I am also left eye dominant but right handed. I can shoot left or right handed depending on what is needed. I didn't start bow hunting until I was grown. This guy I used to drinking beer with used to tell me how hard it was to take a deer with a bow. I grew up running the woods with my dog and my gun never even thought about shooting a deer. So I argued with him that it couldn't be that bad. He set me up with an old Bear Bow that weighed a ton and some old aluminum shaft arrows whose diameter was about as big as my pinky finger. I practiced with it and got proficient with it. Looking back, the arrows were so slow you could just about snatch them out of the air if one was coming your way but they hit like a truck when they got there. Opening weekend he took me to where he hunted and put me in a stand. As I was getting my stuff ready I realized I had left my release laying on the table at home. I thought oh well I'm probably not going to see anything anyway. A couple hours later a nice little 6 point came by. He did everything he could to get me to shoot so I decided to take a shot using my just fingers. I had never tried it that away but I knew it could be done. I stuck it right in the shoulder and it looked as if the arrow didn't go in but about 2 inches. The adrenaline left me and I about froze to death. It wasn't even could out. After awhile I got down and took a look. I walked up to where I seen him go out of the woods into a field. Never really found any sign. I'm thinking Rick is never going to believe this. He'll swear I'm making it up to save face. I looked up when I reached the field and here come Rick. I looked up at him and said, well I stuck it now we just have to find it. He said, shiiiit that thing came crashing through the woods running for all it was worth. He said it scared the hell out of him at first because it was so quiet then it sounded like an elephant charging through. He said the arrow was still in it sticking straight up into the air and that if it would have slowed for half a second he would have shot it but it didn't. He said he watched it bust out into another field, jump a fence and run about a mile or two across open fields. He said he will be sore for awhile but he will most likely live.

Steve, were there any trees nearby that the arrow could have been dropped or thrown from? It kinda sounds like sasquatch behavior if so. I found an arrow sticking straight up out of the ground in an area that I know sasquatch were/are in...not saying that the arrow I found was definitely sasquatch related, but I thought of it when I listened to your story. Also, as you probably already know, sasquatch seem to have extraordinary memories...I've observed this in my interactions with them. Great stories!! Re the arrow find.... arrow not at ground level but only buried straight a couple feet deep in 6 ft of snow... so bear was out of its den during winter....no tracks near the arrow....OK since if dropped from the sky an arrow would drop straight my only theory is that unless the bear is under 2 ft of snow under the arrow a bird of prey perhaps a bald or a golden eagle was working on the dead bear carcass somewhere and taloned its take-away carrion meal which included the arrow. Arrow dropped out of the rotting flesh as the bird flew over the spot you found it. All I got!! Keep up the great vids!

I read a story of a conservation officer in Nunavut while on duty near Rankin Inlet who came upon a huge male polar bear. He was about 100 yards from his truck. The bear charged him he shot 3 times with a bolt action .460 Weatherby he said the bear dropped about 2 meters in front of him. He lost his job because carrying a weapon was not allowed at that time. I always carry too much crap into the woods. I am usually the guy that has the tool or gasket you need on top of the mountain somewhere. Once I was way out in the desert in Az on a rough trail in my truck(didn’t care about the scratches) and decided to take a break. I decided for no particular reason to drill into a river rock from a massive wash and screw in a stainless steel screw. I carried it up the wash and set it there on the bank. You couldn’t see it from the trail. I smiled at the thought of some fart walking by and seeing this screw sticking out of a rock 4-5 hours from pavement. About 4 years later I was at a garage sale in Mesa Az, there was my rock in some old guys rock garden in front of his house. He didn’t believe it was me until I told him where I left it. I also rummaged through my truck and produced a couple of identical screws. I also showed him my battery powered Makita hammer drill I always carry. I spent an hour swapping stories with him. I never met him before or again. What is the chances of that one screwed up rock 4 years later showing up again at a random garage sale. I rarely go to a garage sale at that. Just one of those things I guess. Stumpy got a kick out of it as well. He was an old cowboy who lost his middle finger roping a wild cow and caught it in his lariat. So they called him stumpy. He actually tried to sell me my rock and screw back for $25. I told him I will just make my own again.
