I always found Razors greatest strength is how he is able to get the best out of every player in his squad especially the young and inexperienced players and also getting all the players to buy into his vision. I saw over and over again in the crusaders whenever a big name player got injured and some new young player who had barely played any Super Rugby came in start for the crusaders they would seamlessly slot in and play like they had playing Super Rugby for years. Watch out world because Razor doesn’t need all his big name players out there to win games. He creates champion teams rather than a team of individual champions.

True! Also it's not just about whether the All Blacks will shine under him, but how his innovative style, showcased in seven consecutive historic wins with the Crusaders, will make the All Blacks different and stand out from the rest. It's going to be exciting. Yeah, so the real thing to me is what their first game against England will be like, given that England has already played a few games while the All Blacks have not. Typically, the All Blacks' first match has always been against a lower-ranked team just to help the players get used to each other. But this weekend will be very interesting.

Try "respect" instead of "fear". ABs have always been respected in the main. Teams relish the challenge. If they play for their country instead of for " the jersey"- that will serve them best. Thanks for the flattery, but ABs like the Boks the current French, Irish and English teams need forward dominance for success. I blame Hansen and Fosters opting for lighter mobile forwards for up-tempo rugby. But Razor and Ryan have signalled they want size and power targeting the contact either side of the ball. This excites me especially the two 145kg props of Tosi and Williams, and the Savea clone Sititi who is at 115kg instead of Savea's 100kg. Size and power upfront is the key for any team. Thanks Razor and Ryan for recognising this.

Physicality and brutality in the contact area is where we’ve been lacking in the last few years Good to see some big boys coming through - there’s one more big prop, Saula Mau (24yrs), for the Highlanders - also 6’5 145kgs who I think Jason will eventually call up in the next couple years

@@camwells9726 2017 Lions, Hansen and Foster should have known that up-tempo is only achieved by forward dominance. While the rest of the world based their game on upsized power forwards, what did Hansen and Foster do? They Followed blindly their own doctrine. Credit to the Boks they are true to their DNA, power and size. It's not until 2024 the ABs have caught up and realised it's about power and size to win the contact either side of the ball 🤦 FFSs. All Hansen and Foster needed to do was look at our DNA, for 120 years ABs were built on Power forwards.

One thing you haven't touched on and a bit unfair to Ian Foster I think is the 2015 All Blacks was the most dominant team since the invincibles almost one hundred years ago. When the 2015 World Cup was over, more than half that team retired or went overseas and one year after that almost everyone else. How do you create another team out of that and still keep the high standard they set for the next team, even with Steve Hanson in charge up to the 2019 World Cup it couldn't be done. In my opinion, every other international team would have gone through utter turmoil with many loses before they found their feet again. It's taken the All Blacks almost ten years to find this new skin after shedding the old one and since that time everyone else has made significant gains to challenge the All Blacks consistently. So I wouldn't blame Ian Foster for the lack of performance, he's done a great job, World Cup Final 2023(Not bad I think) and set another stepping stone for Scott Robertson to spring up from.

@@elscruffomcscruffy8371 I think we can handle losing. Even though we really don't like it, but I think we're more realistic now. Most of the major nations have caught up. Will be interesting to see in the coming years how Scott Roberson shapes this team to his own style of play. As for the same pressure and criticism, I don't think that will change any time soon. If we lose under Scott Robertson, it will be very interesting how the public reacts. Many people slammed Ian Foster in an appalling way, I dear say they will be silent if Scott Robertson starts losing games. But I do hold high hopes for this team though.

The only thing stopping me betting on a clean sweep of NZ this year by the boks is that Razor is untested in Test rugby Either he can't make the step up from club level or he's gonna be locking horns with Rassie as the greatest coach in the modern game
@randomlyfactual1943
@randomlyfactual1943 4 күн бұрын
Yeah there are some things in his favour and a few of them not. You hit the nail on the head with him being untested in Test rugby. However, so was Rassie and Jacques and they didn't do too badly 😅 In his favour though, I don't think there is another coach on this planet that can get as much out of a backline. Scott Robertson isn't good, he isn't great, he is bloody EPIC at it. To counter that though, we must also keep in mind that Razor has to build a team and that can take time. Expecting too much can be really burdensome. Whatever the outcome, I'm here for it. As a South African, there are very few people in the rugby world I am more excited to see coach (and terrified of playing against) than him and he is widely respected here. Can his flair handle our Bomb squad? Can our tactical kicking trump their blistering handling? Will our forward game or their backline game prevail? I have no clue, but I am stoked to find out.

They lost 57-0 to NZ and 57-14 at home. Lost 9 out of 13 tests. Even lost to Italy Springboks were becoming minnows. Rassie took them in his first season to beating the All Blacks in New Zealand. Won the 2019 RC. Then came COVID and say what you will, no team in rugby was hit harder than South Africa - we literally did not even get to play in the Ruby Championship. You talk about this "Multi-Position" rugby Razor has coached previously and most likely will apply to the ABs. What do you think of the omission of Hoskins Sotutu? He's probably, from a skill set POV not positionally (apart from Ardie I suppose) the most multi functional forward that NZ has. I think I understand the reasons defensively for not calling him up. But I would have imagined a coach as creative as Razor would have loved to work with him. Any thoughts?

For a very long time here in New Zealand, Mounga was seen as a phenomenal, maybe best fly half in super rugby, but then he played for the all blacks he was never nearly that good. This video has shown to me actually why that was the case for so long. Great job Squidge!

As a NZ'er i cant wait to see the dominance that Jason Ryan can cook up with such a massive forward pack. The likes of Tosi, Williams, De Groot, and Taukei'aho should give us parity with some of the larger South African packs. But our loose trio needs the beef too.

I think Razor is a great coach, but England have a great opportunity on this tour, especially the 1st test. Can't wait

I have always said he should be the NZ coach, now I wonder if he is one of those brilliant coaches that should stick to club rugby? But I just can’t see that being the case, hes just so damn good at winning.

Obviously test rugby and club rugby are not the same. Both are demanding, but in different ways. A club rugby coach has a lot of game time, but has to deal with a lot of fatigue and injuries. A national coach has the advantage of picking the freshest and fittest guys but they get a lot less game time, meaning a lot less time to find their best setup. There is some precedent here too and it isn't very rosy: Robbie Deans is obviously another coach who was ridiculously effective at the Crusaders. When he went over to coach Australia, we all were licking our lips to see how he would do. And...it wasn't all that great. I mean, not disastrous, but definitely not what you were expecting from a guy who dominated Super Rugby the way he did. With just a 2011 Tri Nations title and a Bronze medal in the World Cup to show for his five years as head coach of the Wallabies, it does feel a bit underwhelming. Did we expect too much of him? Were the rigours of test rugby too much for him? Or was the timing of him taking over the reigns simply off, considering they were going through a rebuilding phase? Hard to tell.

The "private school" culture mentality taken abit far. 😢 The "tale wagging the dog". Deans didn't have to deal with in NZ.

@@Jo3M This is true. I mean this was a long time ago, but I still remember Robbie Deans and Graham Henry having a rather heated rivalry. Was the dislike towards Dean's because of Henry, or was there something deeper at work? My guess is that in NZ, the clubs are supposed to serve the All Blacks first, even at the cost of the clubs themselves. And because Deans was running a huge franchise, maybe he didn't like it as much and probably had more than a couple butting of the heads with NZ rugby head honchos. You are right about Razor, he certainly does seem more appreciated by the NZ coaches and players. One thing is key though; his success as an All Black coach will largely be down to his relationship with the franchise bosses and if he can get them to buy into his vision. *Edited because autocorrect inserts apostrophes at will*

It will be interesting to see if he can get the same buy-in from players from franchises other than the Crusaders. This is perhaps the answer to the burning question (certainly here in NZ) as to why Sotutu hasn't made the squad. It will also be interesting to see what changes, if any, other countries make to counter the threat, if the ABs are playing like the Crusaders on steroids.

While the Scott Robertson AB's was something every crusaders fan has been braying for since 2019, I think the real dark horse of this world cup cycle will be the wallabies. The depth in the squad this year is massive especially the front row With 2 145kg props coming through, probably 6-7 world class props to choose from now. 3 world class locks. a ridiculously stacked backrow easily 8 players who could slot in. 9 will be strong when the young superstar Roigard returns Dmack at 10, world class centers, insanely stacked depth in the outside backs It's looking stronger than ever even with the big losses of aaron smith, mounga etc

NZ have a very talented squad but 3 world class locks? Only one lock has actually proven himself at test level and even Barrett would barely crack the top 5 in the world in his position. The other 2 locks are still very green and are an enormous step down from Whitelock and Retallick. IMO I think lock is a real potential weakness. I also don't agree that the backrow is that stacked. Again there are only a couple there who have actually played consistently at test level. Lots of talent for sure but still with a lot to prove. England games will be a good test as they are better stocked at lock and loose forward with more players with proven quality IMO so can make a better assessment after those games. Just very wary of people getting too excited about a relatively inexperienced squad, even though it has a lot of potential, and then being disappointed if things don't go smoothly the first few games.
