Hey everyone! In this video, I talk about my recent sweater knitting experience. I used handspun yarn, neither of which were designed for the same project, as a 'pilot sweater' for my other handspun sweater project (see my 2022 Resolution video: • 8 Reasons for having a... ). It sounds silly, but I needed to know how much yarn I would need to spin for the project and what better way to get an idea than to knit a whole sweater to find out?
I used:
Colombia wool: 456 yards
Merino sparkle wool: 862 yards
Total sweater yardage: 1318 yards
Using handspun in a garment where gauge is important is going to be tricky, mainly if you aren't spinning as evenly as a machine (which is boring). By using a recipe to knit whereby my gauge creates the design, it won't matter that my handspun yarn isn't 100% 'perfect'. After showing you this project, I hope you are inspired to use your handspun for a sweater of your own!
