I’ve owned 3 houses, 1 in south Florida and 2 new homes in Texas. I wish I could scream this from the rooftops: if you don’t have $10k-$20k AFTER the closing, don’t buy a house. In 10 years I’ve had so many things happen to our homes and things to replace that average about $10k a year. It’s definitely something to consider.

Okay, I have a confession. There was an empty house on our block and we wanted to make sure that nobody loud or obnoxious moved in. So we got together with our neighbors and every time we saw somebody that had screaming kids or big loud vehicles, we come out of our houses and start yelling at each other. It was hilarious because our neighbors across the street were from Puerto Rico and they would come out screaming in Spanish. When the prospective people drove away, we'd all high five. 😂 Anyway, we ended up having a nice friendly family move-in that had two beautiful children, coincidentally they were from New York.🎉

Needless to say I declined the offer and moved on to another job but stayed in PA. I hate FL weather, it's a no for me. I laughed during this whole video as we experienced it as sell. Be sure all the time plumbing is working as people break into the houses down there knowing the are empty and cut all the copper out... I couldn't believe that they just gave us codes to enter the house and no one was with us so they have no clue how long people are in the homes, gutting the place. 💜😘

Wavy walls, poor window seals, etc. I'd be really cautious and definitely do a thorough video walkthrough when you finally choose your new place. Love rental search horror stories! One place we went to for an open house was in the middle of evicting the previous tenants and she was crying in the garage. Also, it looked like it had a herd of elephants run through it and the relator couldn't say for sure they were going to replace the carpet. The other place had tenants place their garbage in the carpeted interior hallway for collection. To say it smelled gross was an understatement and it wasn't even hot outside. Our condo at least has thick walls, so we hardly ever hear the neighbors. Being right next to a busy street sucks though for wanting to have the windows open for air flow.

I think I may have the opposite problem. I'm living back at my parent's house, helping look after my 88 year old mum. It's a really convenient location, shops, public transport (I've never driven - my anxiety is bad enough!) everything you need in walking distance and my parents finished paying it off before I was born. The only problem is, my parents bought it when they wanted more space - so there's a lot of work just maintaining the front/back yards (why didn't people in the early 20th century use more of the land to build a bigger house?). I hate gardening, but you really need to keep on top of it. Anyway, property prices have really gone up - you'd think this was Tokyo or New York rather than Melbourne (Australia) - so after my mum passes away (hopefully not for quite some time), my brother, who also lives here, and I will most likely sell, and get an apartment (believe me, I'm happy single!). It's just that I've been so lucky with the situation, I'm sure I'm going to stuff it up one way or another 😳 Also Theresa, (if you actually read all of this crap😄), buying a property is expensive but something always needs replacing or breaks, so it's best not to buy until you're ready because chances are, it'll be even more expensive than you thought. I guess you've got to make peace with the fact that you'll never find the perfect place (unless you have ridiculous amounts of money)🤷🏻♀️ Ok, ramble is over!

Hi Theresa, never thought i would say this but house hunting stories are almost as good as the subway stories. The noise issues crack me up a bit knowing you used to live in one of the densest parts of Queens in an apartment building. Honestly, I live in suburbia now outside of Chicago, but having lived in city neighborhoods in the past and visited rural areas I’m with you in being far more freaked out by something happening in a rural isolated area (haunted or not) than in a busy noisy city (which you can usually tune out once you’re over a certain number of floors up). Also construction will find you no matter where. Moved into a perfectly fine apartment building back when my kids were small (and one not existent yet) and that’s when the building decide to replace all the concrete balconies which involved jack-hammering always at the exact moment my toddler went down for a nap. Also randomly turning off the water to the building unexpectedly, with no notice and when I had to diaper my children. Thankfully there was a place that did appreciate quiet and had running water right across the street: the public library so if I could have moved in there, I would have. Best of luck finding a new place and may the Construction gods ever be in your favor even if the traffic and parking gods are not (nothing appeases them). Commerce- it’s a good thing. 😀

I don’t know how my husband and I got so lucky but when we first moved to the town we live in now (San Angelo, TX) 13 years ago, we found a cute enough rental house that we moved in and two years later was forced out of but ended up finding a place on the same street with a new owner. Lived there for four years when they decided to sell the place. I shit you not, when I say we found another house on the same street owned by a totally different person. We lived there for seven years when we finally agreed we would stay and SA was the place we wanted to be so we purchased a home. This was 4 years ago. But we literally started at the bottom of the street and in the end we lived on the top of the hill. Each time rent got more and more and more expensive. By the time we left the last rental (7 yrs) we had paid that lady $108,000!! I still kick myself in the head about that to this day. That could have been $100G’s on this house we live in now if we would have made our mind up quicker. Sorry for the long story. But best of luck on finding the perfect new home!! Sometimes driving in neighborhoods you are interested in is when you can find that for rent signs. You deserve all the good things in life and having a home you are happy in is everything. Renting or buying. ❤

After I escaped a near kid napping in FL I don't like that state. it's always been a little odd. Makes me think of a giant sink hole. I realize the residents are separate from my odd feelings!! Love you guys and Alex's pop in to judge you was too funny!!

Sounds like you were looking at "OPEN DOOR" homes. They are usually rent houses. Talk to the neighbors and the Postman, they KNOW EVERYTHING!!!😂

All of this... is PRECISELY why husband and I are planning a move to the boonies of Virginia. Real estate is cheap (in comparison to where we are now), and I can have some peace and fuckin' QUIET. We got suckered into buying a condo in a community that is 50/50 old grannies/retirees and addicts/dealers and though the _weekly_ popo visits haven't been a thing for a while now, we're so over it. We're sick of the 'burbs. Sick of the drivers, sick of the rude ass people, sick of the noise lol

Real estate is cheap, but be sure to research Virginia taxes first! It is supposed to be "cheaper," but they tax EVERYTHING (except sales), even cars yearly. Feels like cheaper prices, but lots of other little things add up.

I don't know about buying in FL. The weather there definitely isn't getting more livable. I guess inland is better than near the coast. Plus it's so expensive to get home insurance there, it's a whole mess going on right now. Definitely research all the issues before buying, because it might be harder to sell in the future.

I used to rehab foreclosed houses in Saint Louis. At one time I owned 13 houses. I know what you are talking about. We never wanted to own apartments, if you buy houses ppl treat them like their home. BUT, some houses even in good neighborhoods are scary as hell! A24 does have the best movies!!

Oviedo, FL might be a good location for y’all! It’s a good balance between close to civilization but also peaceful rural land.

Hugs. I hate the idea of moving. I don't remember moving at a 5yo, I moved into my adult house 13yo ago, and I only ever want to move once more in my life. I don't know how rental people so it every year or something aaahh
