I agree with not soaking the bark before (re)potting. I don't have the time or patience anyway. I always water after repotting. I don't have any scientific evidence, but I believe it reduces the stress.

Hi Danni ......I just bought 2 new orchids LAST night from our local grocery store and after watching another orchid video titled """do this immediately after buying an orchid"" .....the medium it was in was slightly starting to smell and was very damp......and SOME roots were going BUT the vast majority of the roots were AMAZING but definitely needed a new home ....I have NEVER repotted an orchid immediately after buying BUT as this lady said most if the time within 1-2 weeks after buying ORCHIDS start losing their flowers and going FASTER then you thought......Thankfully I had everything on hand (( better pots then ones I had mistakenly bought )) the ones I have are 5 inches across and maybe 3 inches or less high clear plastic with ventilation holes on EVERY side and the roots, flowers, leaves , crown looks EXTREMELY healthy Plus LOADS of flowers still to open.....I gave them a BIT of fertizler in the new medium NOT on top but where it would be damp and (( NOT much )) and gave it a good enough watering to clear out the dust from the New medium. Hoping I can keep these ones blooming for awhile yet !!! And the OLD medium it was in was VERY tight around the root system I had to dig a bit to get it FREE and there definitely was a smell and I think slight mold was starting ....but I rinsed it off under slight warm water to NOT shock it and then used water & hydrogen peroxide (( as you mentioned ))) and sprayed all the roots and the root crown before repotting :)) Hoping I am on the right track .....I tried hard following your steps in your vids on repotting ........plus using some cinnamon were necessary.

🙋🏽♀️ I did all your tips since May. I kept an eye on the roots after repotting. I had to cut old roots and I was confident about it 😊 thanks to you! The new roots are growing better now 🥰

Thanks for the tip on wet orchid medium after 1 week...I had an Oncidium that was wet after two weeks, plus I noticed very little root growth....pulled it out of the pot and it was planted in all sphagnum moss......divided the plant and repotted.....Thanks Island Girl...

I just re-potted a Phalaenopsis. I have what would probably be considered cheaper medium, so I sifted the very fine stuff out of the medium first. Should I have left it in? (There was quite a bit as I am at the bottom of the bag, and it was quite fine.) I sprayed the roots with 3% peroxide just in case, then took her from a 2" pot and went to a clear ventilated 4" pot, and then placed that into a larger ceramic ventilated pot. So far she is looking just fine!

My Mom had stopped caring for her Phaleonopsis orchids, about 10 of them thst are all about 6 years old. Much rot and dirty pots in standing water. I scrubbed all pots, peroxided the roots, wiped the leaves with alcohol wipes. I THEN discovered your channel and wish I had put them in clear pots with holes THEN back in her decorative pots. It’s been a month, they all look ok. Can I repot at this point or do I have to wait a year?

Yay! My phals are repotted and, after a month, the roots are happy and growing...right out the holes in the pot and strangling themselves! Since I just repotted, I've been trying to cut the hole a little bigger. If I can, I try to tuck the baby root back in, but many times - they just choked themselves and break. Suggestions? Different pot ? bigger bark with bigger holes slits in the pot. I'm just imagining trying to repot them in the future and having to cut roots with more girth to get them out of the pot. Yikes!

Tip #5 made such a huge difference in my orchids’ health, especially oncidiums! (You had mentioned it in a previous tutorial but I don’t remember which one.) I’ve watched all of the tutorials, some of them multiple times, and I keep learning more each time.

Hi Danny! Do you recommend fertilizing with the first watering, after repotting, or is it better to wait a little bit? Let's say one doesn't use any slow release fertilizer and the medium doesn't have any provided nutrients? Thank you 😊

I don't water after repotting, tried it twice. (Phal. Schilleriana and a cattleya hybrid.) There is allways some damage after repotting. Most of the roots rotted in a few days. On the other hand they don't mind getting dry for some days.

You should try adding some rootex or any other auxin (the cheaper the better) when you are repoting, it works amazing with every orchid genre with great results. My Phalaenopsis are super healthy even better than brand new plants. The bag of rootex cost aroun 4 dollars but there is enoguh for over 1000 orchis you shoul try it. The best of this is that it works for propagation of monopodial orchis y have a lot of Phalaenopsis by just cuting them in half and adding rootex in the wounds. (sorry for the shitty english and great videos btw)

I have a phalaenopsis that was in very old medium and lost most of its roots to root rot. It's now recovering in an ICU set up and repotted like you've shown on your channel. It now seems to be putting out a new flower spike. Should I cut that spike since it should be recovering and growing roots instead?

I have mixed experiences with repotting blooming orchids. Some of them kept blooming for months, but quite a few lost all their flowers within a week. I wonder if I should keep some root covering sphagnum moss intact when repotting?

So I just reported my orchid, from your tips and amazing videos by the way! But before I repotted it I lost 3 leaves, why I don’t know, I wish I could show you a picture of mine and tell me what you think. The 3 leaves I have left look healthy and beautiful I assume lol, just wish I could show you a picture. Anyway thank you so much for all your help. Now gonna watch this video and hopefully learn more. ❤❤❤❤

@@sissie44 they were at the base/bottom, mine is two years old so they just might have been old leaves?? They turned yellow and leathery and then I waited for a while and cut them off and rubbed the edges with cinnamon, waited a few days, then pulled the husk off with tweezer. because mssorchidgirl said if you leave them they become really tough and hard for new roots to come through…

They also say that depending on the humidity it’s typically 1 leaf per 15% humid? I’m not an expert by any means but it’s fall turning to winter now and like I stated it is two years old, so I don’t know if it dropped leaves because of the drop in the ambient humidity or because they were old… hope I helped a tiny bit. I’m still learning myself. 😁

@@sissie44 it’s still holding in there so far, still got 3 healthy leaves, still hoping and praying. I’m sorry to hear about yours, but just because it loses all its leaves doesn’t mean it’s dead, as long as the crown is still healthy.

I like to water from above avoiding hitting the plant. If water gets trapped in the little leaf crevices, I use a piece of tissue to soak up as much water from the crevice as possible. To avoid crown rot
