So, was my knitted handspun sweater a disaster or a success? - Daily Vlog - Episode 59

Hey everyone! In this video, I talk about my recent sweater knitting experience. I used handspun yarn, neither of which were designed for the same project, as a 'pilot sweater' for my other handspun sweater project (see my 2022 Resolution video: • 8 Reasons for having a... ). It sounds silly, but I needed to know how much yarn I would need to spin for the project and what better way to get an idea than to knit a whole sweater to find out?
I used:
Colombia wool: 456 yards
Merino sparkle wool: 862 yards
Total sweater yardage: 1318 yards
Using handspun in a garment where gauge is important is going to be tricky, mainly if you aren't spinning as evenly as a machine (which is boring). By using a recipe to knit whereby my gauge creates the design, it won't matter that my handspun yarn isn't 100% 'perfect'. After showing you this project, I hope you are inspired to use your handspun for a sweater of your own!

I am amazed at all the challenges you overcame not only in the sweater, but in the last 4 months life challenges. I say call the sweater "Serendipity" or "Mulligan" Hoping for a quick and uneventful recovery for your foot. If nothing else, it helps you to get your much needed rest, and make plans for other projects.

Yeah, my time recovering gave me ample time to contemplate what felt wrong in my life, and what I could do to turn things around. There's no point remaining unhappy once you have an idea of what will make you happy. 😉 I'm glad to have shared the project, least of which it generated so many more ideas than I originally considered!

The more you wash the sweater, the pink may fade. I love the sweater design though. I love the red color. Hobby lobby has a yarn called ox blood that i just love, its that color. I made a cardigan with it. Great job! Love all your interests!

Funnily enough, I have decided to wear it as my work sweater. I have to wear PPE for my job as a field archaeologist, and now that we're facing sub-zero temperatures now, I'm so glad I have this lightweight sweater to wear under my work hoodie. So, success! :)

I’m so sorry about your broken foot! That will curtail any spinning for a while…oh so sad! Your sweater is beautiful and I can’t wait to see what you do to deal with the bleed of the red into the white. I would have probably left it, but I’m sure your answer will be way more brilliant. You could always pair your sparkles under the sweater and it would distract from the dye. 😂 Sending my best wishes for a quick recovery for both your foot and the tendonitis!

Thanks Renée! I just used my left foot since I have a double treadle wheel 🙃 I think I'll test the bleed idea brought up in the chat, then try overdyeing. In the worst case, it'll be a black sweater 🤣

How about "Snow White"? ('cause in the tale, her mother pricked her finger while embroidering, and the sight of blood drops fallen on snow made her wish her daughter would have red lips and fair complexion...)

Oh, is that right? Was that from Grimms fairytales? It was just good luck that they were so similar, but maybe some hidden story there too 😉

Actually, I didn't notice as much red bleeding on the white. Could it be the camera doesn't show it? From what I see I think it looks fine. So, enjoy the sweater.

Dye the sweater. And please see a dermatologist for your right eyelid! Take care of yourself.
