Floor wrote a song about PTSD: 'Invincible'. This song would be sung by her at the opening of The Invictus Games which were going to be held in The Netherlands, but were cancelled due to the Covid situation. The song would get very personal for her later when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily it was in an early stage, so only a minor operation was necessary. It is now part of her solo album 'Paragon' which can be described with one word: empowerment.

You could call this a test of humanity. They are absolutely unparalled in what they do. Joakim (vocals) and Par (Bass) are the hart and soul of this band. They went through a complete renewal of the line-up because the rest at the time did'nt want to go all in, they did and managed to reach a very special place in the heart of many many fans. How they approach the history of war is unique. They don't glorify war, they don't choose sides, but they highlight the humanity of soldiers, the depth of their courage and sacrifice. They make you proud of soldiers of many nations, because you are proud of their humanity. And Sabaton use their music to tell their stories, so they are never forgotten. They show a respect and an understanding that is rare. Sabaton and Nightwish have some connections. They are the best storytellers, they don’t play music, they play feelings, they have the most amazing couple in metal and they have the most devoted fanbase. If there is a war in metal, the Nightwish Army and the Sabaton Army would be allies. Hannes (drummer) once said when Sabaton was traveling with Nightwish, he saw this woman with a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other hand, and knew immediately this woman he will marry. Her name is Floor Jansen !!! It is a deep rabbithole, but extremely rewarding, if you are open to those stories. 🤘😎🤘.

@@MrsRealistic For En Livstid I Krig, I would recommend the live performance at Gothenburg. Be sure subtitles are on for this one, since the song is in Swedish. The lyrics are always important with Sabaton. For 1916, I recommend the official music video. I would suggest leaving subtitles off on 1916; they show up a little too soon. For Bismarck, I definitely suggest watching the official music video before watching a different version or a cover.

My favourite Christmas video, this usually makes me cry twice (when Hannes steps out of the trench and when Pär is carving on the cross), today being no exception. Thank you for listening all the way - it's always worth doing that with Sabaton, sometimes there are surprises but even if not I feel credits should be honoured. Their songs are usually about the best of humanity during war - the bravery, compassion, ingenuity - or the tragedy of its loss. As someone else said, they are anti-war but pro-soldier. "Lest we forget" could be their motto. This video hit me hard when it first came out, because I had recently learned that my country (the UK) had sent soldiers to fight and die abroad every single year since 1914. I doubt that's changed in the last few years, either. It's the song that turned me into a Sabaton fan, and I am fortunate enough to have seen them live in Leeds, so experienced an arena singing along to the chorus where the instruments drop out while fake snow fell all around. Go see them if you get the opportunity, it's quite the show! Next steps would include _1916_ (music video) and _No_ _Bullets_ _Fly_ (animated STORY video) - two more songs that make me cry. Enjoy yet another rabbithole...

Pro tip: when looking at Sabaton songs to react to, take a look at The Sabaton History Channel first. TSHC does an entire breakdown of the events, people and history of the story behind the song that Sabaton wrote to commemorate. I would suggest looking at Ghost in the Trenches if you would like to see a fellow Canadian being celebrated. A sniper in WWI, and the highest decorated First Nations soldier of The Great War. 1916 is a great song (written by Lemy and first performed by Motothead). It's a god aweful powerful song, but one that everyone should know about. Attack of the Dead Men is one of my personal favorite Sabaton History instalments. When it comes to what song you wish to do next, it's irrelevant, just pick one. They are all great. And Sabaton fans want to see you react to all of them, so just look for what interests you and GO FOR IT! We have faith in you. You won't go wrong.

The only thing I can add is this: On another reaction, I once read something that shocked me. It was from a gentleman in Europe who said that if not for the Christmas Truce, he would not exist. This was because during the 1914 Truce, his grandfathers met each other on the field that day. After the war, the two men became friends, and later, became related, as their families married into each other. That being said, it should be noted that after the Truce in 1914, one German commander ended up moving his men to another section of the front line, as his men refused to fire on the men they had made friends with the day before.

The album Carolus rex they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) from when Sweden was a much bigger nation with ambitions of expanding. The album was released with both an Swedish and English version, the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldiers view while the English is more from an outsiders view of the war. It is the Swedish version they played at that show so be sure the subtitles are on, I was at that show and all I can say is that you will not regret it.

great reaction, more Sabaton please. Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music. Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 120 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) . Sabaton videos are often have dedications and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it. Animated STORY videos (short Animated history lessons with music videos in them) No bullets fly, enemy showing mercy to injured aircrew in a nearly wrecked aircraft barely still flying, even escorting them to safety. Night witches, Young (17-28) female bomber pilots in ww2 fighting the Nazi despite the discrimination they faced and being given obsolete equipment, aircraft ... Lady of the dark, female fighting alongside men during ww1 and being highly respected and even more decorated. Red baron, the famous fighter pilot of ww1 first soldier, unlikely French hero in ww1. Epic ORIGINAL videos. Bismark, about the sinking of the ship you just saw Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914 40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 (with odds actually close to 55:1 they held for 3 DAYS when ammunition and supplies ran out. Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944. To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face. Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there. Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge Live performances 40:1 from poland Uprising from poland En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war. Two covers that are good Defence of Moscow, self explained 1916 about the devastating battle of the somme in ww1, casualties topped 1 milion if you count both sides, all for 6 miles of ground, these are just some, there are plenty more.

If you want to shed some tears, then watch the animated version of "No bullets fly" about the Brown-Stigler incident in 1943. Keep tissues in reach.

I dont know how extensive this was but i read that the ppl in charge on both sides hade to move troops around on the front becouse no one wanted to be the 1 that restarted the fighting and the ppl in charge was worried that they wouldent fight as hard as they could after having this short peace time.
@MrsRealistic9 ай бұрын
I read the same thing. The higher ups needed them to keep fighting and the soldiers didn't want to fight the men who had just become friends. :(

This is a masterpiece in every respect: musically, lyrically, visually. There have been quite a few songs written about this event (as should be!), but this is hands down, no contest the BEST! “No Bullets Fly” the animated story video would be a GREAT next foray. As you did with this one, watch all the way to the end!

for one day in 1917 humanity won the war in the real Christmas truce it started with the Germans singing "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht" the song we know as Silent NIght, then the allies started singing it too.

You said you found conflicting info on things like how long the unofficial "truce" lasted. That's because there wasn't just one. It happened spontaneously all along the Western Front. Sometimes it was a German soldier first, sometimes an Allied one. Sometimes the first soldier started a chain reaction, sometimes he was shot and killed. Sometimes the Germans won the football game, sometimes the Allies did. Some lasted one say, some for longer.

I've watched several #reacts to this, and there is an interesting anecdote how I ended up here. By way of a Christmas Greeting from an aunt of mine, she attached a video to her WhatsApp message, which was a more hymnified equivalent of this Christmas Truce track. I can't exactly send her the Sabaton track (she is not that progressive), so I asked my AI P/A to find other Christmas Day equivalents from either war. It could not, but this is where the story gets really interesting . it throws up eye candy with each answer, and usually 5 or 6 piccies. This time only one, and guess what ... it was an image and a link to this very review. Well done Mrs. R, you're now in the database of one of the respected AI /LLM agents.
Best Christmas song ever! Can't remember that Mariah at all anymore... :D

Even though history says Germany lost, no one won in either wars. The loss of life in this war paled in comparison to the loss to the spanish flu that was a direct result. So many young wasted lives for nothing.

You should watch the British Sainsbury's Christmas add for the Christmas Truce its beautiful. Sadly the Christmas Truce was a symptom of a young war the generals didn't really need to do anything to stop the war itself would see to that by 1915 both sides used gas and other horrific tools all sympathy was gone.
@MrsRealistic7 ай бұрын
That's how they get people to war with the "other side"... they dehumanize them... makes it easier to see them as the "bag guy"... even if as individuals they aren't.
@samuel101257 ай бұрын
@MrsRealistic I can only speak really from my view as a Brit and I'm sure there was other reasons Empire related but we did get involved because Germany invaded Belgium and while I know you definitely don't want to hear it in 1914 the Rape of Belgium did happen the Germans pretty much gave the allies all the ammunition they needed for their propaganda and the Germans did some really horrible things. So when you look at it from that lense you start to understand some of the reasons like with the Christmas some did but the vast majority of French troops didn't take part why would they celebrate with the very people trying to kill them and take their territory Britain did because we only came to the Aid of a neutral allie who we had promised protection if invaded. The war is incredibly complex more than people realise and yet it still arguably caused the greatest suffering we have ever experienced as a species.
@MrsRealistic7 ай бұрын
@samuel10125 absolutely... there's nuance and it's so complicated, I can't pretend to know all the ins and outs. War is awful. Innocent people die and soldiers are maimed and left with emotional scars for life after trying to "defend" their country. I often wonder if it really solves anything.

Yes, that was Floor doing the outro vocalization over the credits. Floor's husband Hannes is silhouetted. How ironic you mentioned PTSD. Floor has a song on her latest solo record call "Invincible". Sabaton does a song on PTSD "to hell and back" it's about Audie Murphy (and is also the name of the drum riser which is the shape of a tank that is used on stage) Cliffs of Galipolli please? ANZAC Day is on the 25th and is an ode to the soldiers that fought and died during the Galipoli campaign of WW1 Check the sister site "Sabaton History" 20-25 mini documentaries narrated by Indy Neidell who apoears in Sabaton videos 7 pillars of wisbdom and unkillable soldier.

Brilliant reaction. Another beautiful song of Sabaton is ' No Bullets Fly' . An almost unknown story and all about humanity (and if you want a story about real female heroes (instead of all the infantile Wokewood crap today) listen to Nachthexen or Night Witches. Insanely brave girls and ladies and the bane of the nazis). I just wish they would start making inspirational movies about real heroes.

"people" No, these were wee boys. 18 year old boys, not just random people. Teenage boys. People tend to forget who is doing the fighting and the suffering and the dying: it's young boys. This also goes for today's wars: how many young boys are you willing to butcher for land or politics?

Agreed. I believe I mentioned that they were drafted at around 17 and younger. But that said, not ALL the soldiers were that young.
