Iirc , they youngest known to serve in the British Army in WW I ,was 12 years old. The 2 older gentlemen in the doorway were Mikki and Phil, the 2 remaining members of Motorhead. Love that Sabaton included them, class act. The man carrying Lemmy's picture is Eddie Rocha, current Sabaton tour manager, and former Motorhead tour manager. The cello over the end credits was played by Tina Guo, she has worked with Sabaton several times, has even joined them on stage, including for "Swedish Pagan's" at Wacken 2019.

Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead wrote "1916" after watching a documentary on the Battle of the Somme where a veteran of the battle talked about holding his best friend as he died. The Motorhead version is very stripped back, while this is more epic and Sabton has included soldiers from throughout history who fought and died for their homelands. Both versions are incredible and I feel complement each other nicely. A fitting tribute to both Lemmy and those who gave all for their countries. RIP, you are all missed and appreciated. The two images that always get me are the soldiers marching off into the mists of history and the young soldier at the end, standing in the middle of the desolation, glancing at the sky as if asking God why. You should react to the music video of Sabaton's "To Hell and Back" where the issue of PTSD is discussed as it applied to Audie Murphy.

Really worth watching is the Making Of documentary for this video. As you said it was a nice touch to credit everyone involved. In addition all the soldiers depicted are based on real people throughout history and their names are given in the credits. My grandmother’s older brother (Harold Brown) was 14 the first time he tried to enlist. After a second failed attempt he finally succeeded in 1918 (still only aged 16), fortunately the war ended not too long afterwards.

As people have stated in the comments, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. The two guys standinh in the door opening at 4:01 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The picture is of Lemmy Kilmister, the bassist and singer of Motörhead and the guy holding it is Eddie Rocha who was the tour manager of Motörhead and the current one for Sabaton.

Great reaction!🤘My oldest daughter is 16 years old, my youngest is 15. They will be drafted. But that doesn't mean that they pass all the tests to be called out on the field. But they can get other duties such as technical, medical or sitting in a bunker, like their father did (he's an engineer). But all 18 year olds, girls and boys, will be called here in Sweden. Of course I don't want to see them on the battlefield. On the other hand I will encourage them to do whatever they can for the safety of the Kingdom of Sweden. For our democracy and freedom. For our neighbors and allies, since we now are members of NATO. We have an ongoing war close by, in Europe. Now I don't believe that we will have a war within our borders in nearly future, but we still need to be prepared.

That's the part that broke me. I can't imagine that fear and pain...and as a mother I could never imagine not being there if my child needed me...but in this case, those mothers couldn't hear their sons...oh the gut punch that thought delivers...

The Battle of the Somme started 53 years, possibly to the minute, after the Battle of Gettysburg which became the bloodiest battle on American soil. The Somme Offensive succeeded in relieving pressure on Verdun which led to a French victory there. Those men did not die in vain.

One real sad reality here is that the England that these tragic young men fought and died for, in large part, no longer exists. I feel sure they would be appalled to know this.

And here's my obligatory mention of a cool and more than just a little creepy detail for those who know: Around the middle of the video the crowd/parade comes across a lovely early 20th century ecru-coloured convertible that's standing abandoned in the middle of the street. This is the car that *Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria* and his (morganatic) wife *Sophie Chotek, Duchess Hohenberg* bled to death in on the 28th of June 1914 in Sarajevo, touching off what is sometimes poetically called *The Seminal Tragedy* a.k.a.* The July Crisis* which then obviously led to *The Great War,* sometimes referred to, and quiet correctly so, as *The Apocalypse of the Old World.* (If you are reader you can see strong echos of this both in Tolkien's work as well as, in different but equally powerful ways, in H. P. Lovecraft's writings.) This one empty car in a very real sense is the *Pale Horse Conquest* rode in on with *War and Pestilence and Hunger* in it's train. This is the event that effectively triggered the so far most bloody period of human history, the time of the World Wars - and make no mistake, we might call the 21years between the declared World Wars "the interbellum" but the brutal truth is that there where wide stretched of Europe and Asia where there *never was* peace between 1914 and ~1950 - with good reason some historians call this period "The Second 30-Years War". I also feel it's a signifier of the level of knowledge that Sabaton by now has reached in dealing with historical matters, especially when compared to their initial albums. Best regards Raoul G. Those 'Boy's" back then were a lot older than today's 16 year old's. Many had hard and dangerous jobs working in the coal mines. The youngest English Soldier who lied about his age and served with distinction twelve-year-old Sidney Lewis. He fought in this Battle. That generation is very different that the ones today. Now it's all about me. I do not mourn for those lost but I thank God Men like them existed.

I did some researching and found that all the names of the soldiers, knights and Spartans in the end were real people. Many of the soldiers were Medal of Honor, Silver Star, Victoria Cross or Croix de Guerre recipients. The soldier pulling himself out of the mud, at first I thought he was a member of "The Smoking Snakes" (Força Expedicionária Brasileira, FEB, nicknamed Cobras Fumantes), but doing some more research with the patch on his shoulder as well as his helmet, that's Sgt Henry Johnson of the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, aka "The Harlem Hellfighters". Medal of Honor recipient and recipient of French Croix de Guerre avec Palme, France's highest award for valor. The Medal of Honor was awarded to him in 2015. Sgt. Henry Johnson is "one of the five bravest American soldiers in the war." Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in his book "Rank and File: True Stories of the Great War" The Asian soldier with the cocked-hat, that's a Nepalese Gurka named Havildar Gurung (per the credits) who earn the Victoria Cross in the Burma campaign off WWII. Sgt Awal Nur, who did a secret mission over the Himalayas. Lt. Audie Murphy, Sgt. Alvin York are both medal of honor recipients from WWI (York) and WWII (Murphy). I also notice a soldier with the Croix Lorraine on what looks like a French flag arm band, meaning he was a member of the 'Forces françaises libres' forces in WWII. Doing some reading I found out that a large number of French colonial troops from territories such as Chad had joined with the 'Forces françaises libres'. I suspect that soldier is Lt Comba, but I can't find anything on him. As I've been working my way through the names listed in the credits and found another one: Private George Stringer, Manchester, Awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Es Sinn in Mesopotamia. Capt. Dobson, 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, Killed on 9 July 1916 in Flanders.

Great video, i don't mean to assume but im guessing your American so not to patronise for many brits especially those who in the North of England (the county's of Lancashire and Yorkshire and more)this hits hard because there was a known belief that at the Somme that of course 'they sent the northern boys in first' because high command deemed these young men as uneducated and simple-minded so they were too stupid to know what awaited them and some were as young as 14 but they still tried to do what they could for King and country. Still great reaction and as a brit im glad that others know what happened at the battle of the Somme.

No I'm actually not American. I'm Canadian who is now living in the US (my husband is American) and I'm the daughter of a Brit 😊 I try to educate myself on these things as much as I can. Those children were just insignificant peons to the war machine. It's a tragedy that should have never happened. I feel the same way about war now tho. So much human loss so that it keeps the military industrial complex going. 😞

When I first made it to Afghanistan, the first thing that got into my mind was that I might run out of water, but thankfully didn't, but instead ran out of morality. The Afghans were skilled fighters, and every night, I held my M4A1 by my side in case of a night attack

It goes without saying, that War is Nightmare fuel, and nothing like what we see in Movies, but sometimes we need to be reminded of what war is really like. As a sitenote, in Denmark, there have been passed a Law where Women will be drafted and have to serve in the Army just like Men, this will start after next election. I'm think Sweden have something similar but I'm not certain. And you are absolutely correct, todays generations will be known as the generation that got offended on other behalf, sorry this is not to be polical but its just rubs me the wrong way. Actually, the deadliest battle in history was the Battle Of Stalingrad in WW2. The Battle of the Somme was one of the deadliest, but not THE deadliest.

Great reaction Realistic and well said at the end, spot on. Sabaton has done their research I like how they have the Aussie flag flying in some of the scenes. Some people say that the smaller nations put in a little bit of help? 60 thousand killed in action is hardly a small amount.

Australia's total population at the time was about 4 million, and the 416,809 who enlisted for service represent 38.7 per cent of the total male population aged between 18 and 44. Of these, an estimated 58,961 died, 166,811 were wounded, 4098 went missing or were made prisoners of war, and 87,865 suffered from sickness. A small contribution pfft! This is heart breaking for a small nation, this is why the Aussie flag is flying in a Sabaton music video clip they know the deal. Australia also had no conscription or draft they were all volunteers. Thanks Real for taking the time to reply not many reactors do.
