As a laborer, a shallow clip does add the benefit of easy aqusition, with the benefit of not having accidental squeezing of the clip while pulling out, which can cause it to grab the pocket edge.
@napalmholiday9708Ай бұрын
Yeah grabbing a deep carry clipped knife with a leather glove doesn't work very well, so I keep several users with their standard carry clip.
@LanningKann27 күн бұрын
Exactly how I see it. It’s nice that there are deep carry clips out there if someone wants one, but for trades and the profession of arms, easy acquisition is key. I need gloved access. Deep carry doesn’t work for me.
@freestatefellowАй бұрын
Love mine! It's exactly as you say, a big PM2. Oddly enough, that actually makes it less suited to use with gloves (not tactically, just cold weather use in the upper Midwest.) The military's liner lock was much easier to manipulate with gloves. Kinda wish they'd named this the PM4, and then made a military 2 with these ergos and a liner lock.

@@blairburrell2620 this is a folder, but not a small one... Lanyards are for people who really use their knives (camping, hiking, construction / trades), not for people who EDC their knives (cut boxes, threads, lunch).

I've had a Military 2 for like 7 months, s110v and crucarta. We're finally getting to it or something? I get rid of the lock stick by spinning the blade stop pin with needle nose pliers.

These look great. I'll have to get one eventually. My PM2 had super strong lock stick. After trying a few things, just putting some oil on the lock face. Working the lock and cleaning it worked it out fast.
@kkim5000Ай бұрын
oiling the lock face sounds like a recipe for disaster. the last place you want to be smooth and frictionless is the part where contact and friction are preventing the knife from closing on your fingers.

Mine had lock stick after I put new scales on it. I addressed it by removing the scale on the lock side, made sure it was positioned in a way where it was lined up well with the lock, and made sure not to over-tighten the screws. Much better now.

lol, Spyderco was born in the mountains, and popularized by the climbing community. Ya know, the guys that absolutely appreciate that annoying, outdated tube. Deleting that dedicated tie off point, due to the modern trending crybabies, would be like Carhartt prioritizing fashion trends over the tough work clothes that they were founded upon. It’s also a work knife, and would not benefit from “comfortable contouring” of the scales. If it would have improved the overall performance of the tool in any significant way, the Spyderco would have done it to this particular model. Everything about the Military 2 has been thought through to every last detail. But you know that
@vaugith1719Ай бұрын
The heel of the sharpened edge is a non-issue if you know how to sharpen. It's very simple to add in a sharpening choil with something as basic as the corner of a sharp maker stone. It's also very simple to grind that small smile down to extend the sharpened edge all the way to the edge of the finger choil. I have done both with zero problems. It's perfectly possible to make the area look fine after repeated sharpenings with either method.

The clip screws are pretty notorious for breaking or stripping. It seems their supplier has a spectrum of hardness, you may have just been lucky so far. I have 3 that I've had to move the clip on, only one I had a problem with was my blurple s110v pm2, one screw made it half way back into the scale then snapped below the scale line. I just left it cus I don't feel like talking the scales off and trying to back out the nub with pliers or something. Two screws hold it in place just fine.

@metal_complex although I completely agree with you on the tip theory. I will say my military 2 in s110v has picked up a couple chips near the tip from normal use. I think it has something to do with the length and the fact the blade tapers down so thin near the tip

It took me a long time to warm to Spyderco's. Their odd looks and the shallow carry on many of their folders put me off. I've gotten a lot of use outta my several Spydercos, but I'm pretty pissed with them atm. I sent in a knife they haven't produced in nearly 20 years to get a replacement pivot pin and they sent it back with a reprofiled blade, having taken 3/16" off the OAL of the blade and removed the trailing point (chinook 3). They treated me like I'm the idiot and that's how it was, but I have pictures from before and after. Now it can only be carried tip down because the point isn't completely in the handle. So as much as I like Spydies, I'm gonna pass for a while.
