In 1976, David Bowie and Iggy Pop co-wrote China Girl while in France just prior to their “Berlin Era”. The song itself originally appeared on Iggy’s 1977 album The Idiot, which was co-written with Bowie.

As far as i remember this song was about the oppression of Chinese women at the time. :) David Bowie had the most amazing voice! Some more songs to check out would be: Dead Man Walking, Wild is the Wind, Space Oddity and No Control. I saw him 3 times live and it was great! He also did a lot of movies, was a painter and a sculpturist, and he was also able to play 14 instruments. 😀

All my old boyfriends used to sing this song to me even though I'm 1/2 Japanese! It didn't bother me at all since I love Bowie, love this catchy little song, and none of them could sing worth a flip, so it was always hilarious!! Thanks for reminding me of so long ago. I've been married for 32 yrs now...he can't sing either LOL!!

I ask also love the Iggy Pop version, which David Bowie produced for him. He was kind of a mentor to Iggy Pop, which I really think you should react to some of his stuff. Like maybe The Passenger or Lust For Life would be a perfect entry point.
