Sonic's stories are Fundamentally Weak Now

I think everyone knows this by now, but the stories are going so far downhill that they simply need to cease. Sort of a video essay, sort of an unbridled mess after 2 weeks, along those lines... pls enjoy i'm begging

Why the fuck wouldn't they just simplified the Phantom Ruby's powers by saying that the user has the ability to distort and manipulate reality at will. WHY do they have to be fucking illusions if they are actual physical magnification of the actual real THINGS--- That doesn't make any goddamn sense. WITH REALITY manipulation too, you could have Infinite be a character that's suffering with trauma as person who constantly questioning about his reality, and coming to terms that nothing that surrounds his world is real. Infinite's Main Theme PLAYS around the fact he's aware that his world is a fake, and trying to tell Sonic that he's living a goddamn lie. WHY didn't they do this? IT'LL MAKE HIM SUCH A TRAGIC CHARACTER! Even the Phantom Ruby's powers give off a glitchy, and virus vibe whenever it's used--- HECK NULL SPACE COULD REPRESENT THE OUT OF BOUND VOID THAT YOU GET TRAPPED INSIDE OF MOST GAMES! I don't want Infinite to be a generic character that knows he's fiction or fake--- Always breaking the fourth-wall, I actually want him to suffer a goddamn existential which is why he's always so moody and apathetic towards everybody. He only sees the main cast as code, not as people which is why he doesn't mind killing EVERYONE.

Maybe they should just stop this darkness in Sonic media. I mean, the characters don't even treat bad/dark situations as they should be treated, instead, they're just laughing and happy all the god damn time, like the characters from Barney, dare I say. I'm not against darkness being in Sonic, but if the characters are going to act like nothing bad is happening, why put darkness in there in the first place?

@@segaspice4062 I think SA2 did a good job with it’s tone but I don’t think the story is perfect and no I’m not counting the presentation as it was 2001 game and I actually like anyways so it’s no problem for me. The writing isn’t perfect but it is at least for decent parts (terrible grammar) well written. I still think World Adventure and Heroes story telling is the way to go imo.

The the thing is sonic from 1991 to 2009 there games were usually aimed towards everyone ans not just kids thats why stories from the early 2000 had darker tones and mentions death when i was a kid and teen i used to call the early 2000 sonic shonen or anime because of how dark the stories were.

Wanna know how to fix these characters? Revert them back to how they became before Free Riders because it legit is a terrible idea to retcon everything and keep them that for future games, there was no need to change Sonic after Black Knight because his personality was perfect and Shadow in 06 is wiser and a better character, Shadow is even willing to work with Sonic and understand he has to in order to get out of the Post Apocalyptic Future.

About Tails cowering: I think it was to do with when Vector said something about him going "crazy" or something. Vector overexaggerated though imo. It was quite out of character for him. Either way, I agree with this video, and I really liked it! Forces has way too many problems...

Ya know the sad thing is even Sonic asked for Tails to help to do something but no Tails nothing but watch as Sonic gets his ass whooped at the beginning of the game. Oh the best part ya Pontac and Graff admitted they know about Sonic games nothing about the characters and just watched cutscenes from before colors what I call bullshit Sonic and other Sonic characters never ever acted like this til colors to forces so I'm glad Pontac and Graff are finally fucking gone just watch the clip of Pontac from talking shit about fans to not knowing Obot and Cubot are new characters so glad they're gone hopefully we get better writers that played past 3d Sonic games from before colors and will do these characters justice I'm worried how can they fix these characters personalities or restore the characters to what they once we're unless they reckon colors to forces.

Gameplay, it is horrible for the first time experience but actually learning what works and utilizing the games movement, it's really fun (not involving the glitches but speedrunning is on a whole other level). Also music is just too good

Even the sound track to Forces sounds dark and serious. Heck... it's the sound of war is going on and high stakes. If you listen to the very first song is the Resistance title them. It sounds dramatic and serious....like something bad is going to happen. Its all about the tone and the sound track delivers it in spades..... as long as you minus Classic Sonic Songs. And also just to hammer the point... The last battle against Robotnik Doom Robot. The 2nd segment with the Rookie. If you listen closely to the music you can hear drums playing.... and not just any drums, Marching drums. the kind of drums you hear that war is starting. The sound track to Forces is amazing.... It just sucks that it's tied to Sonic Forces.

Wow this guy sounds like he really hates himself. Good video though. I kinda want to play Forces just to experience how bad it is. I have to think of the Manga/Anime series Made in Abyss becuse I am a bit overobseesed with it. That series does a fantastic job balancing dark and serioes moments and funny, lighter and hapier moments. They complement each other instead of chiping away on each other. And when he talks about the tourture stuff...well spoiler alert I had to think of Regs tourture scene. When Reg got his armed cut off he recovered and adaptet pretty fast and I found that actully pretty cool but we still see him suffer. The scream, the expresion, the blood and when they escape him colapsing after he pulled Riko and Prushka out of the room. The characters in that show are pretty strong in there own way and they bounce back fast from hardships but they still feel vulnurable. I love that series.

Much as Characters In-Depth said about the current state of stories in the games, post Black Knight, If the characters don't care enough about what's happening, then why should we? It'd be nice to see the series regain its sense of self respect again, rather than it feeling like reveals in its own mediocrity, as it did in the Boom TV show, with its self deprecating humour. However rather than making jokes about it, why not actually take steps and actually try to fix things instead? Its just a thought.

It was promising a darker story that would compete with the Dark Age and that mess up was proof those writers especially Pontaff were & are unreliable to do anything like that, things could've been different if they got it right but they didnt, plus I had to go back to older games like Unleashed, Zero Gravity and Secret Rings, playing them while playing games like Gens and analyzing older cutscenes, it was a clear sign to me the 2010s scripts were a huge mistake, retconning all development of every character at the time of Black Knight was a mistake.

Every series story is not perfect or doesn't have to be the best story of all time this is just a hedgehog that goes fast it's some what understand why the story now a days are light harded & every thing just happens in a series when it comes to story But I understand what people are coming from at the end of the day This is Sonic the hedgehog being him not him being some other series to have a dark story

I still think the gameplay is one of the more important parts that are weak I think they should’ve refined the gameplay as it needs room for improvement from Generations like the physics/controls. Adventure 1&2 still has the best controls in a 3D Sonic game and I’ve played fan games (like that short SA3 GKA fan game) that plays better then the official product (Generations controls). That’s my opinion of course but I do think they should either improve the 3D Rush gameplay or go back and improve the Adventure gameplay I’ve already done a list of how Sonic Team (hopefully a new workers that understands the franchise) can improve upon it from SA1 & SA2. I think the stories should go the route of World Adventure since I like the more simple yet epic story telling and World Adventure while not perfect is still the best imo when it comes to characters, presentation and how well the structure of the story is. Beginning sets up the main plot from the CGI cutscene alone then Sonic and Chip needs to restore the Chaos Emeralds power and form earth again. Middle is doing just that while Sonic and Chip/Light Gaia formed a friendship. End is the climactic battle with Sonic and Light Gaia going up against Dark Gaia (who wasn’t shown but was talked about throughout the story) and Light Gaia forming the Gaia Temple Megazord and Sonic using the restored Chaos Emeralds becoming Super Sonic once again. After defeating Dark Gaia everything is normal and Light Gaia says his farewells to Sonic and then Sonic wears a bracelet (which I think he should’ve continued wearing and run with it imo). This imo was the best well structured plot that I think it’s horribly underrated and I think it deserve more praise and again not just it’s structure and story telling alone it’s also the presentation and voice acting (which I forgot to list it). SA2 is good but it’s pretty flawed but I’m still looking for more like World Adventure or Heroes since again a simple story is the way to go and while Heroes is cheesy it can also still be enjoyable and well written. One last thing is whatever tone they go with in a future game they just do simple thing and that’s doing a good job at it that’s all I have to say. Go with whatever idea they have and run with it (referring what Sonic Forces did wrong which is not running with the idea). That’s all I have to say

Unpopular opinion, but I still don't think that the story to Unleashed is as good as everyone claims it is. I hated the way it threw most of the established canon and lore out of the window, along with the majority of the supporting cast (thanks to the "Sonic's Stupid Friends" crowd), and substitutes it with a bunch of stuff no one asked for. If they wanted to utilize a brawling mechanic, then they already have Knuckles, who is pretty much perfect for that role! And I still don't understand Chip's appeal! When it comes to Sonic's friends, people seem to get some kind of enjoyment mindlessly bashing them and nitpicking any reason to call them bad, and yet suddenly Chip gets off scott free? We can't have Tails because he's an "annoying cutesy flying sidekick" but we can suddenly have Chip? Give me a break! I'd much rather see Sonic's world and lore being explored and delved into more, and I want to see already established characters getting fleshed out and utilized to the best of their potential! If there really is a problem with "Too Many Sonic Characters" then surely shoving them all to the sidelines and replacing them with a whole bunch of new one-time characters who will never be seen, heard of or mentioned ever again is NOT an improvement? Isn't that just making things worse? Not to mention, characters such as Elise, Shara, Chip and Merlina all have the exact same issues. They all become Sonic's brand new BFF (while all of his previous friends get completely ignored and are barely allowed to do anything that justifies them even being there), the story is always more about them than about Sonic, they're all sad for some reason and Sonic seems to solve all of their problems by just being himself and/or giving some corny speech or generic phrase like "Just smile" or "it's ok to cry" and then like that they're gone! Seriously, doesn't anyone else get a Chris Thorndyke vibe from this? Yeah, I'd take Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Blaze, or even Big the Cat over that any day of the week!
