired to control how you look like you feel like you should" hit me like a wall of bricks just now, even though I've listened to this song probably hundreds of times by now. I'm kind of sad this is now over, I've been looking forward to these reactions every week. But we do still have their cover of Loathe's "Is It Really You" left, which is an official release, and Vessel's live performance of Hellelujah, which I hope you will also react to in the future.
