In 1976, David Bowie and Iggy Pop co-wrote China Girl while in France just prior to their “Berlin Era”. The song itself originally appeared on Iggy’s 1977 album The Idiot, which was co-written with Bowie.

This was my favorite song to dance to in the club - back in the day! Still astonished I haven't lost my hearing, given that I used to dance next to speakers that were taller and wider than I was. 🤣

Good Day JM, The way you enjoy watching some of the legendary bands from the greatest era in music history is a real joy for those like me who lived those days as they happened. I wish it was possible to take you back in time with me to see the shows and feel the intensity and vibrations from the music and the crowds. The energy goes through you like an electric shock. As far as i remember this song was about the oppression of Chinese women at the time. :) David Bowie had the most amazing voice! Some more songs to check out would be: Dead Man Walking, Wild is the Wind, Space Oddity and No Control. I saw him 3 times live and it was great! He also did a lot of movies, was a painter and a sculpturist, and he was also able to play 14 instruments. 😀

All my old boyfriends used to sing this song to me even though I'm 1/2 Japanese! It didn't bother me at all since I love Bowie, love this catchy little song, and none of them could sing worth a flip, so it was always hilarious!! Thanks for reminding me of so long ago. I've been married for 32 yrs now...he can't sing either LOL!!

That's a load of shit!! As this IS A WOKE TRACK AND A WOKE VIDEO . Being about the objectification of "oriental" women, especially Vietnamese women ; the image of the model on her knees in "traditional costume"rising from the ground, in line with his pointed index finger is a visual reference to one of the most notorious photographs from the Vietnamese war showing the very instant when a Vietnamese man is shot point blank through the side of his head. Vietnamese women were brutally raped and degraded by American troops in that war who acted like all of their previous white Colonialist predecessors and those who followed them up to this day.Gaza being a perfect example of this grotesque white supremacist behaviour. "China Girl" is the essence of a woke work of art. It calls out the crime, through satire, parody, and historical references, while avoiding didactic oversimplification. To paraphrase the amazing Erykah Badu "Woke simply means to be alert to what's going on in the world around you, alert to the injustices, prejudices, and miscarriages of justice , especially as experienced by Black Citizens and other minorities" I for one can't see how that isn't a necessary state of mind for anybody and everybody to try to attain. " China Girl" is an exquisite pop polemic hybrid on America's disastrous foreign policy and military intrusions into such places as Vietnam and Cambodia, and arguably then to add insult to injury was followed with a fetishization of the suffering caused by the Hollywood movies of the late 70's into the 80's 😂 Much like how films like "Gone With the Wind" fetishised slavery and the plight of one race of people being owned by another, and produced solely for the pleasure of the dishonest and corrupted gaze of a white audience , cajoled into a rosey tinted view of the Deep Southern States of America while DC denying the brutal and barbaric reality of lynchings , brutal rapes and wholesale murders of black people in their hundreds of thousands, denied humanity, denied justice, denied their own " eyewitness experiences and the visceral "wokeness" thrust upon them day in day out , year in year out , decade in decade out

I ask also love the Iggy Pop version, which David Bowie produced for him. He was kind of a mentor to Iggy Pop, which I really think you should react to some of his stuff. Like maybe The Passenger or Lust For Life would be a perfect entry point.

I saw David Bowie live in 1983, it was a fantastic gig, 3 hours of greatest hits, Earl Slick played great guitar too. He died way too young.

i saw Bowie on this tour. WAS HE AMAZING AND GOD LIKE?? HAHAHA WHAT do you think? Also THE most outstanding toilets I have ever seen at an outdoor gig. Pure class, all the way.
