Honestly, I started watching this because I needed something light & dumb. I was afraid though this will start getting on my nerves at some point but I was actually quite surprised with how they subverted few tropes here and there. But what mainly made me keep watching was the family dynamic. Like those parents are GOALS. They aren't perfect but they communicate and love each other and all their kids so much. I honestly wish they adopted me, I can be the older sister walking around with anti-horny spray to keep Cole in check 😂

I would like to point out that the show gave a lot of the cole/jackie moments (and personality) to alex and have essentially destroyed all characters to have this love triangle. in the book, alex and jackie agree to just be friends because they were both using each other to run away from their feelings. It's a mutual understanding that they're not meant to be. The show compared to the book is a bit of whiplash is you ask me.

i was giggling all throughout this video. i've seen the show and read the book, not because i thought it would be good, but because this kinda thing entertains me to no end. it's messy and strange and so made for kids, the book even more than the show, but that's what makes it so funny. like, the fact that her whole family dies and (most prominently in the book) they barely touch on the subject more than that she's sad sometimes says a lot about it's target audience. but im having a good ol time reading/watching it and that's all i really want in a show like this.

I really liked Alex at first, but he turned out to be just as bad as Cole, just in different ways. They're both such bad (potential) boyfriends. Practically all the romance on this show is terrible: Warning! Spoilers ahead! Alex & Jackie: he doesn't tell her about Paige and then chalks that up to his insecurity, which leads to her having to comfort him. WTF? Then he doesn't call her when Nathan is in the hospital. Nathan, who lives in the same house as her, who is her running buddy etc. but Alex "didn't want to worry [her]". WTF? And then he tells her he loves her and immediately tells her "she doesn't have to say it back" with major emphasis on 'have' as in 'you don't have to, but you really should and why don't you?!' Again: WTF? Jackie isn't blameless, btw. When Cole tells her she's with Alex, because Alex is safe she basically confirms that by telling him that she's with Alex because he doesn't treat women the way Cole does. The bar is low, people. Cole & Jackie: I must be too old for the Cole-effect, because he just comes across as mean and not all that charming. The whole I'm-hurting-so-I-hurt-everyone-I-love shtick is not appealing to me, at all. Plus, he constantly tells Jackie that he knows her feelings better than she does and gets mad at her for flirting with him. I know we all know that she has feelings for Cole, but it's mainly Cole flirting with her and not the other way around. I'm struggling to see what she's doing wrong when she spends almost as much time with Nathan or Danny as she does with Cole. She's clearly connecting with him, but not necessarily in the romantic/sexual way Cole wants. There's very little active flirting on her part, is what I'm saying. Will & Hayley: I wanted Hayley to run for the hills for the majority of their relationship. Even moreso when they have a relationship-ending fight, break up and then get back together only to decide to immediately get married. No problems are fixed, let's get hitched: sigh. But then she turns out to have some sort of secret up her sleeve with that Morgan-text. I can't blame her, because I think Will is the worst. Alex & Kiley: There is zero indication that Alex knows she has feelings for him (she certainly hasn't told him) yet she's quite often annoyed about him treating her like just a friend. Girl, you've friendzoned yourself. Be his friend or tell him you like him. Pick one. Nathan & Skylar: Their relationship issues are more typical teen stuff, with coming on too strong, not knowing how to handle that intensity and therefore avoiding the other person, using the coming on too strong stuff in order to reject someone while actually you're just a little hesitant etc. That's all fairly innocent, but the show then weirdly depicts it as Skylar being in the wrong because apparently someone writing a song for you is always romantic. You are not allowed to feel that's too much too soon. If you don't think that's romantic then there's something wrong with you! Tara & Nikhil: Tara is super into Nikhil, upset when he's leaving, she even tells him off for not asking her to come with him, then she spends one day around Richard and clearly is very conflicted when Nikhil announces his decision not to leave for her. Ugh, whiplash. And then there's the Walter parents, who are doing a pretty good job as parents and not such a good job as partners. She's a prize-winning vet, but half the time doesn't charge people for her work. (This is such a female-coded thing: like she's so kind, but also as if her work is charity or something. It's not. She's running a business. She needs to get paid. In actual money. Even if they didn't have 11 kids to feed!) And he keeps the financial troubles from the farm from her for quite a while. I get both of their motives, but it's not good relationship-stuff. Communication is so important.

I knew it’d be another TSITP in December while we wait for the last season to come this summer and knew it was based on a book but honestly not surprised it’s wattpad. I liked the writing of the brotherly dynamic in this show more, but my god did they make these two annoying. I don’t feel like complaining right now. Except for what they did with Will. As soon as he announced his hearing loss, I was like, yes representation. But they didn’t do anything with it. He even said if you are behind him or not facing him, he won’t hear anyone. Everyone did not follow this at all, which is realistic, but there were no lines of asking people to repeat themselves or worrying about the hearing aid falling out or someone asking about it. Changing the battery or recharging it. Nothing! I am hard of hearing and bitter about not having a lot of representation. While there are characters who are deaf, there are even few, that are not elderly, that wear hearing aids on TV. This also applies to the teacher in a wheelchair. We only see him once. What? And justice for Danny. He is the best one and am shipping him with erin.
