Good no nonsense,informative video, learned a few tips here. The safety tip regarding the chaps is a good one, was very fortunate a number of years back when I was clearing some small trees, did not apply the break ( mistake 1) was wearing coveralls not chaps (mistake 2). I tripped on a root stumbled and the moving chain touched my coverall pant leg, instantly I saw red on the coveralls, thought it was blood but turned out the be bar oil. I pulled off the coveralls but not a scratch, luck of the Irish. Put the fear of gawd in me , stopped sawing for the day and always use the recommended safety gear from that day on. Don’t push your luck-wear the gear. Had my MS251 C since 2017 it’s been great, learned a few fuel tips here that should keep it going for years to come ☘️🇨🇦✌️

I have had mine for well over a year and it has had some serious use in this time and other than a new clutch (my fault), it has worked flawlessly. I really love how easy it is to start from cold and even easier from warm. The only gripe I have is that I would like the chain tension thumbwheel to be a little bigger, other than that it does the job. Good video, many thanks.

What a great video. It's about time. I am currently having some issues with my saw and have watched about a dozen videos with people "repairing" the saw. Yours is the first video I have seen with the proper PPE. It amazes me the amount of people that operate saws in shorts, flip flops, and no head gear. I have several patient's that are loggers and will tell you about professionals that have been bit by a chainsaw. Along with people cutting above their head which is crazy. Thanks for the great demonstration of chainsaw handling.

Great video lots of good info and tips here. That pre mixed gas is crazy expensive and only makes sense if you use your equipment very occasionally. For winter storage I would just dump the pump gas out and then run the machine dry personally. Or you could run a small amount of that expensive pre mix stuff to make sure the carb is flushed. Thank god these machines will run on normal E10 gas+oil and and dont require that million dollar a gallon stuff.

I've heard that just setting the saw down and letting it idle to long with the brake engaged can burn these up? Ironically, my cousin said he made that mistake with a 251 and it was a $178 repair. Is that possible?
@Carlsmower
@Carlsmower 3 жыл бұрын
Should not be possible, only if the idle is too high or there is a clutch problem (IE broken clutch spring) My experience has always been brake on and juicing it hard.

@@Carlsmower thank you for the reply. I'm beginning to think he is so green, that he actually had the break on, got it to turn over at full choke, set it to half choke, got it started and set it down without pulling the trigger once and kicking it out of half choke... which of course is high idle.

Do you recommend to leave the saw idling after startup so it can heat up a little? I have heard once that's possible that the cilinder can "weld" itself to the cilinder housing if starting to early same as finishing the job. Don't shut the saw off directly after cutting wood but let it idle for a few minutes. ....... I do this to my chainsaw, but most often not my backpack blower for whatever reason. Luckily the rest of my tools are battery powered already though.

Carl, Great video! To bad a lot of dealers don't take the time with new owners. I learned more from watching your short video. This may be a dumb question, but where do I locate the serial number of my new MS 251 C? Also how the heck do you register a new one for it's warranty. I cant learn much from the manual, even if it is in several languages. Thank you.
@Carlsmower
@Carlsmower 2 жыл бұрын
Your selling dealer should register it for you. The serial is stamped in the case near the top of the bar cover (by the muffler) and there also should be a sticker on the front of the unit. Thanks for the positive feedback. My hope is that other dealers can utilize my videos to assist them in taking gear care of their customers.

Had one blow up in my hand today. Of course its out of warrantee. I was using ethanol 91 octane the same fuel Ive used in my MS250 for 15 years. I had to finish up work with that one today. A friend had a 251 blow up too which was still under warrantee but Stihl wouldnt cover it. Had a number of issues with it like a cheaper little ignition switch and the top handle bar being so close to the emergency stop guard that when I had my gloves on it regularly stopped the blade. The shock isolation is just too loose which allows the handle to get too close to the brake guard. It never ran right since I got it. It took a long time to warm up and keep running once I turned the high idle off. Even then it never had the power of the old 250. Dealer blamed "bad gas" but I used the same gas on both saws. Dont know if I can ever buy another Stihl again.
@Carlsmower
@Carlsmower 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a challenge and I empathize. We sell a pretty high number have not had many “blow up”. Problems have traditionally been carb/fuel related and brake on burning housing. They do still make the MS250 if that works best for you.
@berniestarzewski5482
@berniestarzewski5482 3 жыл бұрын
@@Carlsmower I will have to look into the 250, thqnks. My general impression of the new series is that they have been cheaped down for the consumer market. The only thing I liked about it was the poly tank. It never ran right from the first day usually stalling out at idle until it got warm enough. The dealer said it was bad gas but then all the gas I ever mixed for it must have been bad but worked just fine in the 250. The shock mounting was also too soft as the handle would move too close to the brake guard and when I had gloves on it would trip which usually happened under maxim load when I was cutting something big so maybe that played a role. Certainly wouldnt buy another one of that model!

I've been unable to start my saw this season and had someone tell me it might be the sparkplug. Searching for a video on how to address that brought me to this video which is AWESOME for a newer chainsaw guy. Thank you! Q: The MotoMix is pretty expensive when compared to just buying a gallon of gas and mixing it myself. Does it make that much of a difference? Q: Is leaving gas in the machine over the winter going to damage the saw. I did that, so I'm hoping it didn't damage it and changing out the filter and spark plug does the trick.
@Carlsmower
@Carlsmower 3 жыл бұрын
For long term storage Moto Mix is way better, gasoline over 3 months can cause damage. If you are using the machine sporadically it may be worth using Moto Mix. It does start easier and run better. How much fuel do you use annually.
