Dusty Hill did the lead vocals on Tush. From Wikipedia….”As the closing song in their setlists for many tours "Tush" would be the last song Hill would sing. After the death of Hill in 2021, the band performed the song for the first time on July 30, 2021, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with Gibbons placing Dusty's hat on his microphone then Gibbons taking lead vocals to the song. A few tour dates later on August 6, Gibbons told the crowd “We’re going to have Dusty singing through the magic of Memorex.” The band would now end their concerts by playing the song along to an audio vocal recording from Hill's last performance.”❤️

I got to see their first concert in an old airplane hanger off pacific coast highway around 1976. It had become a bar and the stage was the bar. Cleared the floor and WHAM !!! Their last tour at SDSU outdoor amphitheatre, still AMAZING. Glad I recorded most of it.. Thanks, great tribute 🙏 ❤️

Saw them in Missoula, MT shortly after Dusty died. It was a boiled-down show - 3 old dude playing the blues. And it was awesome! While I wish I'd seen them back in the Afterburner days in the 80's, I finally got to see the legends perform live.

The nick name for them is "The Little Ol' Band from Texas"... You ought to try one of their old bluesy songs like the medley "Waitin' for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" or "Blue Jean Blues". Billy Gibbons played a fictional version of himself in the TV show "Bones". He played the father of one of the characters (Angela). When one of the other characters was dating her he got him drunk and had a portrait of her tattooed on him.

The actual meaning of this song is not what it seems to be, although the band does acknowledge that it can be taken as such. Now, I am not a Texan, so I may not have this 100% right. The story goes that back in their youth the term "tush" could be the equivalent of what today is called "bling" or "swag." A person who showed off their wealth with their clothes, cars and such were know as "tush hogs." Dusty wrote the song about wanting to be a tush hog and having all of the stuff that goes along with it.
@aussiebloke609
@aussiebloke609 2 жыл бұрын
Bit of both, actually - they've also admitted it meant getting a piece of ass. As Billy Gibbons once said, "We had the advantage of that dual meaning of the word "tush." It's that secret blues language - saying it without saying it."

Saw them live. So amazing, I think it was 2008. Even though they were older they had so much energy and the vocals and instrumentals were on point. They had to take away a woman who had stripped down naked and tried to climb up to the stage lol. My cousin and I were sitting on a coke box at my Aunts store and they walked in. Great concert, their Texas Worldwide Tour. I was born and raised in Texas. They had Corral fences on stage, a live Longhorn comes out on one side of the stage and Buffalo on the other side. Eagles flying from the stage and back!! My mother lived down the street from the Manager. A lot of sound coming from them!!!

It is Dusty Hill, the bass player (who recently passed) who is singing this particular track. According to Billy Gibbons, "tush" in this song is the Southern term meaning "plush, deluxe." But Billy has been known to BS sometimes, so take it as you will ZZ Top has a wide range of influences based on what they heard growing up from the outlaw radio stations across the border (where there were no transmission power limits, so they could he heard all over the South and sometimes up North too), and Billy having a cool baby sitter that took him to all the good music venues as a child. But I'd say the most prominent are rhythm and blues, boogie, country and rock. A very Texas style of Southern rock, and practically their own genre.

Hey guys greetings from Fort Worth, Texas. I absolutely love you guys! A little fun fact……. I used to teach at a local trade school and nd I absolutely adore music. I became close to one of my fellow instructors who will remain anonymous. Anyway, he is a bit older than me and he always had interesting stories that he told. One day during a tell all he asks, “Have you heard this band and that band”? And then he says, “Have you ever heard of [The Moving Sidewalks]”? I said no who were they? He says, “They were a local band back in the 1960’s comprised of Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard (who ironically doesn’t have a beard and my friend and co-worker”!! Can you just imagine working alongside the predecessor of Dusty Hill!!! Anyway, I’ve always loved ZZ Top and will always have a soft spot Mr………. ahhhhh anonymity!!!!! Y’all should check out “Bluejean Blues”! It is probably their most laid back song so don’t play it during parties. Keep up the great work guys!

Billy F Giibbons was initially in a band called the Moving Sidewalks and they were locally popular in Houston. They were able to open some shows for some bigger name acts and in 1968 were approached by the management of the Jimi Hendrix Experience to be the opener on their tour. Obviously, they gladly accepted. However, when they were informed that they were expected to perform a 40 minute set they didn't have enough original material and decided they'd have to play the 2 new cover songs they had rehearsed, which happened to be Foxey Lady and Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. The first night of the tour, Jimi is watching from side stage with arms folded. When the band came off stage, Hendrix approached Gibbons and said, “You got a lot of nerve kid. I like that.” Hendrix reportedly once responded to the question, what does it feel like to be the greatest guitarist? with the answer, “I don’t know, go ask Billy Gibbons.” Also search YT for Billy talking about Prince. Very interesting.

There are some great stories told about ZZ Top, who despite their money and fame stayed very grounded and humble. Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill were traveling alone driving through West Texas heading back home to Houston. Towns in West Texas are few and far in between. They get off in one of these small towns for gas and a snack. They then noticed an old building with a sign that simply noted that it was a Bar. There were about 20 vehicles parked around it and I think all were pickup trucks. I can assure you that the guys inside were a pretty rough crowd. Upon entering the bar, they noticed everyone turn to see who just came in. They were probably hoping it was a couple of local cowgirls but when they saw who it was, they simply couldn't believe their eyes. I mean what in the hell were the chances that these two famous Rock Stars would be joining them in this run-down West Texas bar. As they stared in shock the first words said was from Billy Gibbons who yelled " All drinks are on me, so drink up". After many drinks, handshakes, hugs and pictures they departed and gave those cowboys a memory that they will never forget.

Honestly, there’s a Texas side to every genre! Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Edie Brickell, Norah Jones, Susan Gibson, Townes Van Zandt, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Willis Alan Ramsey, Robert Earl Keen, Talking Heads, Spoon, Slim Richie, Asleep At The Wheel, Soul Hat, Lightning Hopkins, Alejandro Escovedo, Black Pumas, Jackie Venson. All have some kind of uniquely Texan influence, and all are incredible.
