In May of 2018 I heard this song on the radio on our way home from the hospital. My wife and a I had just been told we had a miscarriage. What an amazing song. Tears me up every time. I like to think of how Jesus was on the cross. People condemned him, mocked him, cursed him, hated him, and all he could say was, father forgive them they know not what they do. He was and is loving all who hate. How could a person be on a cross wrongfully judged, and look down on those people and have their heart fully filled with love for those people. Hannah there are actually quite a few theological mistakes and ambiguities with this song. Eg. "Every precious one / A child You died to save" - Jesus died to save his people, not a potential people or an unknown group. "A hundred billion creatures catch Your breath / Evolving in pursuit of what You said" - What does that mean? Are the whole of creation pursuing what God has said and obeying him? Or is this something to do with creation evolving in the past or now? Who knows? "You’re the One who never leaves the one behind" - is this universalism? I assume no because hillsong church don't teach that. But what does it mean? I think there can be value in making poetic songs like this. I would just say that this shouldn't be played in churches because some of the theological meaning is either ambiguous (and therefore means whatever one wants it to mean) or just inaccurate. I personally think it's fine for private listening though.

At the end of the day, I think it's important for songs played in church to have clear meaning. Songs not meant for corporate worship in church can be like this.

The church I recently joined had a worship night last Friday and the band did this song, and did it so well. I'm a single guy suffering from the feeling of being alone and this song had me broken down, my tears ended up burning my eyes (probably sweat or oil from a 10 hour work shift) but it didn't stop me from showing my love to this God who is the single most amazing artist any person can know.
