Ever wondered what Field Target was in the air rifle world ?
Airgunology was invited to film and interview at the recent BFTA British championships held at Blackbrook Country Sports. It was educational for me and hopefully for anyone interested in knowing more about FT

The thing with these types of rifles is there are to many adjustments than can be made .. They tend to over complicate the art of shooting an air rifle when a little bit of wind will make you miss the target anyways .. The KISS method works for me (keep it simple stupid ) i never adjust scope apart from when i set up a zero and know all my holdovers from 25 yrd to 70 yrd .. Good vid again stave keep up the good work ..

@emmarowley1096 5 жыл бұрын
robin pilcher totally agree with you about keeping it simple. Like you I set my zero and then leave it alone and just know my aim points. Practice, practice and practice some more and then it becomes second nature

@@emmarowley1096 From summer to winter i will give the height a couple of clicks to re zero due to air temp but other than that i leave the scope alone ...

@@bellshooter well when the guys at my local range can outshoot me useing one of these types of rifle i might change my mind But untill then i wont bother .. ive upset a few people with my custom BSA and my little 4x16x50 MTC scope when put up against their all bells and whistle rifles (they could just be poor shooters tho ) ... golfballs at 65 yrd no problems with the beezer even did a vid of it the rifle is that good ..

I used to shoot FT back in the 80s before PCPs were on the go.Everyone used tuned HW77s then. FT then went silly with people throwing crazy amounts of money at guns and scopes which is why HFT was invented,however HFT going the same way now.
@airgunology
@airgunology 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is the problem with competitive sport and evolution in technology. It looks like FT and HFT could be real fun and help hone skills as long as you don't get into the trap of keeping up with the Jone's. But many do like this, each to their own.

Great video Steve, good to see one of my local clubs/ranges featured. A great facility, with covered and open plinking/sighting ranges in addition to the courses. No cards required.

Great information Steve about the sport today, just got back into shooting and the FT discipline now reminds of indoor 6 metre shooting. I use to do both back in the eighties and FT then was a breath of fresh air using springers like the HW77 with affordable scopes. I think I will give FT a miss today and have a go at HFT.

What these guys do is fantastic and if it gets more people into the sport all the better , a basic gun makes me work harder and hopefully a better shooter I hope 🤞 but I still couldn’t hit a barn door with a cannon 😂

@@airgunology I'm sorry Steve but that's not factually true, there are Piston Class Field Target Shooters whom compete alongside FT and they are very good to, at GP, European and Worlds level they have there own class and its gaining in popularity

Can't see why .22's dont get used , I think 55yrds with a .22 is very achievable .. especially when you look at guys like Dave Ratz who are extremely accurate with a .25 at longer distances ... personally id use a .177 .. but then again im a shit shot so it matters not what I use
@lankymk
@lankymk 5 жыл бұрын
It's not about accuracy as such but more about trajectory, .22 pellets will have a much more pronounced trajectory then the .177 (keeping within UK legal limit) as such you have to be much more accurate with the range finding with a .22. Basically it's easier with .177.
@airgunology
@airgunology 5 жыл бұрын
Yup, much easier with .177 due to the flatter trajectory as said by Darron and Lankymk. That said, there are definitely .22 FT shooters out there.
