Apparently, the median lifespan was in the high 30s or low 40s, but remember that that is impacted by the exceedingly high infant mortality rate. This means some folks did live to a fairly ripe old age, although most didn't.

Exactly. The ocean depth averages are 12,000 ft , with trenches deeper then 30,000 feet. In addition to all the water now existing in all the oceans, ocean volume would need to (approximately) double to get the water level high enough to rise 30,000 feet. That's enough water to make the oceans rise straight up 30, 000 feet. Additional water would be needed to cover all land mass up to 30,000 feet. Everest is 29,032 ft. So way more then double all current water on earth's surface .... is now in "the Pacific Ocean is really huge, it's huge"

That's why mysticism isn't a valid way of knowing. If you're willing to accept the premise the miracles and an omnipotent sky mind you can (as my favorite atheist Ay Rand used to say) pay it dueces wild. If sky mind can wink a Neptune 's worth of rain into the air ex nihilo why can't he/she/it send the evaporate back into whatever Lovecraftian space between the dimensions? Likewise how can someone who's been paralyzed from birth suddenly get up a d walk? Baby's have to learn. But hey, if you can fix the nerves why not throw in the software? It's not true that if God does not exist all things are permitted. That only happens when God exists who can do everthing.

Scientists have calculated that if all water on Earth were liquified (polar ice caps melted, mountain snow and ice melted, Greenland Ice melted, all atmospheric clouds and water vapor condensed, all lakes and rivers emptied, etc.), the global sea level would rise by about 250 feet. Not exactly a global flood. Sure, all coastal cities would be destroyed. But at 300’ elevation, good old Fresno would almost become oceanfront property!

The amazing trick with the Bible is that it intentionally casts a wide net of "predictions" with its ambiguity. So you can have two events that are polar opposites and still be consistent with the Bible. For instance, if all the world's population becomes Christian, that is consistent with the Bible. If all the world rejects Christianity, that is also consistent with the Bible. Firmament, or no firmament, the Bible is consistent with both models. The discontinued Law of Moses, or the persisting Law of Moses. Evolution or no evolution. A "generation" can span any amount of time. The Bible allows for both literal and metaphorical predictions to be equally valid.

It very certainly did _not_ happen before Noah's flood that people lived well beyond 120 years. The field of paleopathology has researched this and the _median_ lifespan of a human 30,000 to 9000 years BC was around 30 to 35 years. It actually dropped after this period by a couple of years and did not start to rise until about 2000 BC. Median lifespan then rose very slowly to around 40 years in the early Christian period.

The Pacific ocean is huge.... uh huh, and? A global flood would have to add water on top of the Pacific ocean. It doesn't matter how large or deep the Pacific is, it would need to be filled with water before the land was flooded. It doesn't explain where all that water went because it was already full of water in order for the flood of the land to happen at all.

And to flood the pacific to 29,000ft above sea level in order to raise the oceans to cover all land would require a volume of water twice that of the pacific just to cover the area of the pacific! (Average depth of the pacific is 14,000ft)

@@Captain101-x1o It would take 1.1 billion cubic miles of water to flood the entire planet. The Pacific contains about 170 million cubic miles of water. He is projecting what we know into the scripture. Post hoc rationalism. If what he claims was true then people should have interpreted those things to mean the same thing before science discovered it. In Genesis 7:19 - 20, water covered the entire land and even the highest mountain peak was 15 cubits under the water. So, this means when the flood occurred, Noah was struck by the scientific urge to know how deep the water was and he and his family frantically rowed the ark with full of animals to the Himalayas (and with incredible accuracy. I have to point out that using traditional navigation method, it is normal to have tens, if not hundreds of miles of margin of error, and in ancient times, they had none of these methods and equipment), measured the depth (without grounding the ark), then rowed back to the original place within 40days.

If the story of Noah is true, it proves that God is a sadistic, malevolent, evil being. He could have just made the people cease to be; he could have sent his angel of death (as in Egypt) and have everyone die in their sleep; but no, he thought it would be best to drown everyone -- women, children, babies, pregnant women: everyone. All the animals were just collateral damage. Sadistic, nasty, and definitely someone not worthy of worship.
