A friend told me about this service one morning. I signed up during lunch time, and I kid you not, in LESS THAN AN HOUR my driveway was filled with tan gold - locally owned, sustainable, gluten free mulch. Chip Drop setting appropriate expectations was KEY to a great experience.

I just got my first chip drop. First request was 2017 and nothing. This time we really needed it and I signed up, 3 days later a chip drop. very clean and smells wonderful. Big logs like I said i'll accept. These people do wonderful things so please don't be picky. If you see some candy wrappers, just pick it up and go with it. ITS FREE!

I'm a new chipdrop participant. Got to say, it's all about the expectations. They did an excellent job preparing me for what I was to get. It's not the fancy pretty stuff others in my neighborhood may be using, but it is free and it helps arborists. My experience was very positive. I got the drop, it was where I asked it to be, it was when they told me it would be (I got a text the day before), and everybody was very chill about the whole thing. I'd like to hear what the Chipdrop people are thinking about for their next act, cause this one was well conceived and executed. Maybe the next one will be, too! BTW, I'm in the northern suburbs of New York City.

Got a huge load. Covered my beds, raised beds, etc. It stuck around for about a year. (There are still 2 piles I moved to the side of my drive.) My father-in-law and I were moving the excess to those 2 piles the day before my wedding. We were getting married on our property and wife and I didn’t think the pile was what we wanted our guests to see when the drove up. Having said that, the mulch has suppressed weeds, held in moisture, and decomposed adding nutrients to my beds and compost pile. Will get another load (but not for a while)!

This is a great service, but please note that they only have arborists in major metro areas. If you live outside a major metro area, you could call the arborists in your area. I just started calling around, and the largest arborist just told me he'd drop some chips off at our property.

7:16 pm on Wednesday September the 27 2023. I watched the video and I think that there are some ungrateful people in that video. It is free wood chips that we our selves have decided to fill out the sign up sheet all on our own. No one has called any one of those people and harried any body to make them take a truck load of free chips. I can't wait to get my truck load for my yard and i am a very patient woman and very grateful for a company that will do something so nice. Keep up the good work that yall are doing . Was on the list for about a year without a drop but I was picky. Only wanted logs but no conifers. Finally got a drop of logs that will be enough firewood to last me a whole heating season. They are large, I mean large. 50" diameter down to 24" diameter but I have the equipment to work with that. If I get one drop a year, I'll be a happy guy. BTW, I pay the $40 option on the sign up list. Not sure if it helped or not.

As to logs - they're also very precious, you can make a lot of biochar for free. In fact if I was the Chip Drop company I'd set up my own receiving addresses and haul the most chips to create biochar and sell it or is use it for myself.

You can also use your phone's location to pinpoint the gps coordinates (if you're on mobile) if you have a big property and want to specify the location that way.

Just an FYI - They don't actually have a map that shows you if there have been drops in your area and how long people have waited as depicted at 2:16 in the video. You can put your zip code in and it will tell you there are people in your area who have gotten drops, but it's not like the map in the video and there's no info about how long it took for people to get their drops.

That's true, the map in the video was previously replaced by the ChipDrop Network. However, in the near future we'll be taking down the ChipDrop Network, in place of the new Freeya app, and we'll be adding back the map that shows recent drops in your area plus wait times. Lots of folks seem to like that map showing recent drops, and it's been a frequent request by folks that we add it back.

That's a great question! Currently you can only have 1 request at a time, and this is primarily because of security concerns. However, if you do have 2 or more locations where you need wood chips, you can create separate accounts using a different email address. Alternatively, you could place requests one at a time, but that will take much longer.

Why would one residence wait 1,596 days for delivery but a residence not far away waited a range of like 15 days to 180 days for delivery? Is that high number an error or unusual case? Would i need to worry about getting japanese knotweed from using chip drop? It seems to be everywhere around here.

Good questions! A lot of factors can go into someone waiting a long time for a delivery. These could include the site not being suitable for a delivery for some reason, or the request being too specific and not adhering to our Terms of Service. For example, if the person is indicating that they 'only want cedar chips'. It's also possible that there are only a handful of companies delivering in your area, and maybe they've had a bad experience with that specific site. Things you can do to improve your chances of getting a drop sooner are indicating that you're willing to accept some logs, offering to pay for the delivery, including photos of your drop site, and also a backup option as a fallback in case your preferred location doesn't work. As for knotweed, we don't have any specific policy on plant species that can't be include in the mix with ChipDrop. That said, Knotweed ground cover is not typically something the tree companies work with, that is something that landscapers tend to handle more, and they don't usually chip their green waste. Also, if your area has specific rules controlling knotweed mitigation, or any other invasive species, then companies would still be required to adhere to those rules. You might check with your urban forestry department or state department of agriculture to see if there are any quarantines in place. I hope that helps!

What if I would like the chips dropped exactly where my truck is normally parked? Do the drivers knock on the door first and give me 2 minutes to move my truck so I'm not blocked in? (I can't receive on my street - it's too narrow)

Most crews definitely knock, but so often no one is home or answers the door, so the crew has to find a different location if a secondary drop site is not listed. Including a secondary drop site is always the best option if you really want chips.

We received basically garbage from our local chip dropper. It was more than half large fronds. Not ground or shredded in any way. Chip Drop has been I responsive. Now we have a massive amount of trash we can’t use. And no reply.

Check with your city and your neighbor. Most cities will allow construction and landscaping materials to be delivered, as it's a common use case. Maybe your neighbor needs some too!

We only allow paid delivery in the US, and only in certain metro areas. If you're not seeing the option when you place a request then you are likely outside of our areas where we allow payment.

We have an extra lot where ideally I'd like the chips dropped, our driveway isn't in the best shape. Will the trucks be able to mount a curb and drive into the lot to dump? There are power lines at the road but there should be plenty of room under them. We aren't worried about tire ruts.(There's already plenty)

This sounds like a difficult place for a truck to access. I would make sure to include a secondary drop location in your request, that way the crew has a backup option if the preferred spot doesn't work.

@@getchipdrop yeah I know that it isn't ideal, my issues are that our driveway is crumbling concrete, if they did manage to dump there our sewer/water access is directly next to the driveway . Road in front is narrow, other road has quite a bit of traffic and the chips couldn't be dumped there. We just had a hurricane, the line trucks went under the lines without issue (that's why the pre existing ruts are there! Thank you linemen!! Not snark, I'm genuinely grateful) I'll include photos when I place my order and maybe the arborists can see? Fingers crossed!

HELP!!! Logs (SEVERAL feet long dropped despite my saying “NO logs”). I cannot lift them and mulch (mostly long twigs) are decomposing/attracting flies and no end in sight. (Note sent multiple emails to Chip Drop support (with lots of photos) + tried to contact arborist who dumped the long logs FOR DAYS & no reply yet. I HOPE they just bring a chipper by soon and turn it to mulch!!! If not, I have a hefty complaint that I don’t want to do…

I got my 2nd drop in June 2022. On the website, I agreed to pay a fee of $80, simply because I was hoping it would speed up my delivery. Much to my surprise, it came in just 6 days. Delivery was from a tree service about 15 miles from my house. It's now 2 months later and I just placed another order. chipdropismyhero
