Muzzle training is so underrated. You never know when you need to be able to do this quickly. It should be as important as crate training.

Muzzles are preventative, though. I'm not sure when you'd need to put one on "quickly." If the dog needs it, it should already be on

I think muzzles can be incredibly useful (and they shouldn’t be as stigmatized as they are), but if the dog isn’t a bite risk why do you need one?

@@blueflare3848 no dog is zero bite risk. e.g. your dog is injured/ill and a vet (a stranger) is doing an investigation and touches somewhere tender. Good practice for every dog to be comfortable with a muzzle, or e.g. a vet might refuse to help, especially a large powerful dog, even if the owner insists they're the most gentle furbaby.

Basket muzzles are the best, they allow panting and drinking water. I've seen training videos which smear peanut butter on the muzzle. I haven't done this myself, and have had no problems.

My elder hates the muzzle and actively tries to remove it while it's on, BUT he doesn't fight me when i put it on him. He just sits there and pouts, grumbles a little bit but there is no struggling.

Brilliant suggestion. I screwed up with muzzle on my last dog. Took a _lot_ of time to rectify. Just going to a different type would have been a much easier fix for all concerned.

That's what we did with crate training. Messed up when our GS was a pup and he hated his soft crate. Now he just walks right into his second one when he knows we have to leave.

I trained my dog to the muzzle in just 3 days He understood that it's nothing scary and he has no issue with me putting it on I used a tip from one of your other shorts and trained him with only that knowlege... even someone who only knows basic dog training can do it if they do it correctly and with patience

the 1 issue i have with my husky/GSD...... she has a VERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! high prey drive . she was a rez dog.... so its in her genetics/survival instinct to want to take down a deer (she HATES!!! deer) that means she didnt starve for a few days on the rez . she loves cats....wants to play with them but small dogs......rabbits.....deer...... . . i had mini schnauzers growing up this is my first "big dog" . right now.... i have raised the fence so she cant jump out, and keep her leashed when out on walks . but she has biten the dash of my car because a deer was next to us at a stop sign (lots of traffic, had to wait 45 seconds or so) . . i just see the deer first.... grab her neck.... and hold her so she cant try to bust out my windows.... . no idea how to train around that.... and she is 2.5 years old now

My mastiff has muzzle rage...he will quite happily wear his muzzle in the house to get nails clipped ....stop biting and chewing at miner injuries etc ...but...try to go out a walk in the street or park he gets so frustrated and tries rubbing it of my legs ...ouch...tbe ground... wont walk properly ..muzzles punches me esp.in the crotch ouch ouch! He aslo breaks lead and runs like a crazy mutha trying to start a fight with dogs even through fences .is this a common prob...i spent over 3months tryin to make him love tbe damn thing ..using a baskerville ultra. Pls help he doest care wot u try n feed him through it yr gonna get muzzle punched.. Have tried a coulpe of muzzles but with the same results....?

Feed the puppy on a schedule. It makes it easier to know when it will need to use the bathroom. After every meal, drink of water, and nap wait about 10-15 minutes and take your puppy outside. If the puppy looks restless or is sniffing along the ground, take it outside. You need to keep a close eye on the puppy at all times. If the puppy does have an accident, do NOT punish it. Take it outside, make sure it’s done, then bring it back in and clean up the mess. When the puppy does go to the bathroom outside, praise it heavily. Talk in an excited voice, give it physical praise, and above all, make sure you give it a high value reward.

If it's an association thing, then I bet a different prong collar would work. I'm not sure your dog would be able to recognize a new prong collar by looking at it, if it smells different and looks different it is different. Maybe you can trade with someone?

start usin treats when putting the prong collar for a while put the treat inside the collar so your dog goes in and heavily reward when its on without a problem

Can help anxious dogs going to the vet, help dogs who are vacuums eating litterally everything on the ground during a walk, can be a safety for two dogs meeting your unsure of how it will go, plus many safety reasons a well trained dog may need to wear one at some point 😊

​@@TheDragonSeerputting a muzzle on a dog is like de clawing a cat. You've taken away their self defense. If you take your dog in public you should have control of your animal at all times. Socializing is so important. Like I said, if you can't control your dog, and your dog is aggressive you shouldn't walk in public. I've spent my entire 55 years with dogs and never had to use a muzzle. My dogs now are a Cane Corso and a German Shepherd.

@@seanlynthicum5881 A muzzle is a tool that is only used temporarily. No different than a leash. Declawing your cat is a surgical procedure that permanently removes the cat’s claws. You can not be this idiotic. Muzzles are not painful for the dog and like the other comment said, should allow for the dog to open its mouth enough so it can drink and eat treats. While yes, if you have an aggressive dog you should try to walk it in more secluded areas, not everyone has that option depending on where they live.
